the important part of what I said:
kill it. dispose of it. get rid of it in any way you damned well feel like. super nova, reactor fail, I don't care, but put this ship behind you and start over.
I would have been nicer, but he's right. come up with your own reactor, one that fits in with your style, and if I were you, I'd stop being so stubborn and take some advice. I know you like doing your own thing, but this is just too much epic fail. just take Anna's advice. that's all I have to say.
You ignored me, and proceeded onwards, and the rest of the ship is even fucking worse. Seriously, that generator is some sloppy shit, but the rest of the ship is just eye-poppingly bad.

Ok, I downloaded and toyed around with the Amaterasu ship, and I have determined that your lack of defenses is disturbing.
Using ships balanced to the MRA, it died. Using my cousin's weaker ships, it died. It seems that the larger section 10s and 26s used to fill space actually hamper it's defensive capabilities, as normally many smaller sections used in place of the larger ones can take more damage without causing a critical structure failure. As soon as weapons breach the outline armor, they make short work of the ship. And EVERY root section seems(?) to be parented to that central section twenty six, so when that is destroyed, instead of taking out a chunk, I take out the ENTIRE ship. The weapons are ok, and the wingtip laser cannon are pretty sweet in their appearance, but they really seem to lack any sort of actual kick to them. Though I realize that this isn't balanced to other's fleets, you'd probably want to up the damage, especially if this ship is going to be some sort of flag ship, as it's description suggests.

lol...thanks for the test results, I'm slowly bringing up to MRA. The computer I use to build and test ships is so pathetic that it cann't load Spoot Knight's fleet.
As for the main and side lasers, their power is going to go up. The active defenses will be provided by a new frigate, which is under testing now. A new version of the Amaterasu will be released soon.

UPDATE:
Amaterasu V2.0 is done, please download and C&C.
Changes:
All weapons do 3X damage
PD's are effective to a degree
Parenting fixed (To a degree, not much I can do without reworking the whole wing)

OK, this thing is WEAK. it still struggles to destroy stock ships, and can't even break through a Nagya 3's aegis. it also gets raped by a Vox Vocis. needs armor, and some deflectors wouldn't hurt.Changes:

Since you included a .sb3, I decided to check the parenting myself:

The main problems are circled (clumsily) below:

Edit:
One bizarre and noteworthy thing: The most powerful weapons (1500 damage Weasels) are pointing... backwards

well, it's bad parenting if you get floating sections. that is just plain unacceptable. this kind isn't as bad. it is OK in that it doesn't leave floating sections, but bad from a tactical perspective, because most of the ships armor gets sheared off, leaving the ship much weaker than it seams at first.
EDIT: I'm kind of disappointed. this is my three hundred fourteenth post. isn't it supposed to say something about pi?

The problem with the circled area is that it's a tactical liability; the armour on either side of the bow is parented to sections on the same "layer", rather than to a more central point, so hits to the rear of the circled area could tear off the whole bow, rather than just one section.Caesius wrote:Excuse the n00bery, but what exactly defines good parenting (and more importantly, bad parenting)?
Nobody's complained about mine so I've just kinda assumed I've been doing it right.
For a simple visual representation:
Observe a well-parented "ship":

Destroying a single section of the armour has no other repercussions:

Here, look at a badly-parented version of the same ship:

Destroying the same single section tears off all the armour on that side of the ship:

Well, I guess I've been doing my parenting alright for the most part, but is that sort of parenting somewhat more acceptable in the case of Schwarzwald?

The idea here is that the parenting of the barrels shouldn't be an issue until the wings and side armor have been blown off.
Edit: Though now that I look at it, I realize I overlooked how everything besides the centerline pieces are connected to those Section 24's at the bases of the engines. I guess it makes sense though, since you'd have to either get a beam pointed almost perfectly down the centerline from behind the ship, or you'd have to get through the engines to get to the 24's.
In any case, I do agree that the Amaterasu's parenting is pretty bad.
