That's gonna be a tad too small. Gives advantage to big lumbering battleships which then can trap flankers against a wall. Maybe around 4096x4096 would be better.
Given that the Mothership tourneys (9 ships) were run at 5000x5000, 18 ships constrained to 2048x2048 seems rather cramped. Also, your reason for the small dimensions being a concern about stalemates and no clear winner I think has become a moot issue now that you are working on using a point system for surviving/intact ships. Personal preference - 5000x5000.
A small sandbox hurts people that design fast mobile ships, they have their ships capabilities crippled by the maneuvering constraints imposed by the boundary limits (I am sensitive to this issue, as in the past I have usually made fast mobile ships, and have watched them get crushed because they get involved in boundary box bouncing rather than deep space fights with no artificial boundaries).
Because of the high ship number count, an opposing fleet of AI Range=1000 lancet firing ships would find some of its ships getting pushed to the boundaries (even at 5000x5000) by the other fleet's ships, cornered and destroyed. If this was a purely one on one battle, then it would be of greater concern. If the lancet ships are otherwise ineffective, then those lost ships (whatever number) assures the lancet team of a loss.
