The gattling gun doesn't work so well for me - the belt constantly rotates, and the centre gun (presumably intended as a dummy) is the only one that fires - the big side bits do nothing. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is all due to a more recent version of SM fucking things up.
All that said, the cannon is FREAKING GODLY - love it.

Alright guys, sorry for the wait. Too busy in RL to make more weapons.
That said, I been doing lots of experiments to figure out the depths of the shipmaker and I can happily showcase some of the fun stuff:
Okay 1st up the Double-barreled Plasma Cannon:

Firing Cannon

Name: Double-barreled Plasma Cannon
Role: Anti-capital ship weaponary
Recommended size: Destroyer-mount
Rating: 3/5
Pros: Very reliable
Cons: Auto-loading not very visable
Comments: The very first prototype for my autoloading trigger, this is a fairly good turret, not excellent but still good.

Next its big brother, the experimental tri-HEAP cannon:

FIRING CANNON!

Name: Experimental Tri-HEAP cannon
Recommended size: Dreadnought-mount, Seigeship-mount
Rating: 5/5
Pros: Awesome and big but...
Cons: How the hell do you mount something that big?
Comments: This is what happens when you get carried away with making turrets
, this is the second turret with auto-loading. Very big, very detailed but you need an equally big ship to mount it.

Okay, the next one, the Cross laser:

Firing laser!

Name: Cross Laser
Recommended size: Crusier-mount, Destroyer-mount
Rating: 2/5
Pros: It's a sword in space!
Cons: It's just a sword in space...
Comments: My tip of my hat to a certain father from Chrono Crusade. It's a ramming weapon, great for making a ramming ship.

And for the last of my weapons, the Shuriken Launcher:

I'm gonna have to thank Th15 for this one, he's Tentaculat (Slightly dumb tentacles though..) gave me the inspiration to do this:

Name: Shuriken Launcher
Recommended size: Destoyer-Mount
Rating: 5/5
Pros: Great Taser weapon, abides by the laws of physics too! And they are not stupid!
Cons: Freakin teddie-ous to make. Can't really chop up ships, more of tasering them
Comments: Again, let me thank Th15, for making his Tentaculats. I can't actually make spining blades do damage though so they surfice as taser weapons for now.

Side-view? What's that? Can I have an example?Kanosint wrote:Okay, you're a turret-building God of sorts... Hmmm, I wonder, can you try a side-view turret? Not really a request, just curious how you'd do it, seeing how my current side-views are rather simplistic...
I build turrets from a top-down perspective since, BSF is a top-down game..

What do you mean by that?Kaelis wrote:Interesting weapons, shame they don't really serve any purpose.

Actually, the only reason why there I haven't made any ship with the turrets is because I've been too busy making turrets to actually make the ships themselves.Kaelis wrote:I mean theyre just floating turrets, proof of concept, but not actually integrated into a proper ship.

This whole thing started waaayyyy back in '08 when I finished Daedalus and started to think of ways to reduce weapon spam. One thing led to another and then this was born.
I'm surprised though, I thought by now someone should have built a ship using my turrets or at the very least around the concept of it. After all, that's the whole point of me releaseing the turrets rather than build one gigantic ship with them, so that more people have the chance to use them! It isn't that hard to utilise them, load up the turret, rename it, tweak the parameters and build the ship! I hope that more people would learn by example on how to make them so that we can see more ships on a larger scale.
If not, then I have to make a step by step guide...

Well, it's top down because 99% makes top-down ships... It's full-well possible to make side-view ships, but it seems that this is just a forgotten concept for most...

That's a little example... I think seeing more side-view is welcome.

Ara made a side view ship. He thought he failed but I feel he did a good job of it.

Ah, I see what you mean.
But there's a problem with making Side-view turrets and ships...
Ships look way cooler top-down than sideways.
Thing is, from a top-down perspective, you can overcome its in ability to move up and down by creating an illusion of depth. Now for a side-view ship, how the heck do you give it an illusion of breath? Compare a ship, the same ship made in Top-down and Side-view and you realize that the limitations of its 2D plane is more easily overcome by doing a top-down rather than sideways.
Important note!
I'm gonna take a break from making turrets for now, Kaelis has reminded me that I have yet to build something concrete with my turrets.
So, from now on, I'm gonna work on finishing up a quick guide before going back to making ships. I shall now take my exit from the turret stage and hopefully someone else can fill the vacuum until I get back.
Chow guys!
*Leaves*
Even more important note!
Can someone give me on some C&C please? I'm choosing which turret or to be more precise, which technique has the most potential for my ships.
