Cynsye's Ships

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Cynsye's Ships

Post by Cynsye »

Found this game the other day and decided to have a go at making some ships.

First ship down, the Hammer class frigate: A long range bombardment craft which sacrifices armour and manoeuvrability to mount a massively oversized power core, allowing its pulsed laser to reach out to unprecedented ranges and still be capable of destroying most similar sized craft. This Hammer is largely defenceless towards nearby smaller or flanking craft however, as it has little beyond a single missile launcher and a pair of flak guns to defend itself with. Ideally the Hammer would be grouped along side a destroyer or two, or in a fire support role for larger craft.

Aries Class destroyer: A multi-purpose craft used in a variety of roles. It is usually seen acting as a scout craft, as its long range multi-spectral sensor suite mounted in the prow is ideal for monitoring enemy movements, whilst still being fully capable of defending itself should the need arise. It is also seen in a support role for the Hammer class frigate, as when the Hammer is linked with the Aries' sensor grids its accuracy increases at long range, and also acts as a defence against flanking craft. Its primary means of attack are six repeating artillery cannons mounted on each side, with a scatter missile launcher to augment this. The sides of this craft are heavily armoured, however its guns are vulnerable to fire.

Hey, not bad for starters at all. A bit generic, yet well executed for the most part. Welcome to the forums.

Wow, it's always nice to see some new faces that know what they're doing.
I like it alot, my only complaint is the back part looks a bit bland and boxy compared to the front.

this is just my opinion, but i think it'd look better if you moved the.. back slightly forward and got rid of the cubic side thingys. good start anyway

*looks up and agrees with everyone

Yeah, the back end of the ship lacks detail when compared to the rest of the ship. Personally I say keep those side sections, but they also need a bit more detail. Put some doodads on them or something.

Apart from that, your section choices are good, placement is good, colouing is nice. Good start.

Aye aye, Capt'n.

Very good ship for a new builder, I see that you've done a good amount of lurking. Only problem I have for it is that the tail ends too abruptly. The core glow is well done, and not a hunk of high-saturation aegis. Wee bit thin like a toothpick, but there's alot of potential in this.

Keep on building, and welcome to Wyrd! I hope the HOS hasn't scared you off  .

very nice. if you add some curve or angles to the rear like ya did in the front, and stick some engines in the two gaps in the rear, it will be looking very decent!

Rounded off the rear similarly to the front, plus I removed the upper strut from the rear so you can actually see the engine now :D .

I went for the thin look as it is essentially a gun with an engine strapped to the end, and it does give it a sense of fragility. I think I will have to make its escort destroyer now.

The section usage in the front is great, and the overall shape is pleasing to the eye and pretty original. The cannons along the sides seem very linear though, lined up in neat rows when the sides are curved,

Yeah, not too pleased with the guns. They are stepped inwards so that just the tip protrudes but doesn't show too well.. but the sprites went a bit wonky when i tried to make them angled so they point outwards. I'll see what i can come up with.

Cheers.

EDIT: These sprites don't bug.. makes the guns stick out a bit more but thats fine.

The section usage near the back center is cluttered. The ship seems to suddenly get a bit too "fat" as you get near the back. I however love the front of this ship.
Keep up the good work.

I agree. There's simply too much stuff in the middle to look at, when you compare it to the rest of the ship. It is also a bit fat, you should lengthen the ship a bit more. And this is a bit trivial, but why is there a gap in between the two thrusters? It's a bit weird in my opinion
