Of course not. Most of them will work with Wine, but the fact it doesn't work with everything is why I dual-boot. I spend 90% of my time using Linux because it's faster, stabler, easier to use, and secure; and 10% playing games on Windows. I lose: nothing.

Well, I have Vista with no firewall, no antivirus and no bluescreens yet too because I constantly think about security, what I click on, and what programs I use (Firefox w/ Noscript, Adblock). However, I'd prefer not to have to be constantly doing this, and the average computer user (e.g. my grandparents) wouldn't have any idea where to start. I often spend my free time fixing other peoples' Windows computers because of this.

Also, 64-bit = Security through obscurity. As it becomes normal for users, the risk will increase over time as it will do for Vista.

Yes yes yes! Exactly what I was thinking except I don't have a vista.

The only security tool I have on my XP is a built-in pop-up blocker and Spybot S&D. Using these two tools my browsing is completely safe and manageable. It's because so many compu-noobs use Windows, and don't know that when "Win32-Tojan.Horse.23409" is trying to change their personal settings that they should press "Do Not Allow".

Not that I don't like Linux. I used Linux once to rescue my system.

Topic revival to ask a question if anyone is still around!

How easy is it to install Linux in such a way you can dual-boot?
Can I boot from a USBHDD?
If so, presumably I could go into the Bios and set it to boot from the USB device as first priority, then if I wanted to boot Windoze I can simply unplug it.

He has a relevant question, though. But still it's irritating to see such threads come back up on top again, after...6 months?

I'm perfectly aware what is and is not liked.
Not a necro, I had a relavent question -

If a thread is over a month old, and/or you don't have anything legitimate or extremely useful to add, please don't post in them.

I've been around long enough to know the rules, eh.

Game_Boy seemed to be our resident Linux expert here, and he hasn't appeared for months. But what you are saying I presume can be done, judging by how easy GB said it was to dual boot Ubnutu.

There is a specific version of linux I believe called, pocket linux. The entire OS can be stored on a flash drive. In fact I believe someone was able to put it on a digital watch it takes so little space. I'm not a huge expert on linux by any means but I'm pretty sure you can boot from external device using other linux distros as well. If you know how to set up partitions, installing XP in one and linux in another is incredibly easy, and an automatic boot menu shows up at start up for you to choose your OS. If anyone needs assistance setting up partitions just pm me. I try to check the forums every day.
