ChaosTheory's Ships - Khastal Battleship [7/7/08]

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Is there a way to get those kind of renders for the GIMP?

(cause I'm too poor to get Photoshop)

Invert? Then use a filter or Photobucket's in-built image editor. There are many things you can do to images without Photoshop. Seriously.

MSPaint: ctrl-I.

Copy the picture into something like Irfanview and save as .png. Voila. Probably takes less time than loading up Photoshop.

I have 1 major criticism - the ships look great in the pics, but they don't have a built in custom colour scheme, so they look kinda crappy in game on my comp. If you have the time i would recommend simply clicking custom colour then ok on each segment, that way the colour scheme will fix and other people can enjoy the ships as they are supposed to look :D

On the ships themselves... awesome weapon system, looks hella cool as chunks get smashed off even the toughest ships I have. The drones are fun too, although I found that even a battleship could out run the drones' bullets, lol. Perhaps your ships' accelerations are a little low? I found it hard to close into drone range on similarly powerful ships because of the knockback, but then that's more of a taste thing as to how you feel your ships should be.

It's a nice fleet - I hope to see more of your work soon :D

Whatever it is, it's still his choice as to giving that ship a permanent paintjob or not.

And there you go again. At least try to watch your tone. Wicky has every right to ask such a thing, and CT has every right to do it or not. But you don't have the right to decide whether it should be payed attention to or not.

EDIT: I ment CT. Not Anarki. Dammit.

It was just a recommendation, lol MC - the ships look so good in the screenshots, then I get them onto my comp and they're just a big teal mass cos i'd been messing with my colour settings. A nice touch would be having the highlighted panels in default colours and custom colour the rest of the hull - would save a few sections having to be recoloured as well.

Then again, like I said initially that's just what I would do, not trying to say you must or anything. You asked for criticisms, but the ships are too cool to criticise much stronger than that :)

@anarki: The GIMP has a veritable forest of filters under the filters menu...

Wow.

Okay, for the colors, just go to your "bfconfig" file in the directory and C/P this into the [Player Colours] section, near the bottom. Edit as desired. The main color is #1, the dark underlay color is #2, and the highlight is #3. Glow is set to black.

Orange/gray color scheme:

[Player Colours]
1blue = 100
1green = 100
1red = 100
2blue = 50
2green = 50
2red = 50
3blue = 0
3green = 128
3red = 255

Green/black color scheme:

[Player Colours]
1blue = 35
1green = 35
1red = 35
2blue = 15
2green = 75
2red = 15
3blue = 45
3green = 255
3red = 0

Secondly, as to the filter question, I simply ran it through Paint.net's Outline filter, with "thickness" as 1 or 2 and "intensity" at 50. Freeware photo editing / drawing FTW.

Lastly, the weapon balance. The Axon carrier is a support ship, designed to hide behind or flank the Synapse battleship. It's artillery is nerfed by doubling the reload, while the damage and reload on the drones are improved. Without a battleship or destroyer escort, the Axon is easy prey to faster artillery fire, but as a secondary ship, its drones can easily match the destructive abilities of artillery weapons. The large number of drones also effectively kills the FPS, but it's fun to watch a destroyer get caught in the path of a bullet rain.

I think I'll make a destroyer for this fleet, and then enter it into the BF3 fleet category.

Okay, sorry to double post, but I've completed the Dendrite Destroyer, and the whole fleet is ready and available as .shp, .sb3, and .enc files.

Synapse Fleet

Pic in formation:

The Dendrites are the rather blocky pair on the top and bottom right. they are somewhere in between the 5-gun, 2-missile Synapse and the 1-gun, 2-missile Neurons.

Being as this thread is not merely for the Synapse fleet, have some more chaotic goodness:

Image

"Rumors that the Myrr Imperial Armada has been secretly perfecting what speculators are calling a 'Graviton Drive' were confirmed today by Emperor Amyadon. According to the sparse press release accompanying the announcement, the new Vesuvius Battleship is equipped with direct-conversion drives, which use the interesting properties of 'anti-gravitons' to warp the curvature of spacetime at 99.83% energy conversion efficiency. The exact nature of the Graviton Drives and what other uses are possibly in store for this promising technology remain unknown, but Emperor Amyadon was remarkably cheery and talkative today, so things must be going well in the deep space MIA construction facilities."

So, I give you the Vesuvius Battleship, the first ship in my Graviton Fleet. It may look rather dull, but I really like the shape of this one, and it still has awesome battles. Speaking of which:
