Darkship's assorted stuff (now with a new ship)

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

unfortunately the winglets are a feature of this fleet so i do not wish to remove them. However on another note i have yet another vessel to show. After applying modifications and edits to the Novax and taking in the advice put forward i have created a new ship that applies all the lessons learned so far.

Here it is, The Praetorian class Cruiser

Image

The Fiction:
The Praetorian is the result of analyzing the data retrieved from the Novax's testing in the lab and in the field. Using many of the new technologies pioneered in the Novax design, the Praetorian features the new 'Perseus' sheath shielding system as well as a newer models of the 'Luminous' beam cannons. While the power of the beam weapons does not match that of the original to facilitate mass production, they are still quite formidable weapons. In addition to cutting edge technology, the Praetorian is also equipped with top of the line conventional shielding and point defense weapons.

oh noes a double post :!:

but i couldnt resist, i have yet another ship from another corporation!

Arjuna Class Destroyer

Image
Fiction:
The Arjuna class destroyer is a design from the rival corporation, OmniPulse. This ship is a major departure from their usual designs which often involve cheap and unreliable copies of Defiance Industries vessels. Corporate espionage has revealed that OmniPulse has managed to acquire some form of alien technology involving nanites. It would seem that these nanites now form a fundamental part of their ship construction, unlocking various technological avenues for OmniPulse. Reports indicate that the weapons are also of alien design, featuring advanced tachyon and particle manipulation devices. Further espionage has to be conducted to discover more of the Arjuna's abilities.
End

So i went on to try various design techniques i have seen around the forums, (i hope this doesn't count as copying designs) and used the aegis-ed engine systems and section 08 for more 'spines' on the ship.

open to comments!

edit: made minor modifications on it

i like the very front, and the wings look neat too, but the very back spines frankly look awkward. also, something (to me at least) seems slightly off about the middle (when you look at it, it almost feels... disconnected from the rest of the ship, sort of), not sure how to describe it. Also, you have a layering error right on the middle (the lower section 13) and your lower demeter placement seems a bit of you might want to adjust those.
pretty neat style though.
Oh, and the red "outlineish" look seems to work really well when you have less not more of it (middle versus, again, front and wings)

I don't like those grey bits on the sides of the Praetorian, they just don't seem to fit in properly to me. Otherwise, it looks good.

I like the core of the Arjuna, and the engine area. Otherwise, good contrast between the red and black pieces.

No, I mean those section...20somethings ontop of the section 03s. They look like they're jutting out too much.

what do you propose? remove them or move them back so that they fit more with the contours of the ship?

I think you should keep them. It gives the ship a personality.

hello again,

ive decided to take a break from the Defiance company line (and Omnipulse if i can help it) and try to build a generally more complex ship from scratch. So no reusing core sets and making deliberate moves to go away from previous designs.

Well the result of this process is the Throne. I got to backstory or fiction for this so I'm just gonna leave that out this time

Throne

the gatling pulse is modded to fire really fast and with much more accuracy, but with a size to its ammo bin.
As for the design i think several pieces might have to go, i'm still thinking about it. Some examples include the 'fin' thing at the back, the missile banks and perhaps some relayering of the engine 'pods'.
Color scheme is pending after completing the ship.

Oh and heres a picture of another Omnipulse company ship. i'm guessing its gonna receive a lot of flak for its design because it deviates from the engine pod layout of the Arjuna. Still it is better find out now than later. Again no fiction for the moment.

The Gandiva is fine. I like the design you used for the core.

yay the Gandiva's design has been approved! :P

In more recent times however i have attempted something else. i have attempted to create a far more complexed and larger ship (im sure some might quibble about how much larger larger is) and as a result i have come up with one ship design.

(this project can be seen in another thread i put up)

Omnipulse Pack

yay for the first thing i have ever released. :)

one more thing, go and comment and critique!

Excellent, excellent work. I spy some mirroring errors though, so go fix them up? Most of them involve the weapons being shifted by a pixel or two.

With the Throne, Monk, Deacon and Bishop, I am not liking the deflector clusters at the rear. All your other weapon placements come out in nice orderly lines and in contrast the deflectors are all bunched together. I think it would look nice to display them in a short line roughly in the same place they are now, with a bit of spacing 'tween each one. That way they kind of mirror the neat deployment of the rest of the ships' weapon systems.
