The Solaris-New Titan That I'm Currently Making

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Anna, when you said "awesome ships" and then showed some "awesome ships" you showed him you're own ships, I don't mind posting your ships in my topic and comparing them but you're pretty much saying you're ships are better. Yes theya re better because you are a better ship builder, but I DO mind you saying yours are better and that mine are bad. It's a WIP, and by the way, personally I think the first one on those 5 was also sort of... sloppy, too much repetion on the wing tips, just like on mine.. but that's just my opinion.

mtheminja, they're not completly black, but pretty dark.

I did the wings in a hurry, because I was short of time when doing them. Now I have a full day to work on them so expect an update at least tomorrow.

Well, since the game has a stroke if you use pure black, most of us probably guessed as much. And I did take care to say near black instead of just black. :P

if you have moderate to good eyes you can see the details at least in the shipbuilder which doesn't have the ship glow.

Here it is, the finished hull. I might change it but if no one points out any mistakes this is the final.

The bunch of zippers kinda ruined the effect. Personally I think the very first picture without the side structures looked perfectly fine as is. Mind you, this is still an excellent ship by any standards, but the repetition of those side pieces is kind of jarring.

Reminds me of the Ragnarok, in the way that it looks like a dragon.

@Water_and_Wind

Yeah when I put them on there it started to look less appealing. Plus I have over 200 parts just from those...

I agree with the others, I could do without the pointy bits. Other than that I'll keep my previous statement and say that this is my favorite ship on these forums right now!

All my previous commentary stands. Your wings still look bland and ugly compared to the central hull. I'm not kidding.

Look at that. You've got mostly blank space, interspersed slightly with some highlighted bits to make a random shape that somehow makes it look worse. Honestly, those wings either need the internal highlighting removed, or a serious overhaul in detail, because when compared to the central part of the ship, it's a massive drop in quality.

Okay that's it. I'm leaving these fourms and quitting work on the Solaris. If anyone wants the ship ill let you have it. Goodbye.

Jeesh, some people can't take criticism.

No, it's not that, Anna' critisizm Is just plain bad. He says my ship is bad after I work for days on it and no matter what I do, he says its terrible. I can't stand his "critisizm".

I'd like to know what fantasy land he lives in, where valid and even helpful constructive criticism is taken as an excuse to cry and leave. Not that I'm complaining, since I think the community is better off without such whiners. If no one else wants to take his Solaris and try to fix it, then I will, but only if no one else expresses interest in doing so. I feel no need to fix a ship that's basically just a poor immitation of my own work anyway, and I'm more interested to see how some of the other people here would do with it.

... Okay, now you're verging in to the region of "fucking pathetic". You can't stand valid, well-intentioned criticism, encouraging you to improve upon glaring flaws in your ship's design? And I'm the bad guy? Fuck off.

EDIT: It's now been a full hour, and you're still lurking on the forums. Generally, when people say they're gonna leave, they actually... y'know, leave, instead of skulking in the corner and hoping someone will take pity on them.

Jesus motherfucking christ, what were you thinking, man?!
[20:07] * %Siber gives up on the Solaris
[20:07] <%Siber> I've got better thigns to do with my tiem than fix that thing
[20:08] <@Anna> Heh.
[20:08] <~Arcalane> wtf. yay floating sections.
[20:21] <~Arcalane> <%Siber> The parenting... is odd in places // "odd"? -"odd"-? Dude, this is far beyond odd. This is so fuckin' fucked up it make parenting every section into one giant -chain- look sane.
[20:21] <%Siber> Heheh
[20:21] <@Anna> XD
[20:21] <%Siber> It looks like it's the worst in the wings
[20:21] <~Arcalane> also; jeez, I get the idea, outlining is cool, but this guy's just totally overdone it.
[20:21] <~Arcalane> no, look front and center of the core
[20:22] <~Arcalane> you see the area with the "raised" platforms?
[20:22] <+Muug> oh snap
[20:22] <%Siber> well, I already closed it
[20:22] <@Anna> The parenting on my ships can get a bit confusing at times.
[20:22] <~Arcalane> Anna; trust me, this is beyond confusing, this is downright befuddling
[20:22] <~Arcalane> if you blow up one section fairly near the core, you're going to lose pretty much half the ship
[20:23] <~Arcalane> and then you're going to lose another half from the debris
[20:23] <~Arcalane> and by the time it's done, there'll be about six halves of your ship floating around. That's how fucked up it is.
[20:24] <~Arcalane> well okay maybe I exagerrate a little, but you get the idea
[20:24] <@Anna> Heh.
[20:25] <%Siber> Someone was careless?
[20:25] <~Arcalane> very
[20:26] <~Arcalane> there are bits that should be parented to what they're "sitting" on (IMO) that aren't oO
[20:27] <@Anna> ... Yeah, I'm not even gonna try to fix this, short of completely reconstructing the wings. Which I might do.
[20:27] <~Arcalane> invisible doodads that you'll never see...
[20:27] <~Arcalane> that was the first thing I did - I've cut it back to the original structure
[20:27] <~Arcalane> as in the first preview
[20:28] <@Anna> Seems wise.
[20:28] <%Siber> I just ripped the damn wings off
[20:28] <%Siber> And some of the nose
[20:28] <~Arcalane> and left that butt-ugly nose intact?
[20:28] <~Arcalane> so basically you did what I just said I did
[20:28] <~Arcalane> I'm wiping it back to this stage; http://64digits.com/users/cata100/BFscreen062.png
[20:28] <%Siber> More or less
[20:29] <%Siber> God... it looks so much better without the solid black innards
[20:29] <~Arcalane> yup
[20:29] <%Siber> My version is black where his is red, which turns out reasonably nifty
[20:30] <@Anna> Under my colour scheme, the red and the white swap around. Heh.
[20:31] <~Arcalane> under my scheme it's a white core with grey outlining and pale red instead of bright red :b
[20:31] <~Arcalane> and I feel it necessary to mention that the entire engine block is getting a rebuild, instead of those pansy-ass two nozzles :|
[20:32] <@Anna> Probably a good idea.
[20:32] <%Siber> Good luck
[20:32] <~Arcalane> I'm gonna need it
[20:32] <@Anna> I srsly have no intention of touching that ship, as long as someone else wants to try it. As I said, it's basically just a poor immitation of mine. o_o
[20:33] <~Arcalane> my god there are even completely buried parts
[20:33] <~Arcalane> what the shit
[20:33] <~Arcalane> the depth is screwed up something fierce
[20:33] <@Anna> It's like someone saying "Hey, I can do that too!" and trying to make one of my ships, without the months and months of practicing and refining and learning.
[20:34] <~Arcalane> what the hell, some of this parenting level stuff doesn't even make SENSE
[20:34] <~Arcalane> I've got 200s appearing above 170s
[20:34] <~Arcalane> :psyduck: what the hell did this guy do
[20:35] <@Anna> XD
[20:35] <%Siber> AAAHH
[20:35] <~Arcalane> I KNOW
[20:36] * %Siber shoots beams of fire from his eyes
[20:37] <~Arcalane> completely redundant details that will never be seen!
[20:38] <~Arcalane> even if the ship is being BLOWN TO FUCKING PIECES
[20:38] <%Siber> I... Unwrapping, AAAAAAA
[20:38] <~Arcalane> XD
[20:38] * %Siber isn't even working on the Solaris
Excerpt of IRC discussion relating to the Solaris.

The depthing is fucked up, there are parts you'll never see unless the ship is getting blown to pieces, and the entire thing has far too much outlining.
