Do'Rylus Fleet (Download on page 3)

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

I don't know what other's will say, but I think it looks better this way. Less like lunch Razz.
Glad you like it

*Update*

For lack of anything better to do, I worked on shading the rest of the ships and lightening them up so they're more easily visible.

I also worked on some parenting and balancing, so the fleet is a bit closer to being finished. I shrank the fighters a bit too, since I felt like they were too big for fighters.

Lastly, NEW SHIP!!!

I updated the first post to include the Runner-Class, some updated pictures, and a new full fleet picture.

*Update*

I added a bit of a backstory. It isn't great writing, but it's something.

Anyway, here's a bit of a teaser image for the fleet's flagship, the Chk'Natha. It's mostly finished, I just need to correct a few weird errors (like the firing arcs on some of the missile launchers facing backwards. What's up with that?)

FLYING SAUCER, FTW!!

I hate to triple-post, but since apparently no one wants to comment on my ships, I'm gonna go ahead and do it.

*update*

The Chk'Natha is done, other than maybe some doodad work that I'll put on later.

I also updated a few of the front page pictures. I'm thinking I'll add a few more ships and put up a download.

I'd love to hear some thoughts on the ships and ideas on how I can improve them.

Lovely circular ship. I like the weapon placement and the sections bunched up in the centre.

Judging by the action shot of the saucer, it looks like (can't believe I am going to say this) it doesn't have enough deflectors? Of course, I have no idea what kind of HP did you give to the outer sections.

Generally, I like the shape and use of sections. However, IMHO the colour scheme doesn't really give the ship's complexity any justice. The colours really dull the detailing that you did on the ships, especially the saucer for it to be fully appreciated.

There's definitely some appealing style elements in here; the unconventional shapes and novelty weapons.

I think the colour scheme works quite well, but if I may suggest, a lighter-coloured outline partway through the hull would bring out some of the construction features.

For example.

The downside is that reconstruction to include inlining is a pain, I know.

Also, I like how you managed to include a fair amount of repetition but having it looks pleasing rather than horrible.

I originally had a lot more deflectors on here, 4 each on those blocks instead of one. However, that would make it basically impossible to kill once you blast off all but those last few sections. I could add more deflectors, but there's not another great spot to put them. I suppose I could put some on the end of those section 16s that hold the demeters. The other thing to note is that I changed the color on the deflectors to be a darker green.

I'm kind of torn on this. I wanted to make the ships kind of dark and I like how the colors look in general. However, I can see how that kind of obscures the details. I don't know, maybe I'll lighten it up a little, but probably not too much. It's also a big pain to recolor that whole ship, and I'm not sure I want to do that.

Eh, I'm not a big fan of that effect. I wanted to avoid using outlining if I could for these ships. I want them to look kind of organic and flowing, and the outlining kind of ruins that.

I see. If you're looking for a quasi-organic effect, perhaps just slightly change the shading of some areas would do the trick; it'd add depth as well.

Well, I've done a significant amount of shading on most of the ships, lightening up areas to give them some sense of depth. The shading is a bit subtle though. You think maybe I should make the shading more drastic?

For the Chk'Natha, I might do some shading on the outer purple area, but I'm not sure it really needs it.

I haven't commented on this thread simply because the color didn't let me at all see any of the details. I really think you should lighten it up a bit. The overall ship shapes are very nice however.

Alrighty. I upped the luminosity of the Wyrm by 10 to see how it looks. Tell me if that's bright enough or if I need to take it up a bit more. Once I get this one right, I'll go back and do the other ships (sigh).

It's much better, but more contrast between purple and green would make it better.

alrighty

I lightened up the purple core area to give it more contrast. I also did the Barrage-Class.

Let me know how it looks.

Also, anything in particular that you think the fleet needs. I'm planning on adding a few more ships, but I'm not really sure what kind of ships to make. Any classes or ship types you guys would like to see?

*Update*

I've lightened up all of the ships except for the Chk'Natha, hopefully they'll be easier to see now. The pictures from the first post are all updated. I'm planning on adding a few more ships, then I'll put up a download and start on building their opposing fleet.

Let me know what you think about the ships.

The colour variation makes a big difference. I like the new ship.
