nidmeister's Space Gadgets.

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

nidmeister's Space Gadgets.

Post by nidmeister »

I downloaded this game for the second time last night, and since then I've been playing around with the Ship Maker, trying to be as creative as I can be. So first up, I introduce these small gadgets I've been working on, it took me less than 5 minutes, but is effective at what it's supposed to do. Absorb Fire.

(since above picture was taken I have reduced the AI range to 200.)
Thats right, I invented that small thing. It's incredibly simple, and I made it it less than 3 minutes. These Kamikase Explosive Platforms with stay where positioned and absorb enemy fire with flak cannons, they are weak, but agile and fast, and when ordered, they can throw themselves at an enemy ship and explode on contact. They are incredibly useful when used in large groups. Armed with 3 flak cannons each, they are great for absorbing enemy projectiles, and protecting space, fleets, or for surrounding an enemy. Ideally used in large groups for actually bombarding an enemy ship. Admittedly they don't do much damage, that isn't what they were designed for, but in large groups (15-20) they can be devastating to even the largest of ships, providing they are used and placed correctly.
Here's some screens of them in action;

(You get the big explosions when you use lots of them :) )

Technical difficulties.
when AI controlled, these explosives do cause an error when exploding on an enemy ship. However this error can be bypassed by simply pressing ignore. I'm not sure whether this is a problem with the Kamikase AI type, or a problem with my ship design, either way I'm working to resolve it.

And for those of you who fail to see my creative side with this;
Next up: My J2-101 Stinger, MK3 (First 2 failed my test, and the parenting was really messed up.)
Here's her Bare Hull shot:

And here she is Fully Armed and balance tweaked (Balanced against a custom ship :) ):

Balance against custom ships...

Give it a 99999 damage mega beamer. That would be pretty balanced.

Nice explosive device!

Thanks Guys :)
I've updated the Stinger, but theres a fleet + in-battle services (such as repair docks) to fit alongside this ship as well.
And I need to get A little backing history behind these as well.

I suggest you press "P" before making a screen. That way you remove those nasty white lines ;)

Nice design on the Stinger... though it makes me curious which custom ship it was balanced against.
