Thermopolae Class Battleship; Updated 10-20-08

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

honestly i liked the previous ships design better.

this particular one has a smoothly flowing surface until it hits the engines, which jut out in an odd way, perhaps if you made the engines curve as well, like the hull does, it would look better?

I don't like the colour scheme. Too drab and no colour stands out, use less grey and use a colour that stands out from the gray more for your outlines.

well, sort of, i meant like working with the curve, so it would seem the hull was streamlined completely, but would break where the engines were...hmm hard to explain what i mean...

so just widen them out, or push them in? or redo them? I need to keep the exhaust port for the reactor

Now that's an improvement.
I've seen better ships, but at least it's not bad anymore. Good job, I say.
I kinda like the engines, the connection feels good. The colour scheme isn't exactly pretty, but it's very much passable, and the overal hull shape is quite nice indeed.

so, I've heard some criticism that my ablatives are 'ugly', and 'boring'

I agree completely. so, I've come up with a new style of ablatives, for use on the Thermopylae. basically it's a bunch of 9's spaced close together to provide great damage protection, with section 25's over top, with gradients. here is a cut away view of the armor on the Thermopylae currently. thoughts?

note the nice black parts, and the mass of ablatives under it.

It would be good and interesting if, say, you let the section 9's show though on some parts of the ship. It would ease the repetition that would occur if you cover the entire ship in those section 25's, since it provides contrast in shape and colour.

I'm working on balancing the ship right now, in regards to the ablative armor and any other defensive systems. anyone know some good MRA balanced cruisers I could use.
