BSF 2 suggestion topic.
Moderators: th15, Moderators
Some of my suggestions:
1. For the shipmaker, add a 'layers' system, like in autocad. Basically, you would put sections into groups called layers, and all sections would be in one. This would have no in-game effect, but would be useful in the editor, as you could mass-move/parent/recolor/delete/edit each layer, have layer depth for more powerful layering (eg. stacking a layer with all the weapon mounts on top of all other layers would ensure that the weapon mounts are always on top), and the ability to toggle layer visibility.
2. Ability to mass-select sections in the shipmaker by holding down shift. You could then play around with the sections as if they were one, making mass-recolors/hp mods blazingly easy.
3. An extra part of the shipmaker, for making fleets. Fleets would be groups of ships (duh) and various additional statistics for the whole fleet, or certain ships in particular. For example, you could give each ship a resource cost, define a construction list for the shipyard, and fill in a fleet description. This would tie in with more RTS elements which I've mentioned before (gathering, building, repairing, etc.).
4. Ability to parent weapons to other weapons, which would render the 'child' weapons with the same turn rate, rotation, fire arc, range, and position as the parent, as well as making the child weapon invincible. This would be useful for making more complex layered weapons, as they would never un-sync with each other.
And, I guess I'll quote my stuff from the old suggestions topic:

natan_j wrote:-ability to disable ships, by having each section have two types of health, Hull Integrity (HI/HP) and Systems Integrity (SI/SP). When HI reaches zero, the section blows up, and those parented to it blow up. When SI reaches zero, the section is still alive, but all weapons/modules attached to it become disabled, and the same for any other sections attached to it (the core SI reaching zero would disable the whole ship). Weapons could be designed to kill ships or disable them by having separate damage values for HI and SI. I dunno if people like this, or have any ideas to change it for the better.

great idea. keep them all.
expanding on the auto cad idea, i think it would be great to have everything that has been suggested to this point in shipmaker.
I would like to see:
cad style shipbuilding. if cad has it, SM should too.
-multiple layers and subsets of layers
-groups of importable sections
-ability to do a rendering of the object in SM. render it with/ without wep effects
-ability to only view sections in a certain layer
-ability to upload screen shots from the SM
-working custom colors
-automatic custom gradients(distance from core)
-smart coloring based on layer (IE: you chose the color, grey, red, blue, whatever, and the computer determines the shade based on layer.)
-ability to view all stats on the ship in SM (IE: total damage the ship puts out per Min, the max damage at any facing [like max damage to a ship 30 degrees starboard], the total health from any heading to the core, and a better diagram system in the standard overlay view.
also, I'd like to suggest that this be split into 2 different threads, SM stuff goes in a thread in custom ships, this one stays here with only BSF stuff. would keep this shorter and easier to follow.

Damn. I shouldn't wait so long to update that list.
Also, hello Danny.

Re Sig: Plenty of lulz have been had. Just look at the hall of shame.
Glad to see SDN's best traditions are catching on. So, who'll be the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? :twisted:Arcalane wrote:hall of shame.
Oh, the Hall of Shame has been around since the forum was started, though it was hidden and known as the Rubbish Tip back then. I occasionally used it as hiding place for certain topics. It's the first forum on the index (ie, #1), so I assume th15 wisely repurposed it knowing that bots almost always try to post their spam in the first forum on the index.
It was hidden from most users until I got promoted, at which point I figured we may as well have a hall of shame and made it visible (though locked) and renamed it. There are, after all, some moments which just can't be deleted.
As for the change of arrangement, blame th15, that's all his fault.

Waverider was epic. A fusion would be pretty cool, I say do it.Danny420Dale wrote:Hmm, maybe a fusion of the Minotaur and Waverider concepts...Exethalion wrote:Get a cool next gen version of the fleet done and we're talking turkey!Danny420Dale wrote:Thanks guyz. Think my Minotaur Fleet is still viable btw?
