Any suggestions on how to fix that?Kazuael wrote:Sure it fits the fleet theme, but it looks less supertanker-ey. To me it kinda looks like it's a tugboat attached to a bunch of fancy cargo containers, since the front is just a tad bigger than one of the frigates.

Your wish is my command._Ti__ wrote:The Pinatubo is awesome, you should make it a carrier
Etna Carrier
The Etna Carrier, based on the Pinatubo hull, is a valuable asset to any large fleet in raining down fire upon the enemy. Each carrier holds 42 individual drone launchers (credit for rack system goes to Lizzie), with 1 or 2 volleys capable of incapacitating a Pompeii frigate. Although the drones are relatively weak, they can get around deflectors and are cheap to build and lighter than fighter ships. To supplement the weak drones, each Etna has 4 addition anti-artillery gravitic impeders (no need to diversify here) that can reliably block the full artillery onslaught of 10 Vesuvius Battleships, not accounting for beam weapons. Battle plans for fleet subdivisions indicate that each battlegroup will be supported by 1 Pinatubo Freighter and 1 Etna Carrier.

This isn't really a new ship per say, but does it make the nose look better? Do the racks need tweaking? Are the drones too weak or too many? The impeders too powerful? The ships too awesome?

You know, with a bit of nose work, you could make the Kuun-Lan.

So, as I said I would, here is a scale replica of the Imperial Star Destroyer.
To the degree possible, I tried to emulate the ISD exactly. The turbolaser emplacements have the correct number of barrels (clipsize) and the weapon arcs are correct to the degree. Although I can't find a way to get only one turbolaser to fire at once, the shots are still about the way they should be. I replaced the ion cannons with ion laser beams for aesthetics, and put 20 shield generators on the two canonical shield generators. The colors are a little too dark, I know, and the ships fling more turbolasers than would be nice, but as I said, I can't get only one to fire at once. they still have pretty epic battles.
The overall body is an almost exact copy of the ship, with major shapes in the right places, but I can't get rid of the excess section details without making most of the ship pitch black. I'd say it looks pretty good, but the intent here was more accuracy of details than previous unsuccessful attempts.
And yes, the ship is traced from this.

not sure what you mean about the turbolasers(green?) but you might consider setting it for burst fire to simulate multiple turrets firing if thats not what you did already

Shield rings look silly and don't act like shields should. It also means I can't project them from the towers.

Yes, deflectors don't really get the feel right. I think nano-shielding (short-range nanos that heal pieces back to full health in a single frame, but run out of energy eventually and become nearly useless unless the ship isn't in combat long enough for them to recharge) comes the closest to resembling SW shields. If done right, you could even get it to work so that there's independent port, starboard and bow shields.
