Star Trek fanships: Third (and last) Download!

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Star Trek fanships: Third (and last) Download!

Post by ArcaneDude »

Third and last DL:

http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... _Ships.zip

What? You thought I was just nagging around the last few days?

Ye olde attempts at fanships:

The Romulan Imperial Armada

Image

The Klingon Defense Fleet

Image

The United Federation of Planets Starfleet

Image

I have to admit that some of these ships are crappy, but they're all balanced to each other, and to star trek canonity.

Constructive criticism and suggestions/requests are welcome.

I'm still working on other ST ships, mainly Borg, Cardassian...the lot of 'em. So this is all still WIP.

Romulans: TOO MUCH PIECE REPITITION. They also don't have very good shape and form fidelity.

Klingons: Mmmm . . . okay, bit small, not really Klingon-ish looking, not smooth ships at all.

Federation: The Excelsior class is lopsided, The rest aren't veyr curved and starship-looking, but the warp drives on the Excalibur are fairly good.

What, no Warbird? What happened to the Vulcans?

My advice: lay off the smooth organic hulls, you aren't very good at them, but I think Borg might be your style.

The Intrepid looks nothing like an Intrepid.

It does, however, kinda look like the Outlaw Star.

Ugh, that repetition is ugly. The lack of a color scheme makes it even worse.

However, It was a decent attempt.

Christ... I'm sorry, but the piecework here is pretty damn horrendous. Lots of repetition, lots of clutter, lots of mess. Am I gonna need to make some Star Trek ships just to show you people how it's done?

Fair enough attempt, I suppose, but it looks like with just a little bit of effort it could have been significantly better.

QFT(and no, that doesn't start with 'quoted'). Honestly, it looks like you just threw pieces at the ship maker until you had something roughly the right shape, and then moved right on. I'd guess maybe 15-30 minutes work in the hulls off the top of my head. So here is some constructive to the criticism. Really spend some time on each ship.

Use the wonderful features in SM3 to import a reference picture in; This is startrek, there are sure to be plan views on the internet for you to use. And if you balanced them together, as you claim, you surely intended for them to be used together. So for god's sake, scale them together. I'm a little rusty on my techspecs, but I'm pretty sure the Intrepid class is actually larger than the Defiant class. And that's just at a glance.
seriously Anna. seriously oh my gawd seriously.

Silhouette and relative size scale = Dead on, with the exception of a few ships such as intrepid and excelsior class which can use a little tucking in.

Your hull reptition only works for a few ships, and is passable for the rest.

Verdict: You should have a night's rest, then come back and review all the ships you've made. You'll be surprised how apparent you can fine tune them.

I know about the piece repetition. It's horrendous, and so are some of the parenting jobs. But as I said, it's still WIP. I'll be reviewing these ships before I move on to the next batch. Now I know what to fix. Thanks, people!

@Siber: Of course I've been using reference pics. Do you have any idea how dang tricky those trek buggers are to make in BSF? These were all made over the course of a week.
Scimitar. I like.
Federation. Cannon fodder.
Romulan Armada= work of art
:D Thanks. But aahh: Federation=superior tech.

Coming up after I've reviewed the lot of 'em.

What, no Warbird? What happened to the Vulcans?
There are 3 warbirds in the Romulan section. Vulcans=next batch.
As are the Borg, the Cardassians, and the Bajorans. Then I'm gonna go over to Dominion ships, and then the miscellanious work. Unless I've missed a faction. By the time I'm finished, this project is gonna count about 100 ships.
They also don't have very good shape and form fidelity.
The Romulan silhouettes are actually quite precise:

Whew, some harsh words. I personally think that ArcaneDude did a good job. Looks like he worked hard those ships, to make them all to scale. The only reason the Federation ships don't look quite right is because it's hard to make a ship look like the original, but make it small so it is to scale with the other ships. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to a download soon!

Voila. The very words I was too lazy to say. And I figured out a way to make the saucer sections look less crappy. You'll see soon.
