The ARC (Amaterasu Dreadnaught and KKM)

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

...oh. my. god. how horrid! You vivisected that ship to death and have displayed a fondness for weirdly-kinked struts that are too spindly and far-too-large and irregular open spaces screaming for want of any internal bracing!

Keep that hull shape, fill it back in like last time, and continue the curve up into the pylons for your sidecandy. Try making them big podded engines and putting your two GIGANTOBEAMZZZ side by side just aft of the outlined indent in the front end of the blue hull. Also, try using wing spars (but fill them out into full wings before showing them off; that gives us exactly the section we need to aim at to shoot that wing off, too. Make us figure out where the bone's buried under all that hullmeat while your ship's shooting back. And give your ship's bones a nice thick cover of hullmeat and armor to eat enemy fire to avoid or at least resist unwanted amputations. :D

Hay Noctis, I wanna see you put this in Parenting Guide Mk 2!

'Noctis' guide to shipbuilding:episode 9(?),Hullmeat.'

Looking forward to that one.

Now on the massive blue brick.Small color variations would help. Then there is the factor of turning it into not a massive blue brick.
Try a star trek TNG style connection between the lower and higher sections.(determined by the outlining)

Eyeburn, i have a legitimate, entirely serious question for you.

Why do you insist on continuing that affront to shipbuilding you call Amaterasu?

So far pretty much everyone here has said time and again that there is not a single good thing about that... thing. Some have even expressed utter hate, others ridiculed you. Valid criticism (if you can criticize something that ugly without outright condemning it) and ideas how to improve have also been posted. There is no way you could have missed all this.

Yet you continue, happily adding to the ugliness in an effort to make the Amaterasu even worse. Surely, there must be some odd reason as to why someone would do this. Its as if you are reading the comments, but the criticism and advice is somehow passing through your mind without any trace.

Why?

Ok look back at your previous thread and your previous ships. Time and time again people tell you they suck and yet you keep going. This means there's something fundamentally wrong with your building ideas and practices.

drop this project

start making small ships, between 20 and 30 pieces all together, then, when you do one that everyone here can agree is good, then move on to bigger ships.

an idea that worked for me:

post up some of your older, but origional newbie ships, and see if there are any elements of them that people like. the thread that now hosts my Thermopylae class dreadnought was originally home to such ships that gave me incite into what to do and what not to do. if there is anything people like, use that in your new shipbuilding efforts. also, it is much simpler to fix a small ship than a dreadnought.

I, and many other people, have told him that before but he refuses to listen to advice given.

Seriously IBurn, stop now and start a new thread with small ships. Tackle that, and maybe in the future you can get back to bigger designs.

Is it just me, or does this scenario seem oddly familiar?

By the power of greyskull? lol I have to say even dannys version sucks, predominantly because of that dark blue; it just doesn't look that good covering large areas of the ship by itself.

Try making an area within that center blue a different color as if its raised, and maybe we will be somewhere...And pleeeease, don't make your engine glow the same color as your ship?!

But to be fair, even eyeburn's version is not a brick  , its always been the internals he needs to work on so try not to misdirect him...

It is a brick. A curvy (the bad kind) brick but a brick nonetheless.

Danny's is a marginal improvement but if you ask me this thing is beyond saving. :|

perhaps but wouldn't you rather see him make a penis brick with none of his other mistakes, like randomly shoving pieces to fill it in, than yet another monstrosity?

Iburn, try not building the outer shell first, try building from the center out and giving it a sense of structure, purpose, and depth... Otherwise i agree that you try making a small(stock even?) ship and working your way up with one good style.

I'm catching that drift myself. I've a notion to COMPLETELY rip out the blue bits at this point.

Please do. That thing has been through hell and back and it's still crap, even with your improvement.

Assuming no one objects, I'd like to post a version of the Amaterasu that I did. It's only the first/reactor deck. I added white as a major part of the paint job, but kept the origional blue for outlining, and extended those tachyon cannon things into barrels (thanks to whoever I borrowed that from). I tried to stay close to the feel of the origional, but with better section use.

Image

another deck would be added around this one and the hull would still keep the same silhouette. also, I could see wing beam cannons on this thing. Iburn, if you would like to build off this, I'll send you what I've got.
(I'll will remove this if requested to do so.)

Shit still sucks. :?

Superfluous outlining and poor colour choice...

Stop trying to save this thing, guys. It's a lost cause.
