Hibernation alters the RAM by saving it to the Hard disk so that "No data is lost". For some reason (better description on the way) This affects the way your prossessor, RAM, and Hard disk "talk" to each other, Creating flaws in prossessing and code translating. This problem is thought to occur when the computer powers up again, loading the RAM back to itslef from the Hard disk. Aside from this leingthy explanation, I suggest that you don't use Hiberate at all if you plan to play the game at all.
Thus far, I have had no problems with Ship Maker in this case.

yes, it does, unless you have manually disabled its ability to do so. to check you can (on XP) right click on your desktop, go to properties, it will bring up a window that says display properties or something similar and has a picture of your desktop background. click the tab labeled screes saver, there will be a button called power. click it. explore the entire thing and sub-menus. it will tell you everything about your power scheme. if you have vista, I believe you can just search power settings from the start menu.I don't think my computer hibernates at all. Also why would it affect BF when I didn't have it but the BFSM open? It doesn't make much sense to me.
whatever doesn't work, It's a problem with how battle ships, or one of the programs it is dependent on responds to hibernation. something doesn't reload right, and it causes problems. personally I have never had problems with SM after Hibernating, but BSF will crash. If you want more info on hibernation, Google is your friend.

This would probably belong somewhere in the Custom Ships Forum. Post it under one of the Doodad/Section topics for now.

IIRC, that doesn't work. You're lucky it only did that and didn't crash BSF.

I just noticed this topic, and very occasionally, BSF does something similar with me.
The framerate will drop horribly when a massive amount of sections are destroyed at once, and the game will temporarily freeze for a few minutes, constantly playing the explosion sound effect.. If left on it's own, it will eventually come to, but not before the original explosion has multiplied one hundred fold.
Anna's Sigfried likes to do this most often...

The game has never went trhough a whole skirmish or mission without coming to a complete freeze and needing to be shut down via taskmanager.
