I'm giving the remaining judges thirteen days to finish judging the Beauty Pageant, though God only knows why they would need that much additional time. 13 days from now it will have been a full TWO MONTHS since judging began. If it's not finished by then, then I will let the unfinished category (Fleets) go to a public vote, simply to get it over and done with.
Hurray!

Done, save for the BF-Pride class. Can't find a working download and the download I didn't have wouldn't open for anything.

Also fixed all my custom ships scores.

BF-Pride class has already been disqualified anyway, technically. I gave Zeron over a week to reupload it, after the custom database went down. I asked more than once. So it's his own fault, really. :?

Anyway, thanks for finishing your judging, Arca! :D BoVinE, Kenshin, it's down to you two, now.

I think with a broader range of ships, you could have done a lot better, since you only really have 5 unique ships here.

The weapons seem too large for the parts they are placed on, and stick out over the edge, messing with the flow.

I'll just completely ignore those clusters of nano's and deflectors, since I talked to you about it. I like the ships, they hold to conventions of ship

building, but still keeps their originality.

Some of the ships are very nice, but others are break color patterns, and mess with the theme I see.

I believe this is all. If it's anything, my computer and BSF don't work very well together, and whatever Direct Music Audio means, its failing to initialize makes my BSF run at 3 FPS. In fact, if you'd like to know, I found out Wednesday that plugging in my Microphone Headset makes the problem disappear =D. But, that's still not much of an excuse for not getting it done earlier, and I'll take whatever future references to this with a grain of salt.

Comments: When I looked at this ship, I tried to put myself in the creator’s shoes. I can easily see where the concept came from, but in a tournament like this: originality is needed. Done many times before, this particular bird creation failed at certain aspects in comparison with its predecessors. My major issue - the part that really irks me - is the repetitive copy and paste technique used to flesh out the bird. Just in the wings, the same exact piece was used over and over: same section, size, and shape. Also, when using Aegis, you have to realize that the glowing effect really emphasizes the piece, drawing attention. When these pieces are just placed without any design, just to be shields, then it really highlights the bad parts of the ship. Aesthetics: 6/10 for a nice overall look. Originality: at least 5/10 for a... unique overall design. Done to death though. Creativity: 3/10 for repetitive use of pieces. Functionality: 1/5. For half hearted attempt at unique weapons. Feel lucky that you didn’t get 0. The ship CAN’T EVEN FUCKING MOVE in the game.

Comments: WARNING, WARNING: CORRUPTED FILE. REFER TO SCREEN SHOTS. No initial criticisms, so we head straight to the point breakdown. Aesthetics: 6/10 for an above average look, if slightly discombobulated. Originality: Nothing groundbreaking, but atleast never done before, earning a slightly above average 6/10. Creativity: 7/10. Very creative use of pieces. Could have been better in my personal opinion, but creative nonetheless. Functionality: 4/5. Unique role, great ship to play with. Refreshing to have a deflector-less ship once in a while.

Comments: Uhhh... Sure? This looks like somebody’s first creation in the Ship Maker, starting with the oh-so-unoriginal design and ending with the placing of completely and totally random weapons. Aesthetics: 4/10 for not being ugly, even though it’s not actually pretty. Originality: 4/10. After much debate, I finally settled with this just because it isn’t copied, however so little idea was put into its design. Creativity: If randomness was creativity, then this ship would have taken home the gold. Since it isn’t, it settles with 2/10. Functionality: 3/5. This ship was actually pretty fun to play with, if only because of its diverse array of weapons (and it can move!).

Geisberg Fortress by goduranus
--- Aesthetics: 7/10
--- Originality: 8/10
--- Creativity: 6/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 2/5
Total: 29/40
Comments: From humble beginnings, the Geisberg Fortress grew to become one of the most original stations I have yet to see on these forums. What really docked points was the seemingly random placement of filler material: it just would have been that much more beautiful with an intricate layout. However, I thought it was really unique the way that no outer ring section was repeated, giving it that oh-so realistic appearance. Aesthetics: 6/10 for an easily appealing ship, and the randomness of the center did give it that certain quality of mesmerization... Originality: Great concept, beginning with the core layout and ending with the unique design of the outer ring for a nice 8/10. Creativity: 6/10. The overall design could have been much better pulled off with different sections in certain places (especially looking at the filler material). Functionality: Neither tremendously fun nor unique to play with, the lack of secondary weapons really made me disappointed. A 4/5 for the idea of the Zues Cannon, however ugly it is for the few seconds of firing. Backstory: Practically pictures only for a 2/5.

Comments: I would like to compare this piece of art to abstract: however wonderfully constructed and put together it might be, that does not necessarily mean that it is pretty. Really, it all comes down to personal preference. Very, very unique, and its weapons barrage is breathtaking (note: not giant white screen). Aesthetics: Although completely abstract, I felt that the weapons barrage justified my bringing up to an 8/10 score. Originality: Can’t argue with 9/10. Creativity: The one thing really hurting this 7/10 score is the use of those bland, iffy rectangle pieces. Functionality: 2/5. Very... fragile however, as if sudden deceleration would just rip the front right off with kinetic energy. Backstory: 3/5 for a slightly unoriginal backstory, but at least some effort apparent.

Comments: Pleasing to the eye, original design, and excellent use of pieces defines this vessel of war. With overlapping weapons, ablative sections, and exquisite engines and use of boosters, the Norien Elson is a work of art. Really excels at what it is. Aesthetics: Wonderful, a solid 7/10. Not even cluttered with weapons. Originality: However old the concept, this ship’s creator brought it into new light, scoring a 6/10. Creativity: 7/10 for the unique use of abovementioned pieces. Functionality: Solid design and great weapons load out for a 5/5. Backstory: Can we argue a 5/5?

Comments: My immediate thought upon laying my eyes on this ship were memories of Transformers... and specifically so, that of the little parasitic boom box machine. The immense amounts of detail articulated in every square centimeter of those megamechs left me hoping for the same in the Ravana - and I was not disappointed. Just looking along the limbs of the Ravana I see pieces used every other turn to create that exotic, complex feeling. No section was placed without careful, specific attention. Aesthetics: 7/10. I know that it’s a beautiful ship in essence, but then again, this is a pretty subjective contest. I couldn’t really find any actual great attraction towards it: and therefore, it missed out where others gained. Originality: 7/10. I hate to dock off points here, but it just simply looks too much like the IVL ships. Due to this reason it was a 6/10, but then I took into consideration the entire idea of the ship, and I couldn’t give it anything lower than a 7/10. Creativity: This ship’s layout is fucking amazing. Not a single piece was placed that didn’t have a use. 9/10. Functionality: Kinda find it hard to believe that entire portions of the ship could be connected by a single circular joint. 3/5. Backstory: Unique detailing from a unique point of view for a 4/5. Great work!

Total: 28/40
Comments: Unique shape and design, although I didn’t like how the front came out. The coloring could have been better: different utilization of inner sections could have really benefited this ship. However, the coloration DID break up the monotonous nose piece. Aesthetics: What really makes this ship what it is is the coloring. Without that, it would have been lost, and not deserving the 7/10. Originality: Very original, but nothing entirely explosive. 7/10. Creativity: Inside sections could have been better... However, the outside is very well done. 6/10. Functionality: 4/5 Solid as a brick. Backstory: A funny 4/5 =P.

Total: 24.5/40
Comments: My initial thoughts upon seeing this behemoth was that it was a rather unsuccessful attempt at combining two different styles of ship design. When looking at the fuselage of the ship (or rather the main body, given the size of this ship), it reminds me of the Space Shuttles of modern times. The one large body piece seems very out of place with the spiny, jagged pieces on the front and back, and the outcroppings on the side. Some weird layering leading and odd pieces appearing where they shouldn’t really cut down on the potential of this ship. Aesthetics: A 7/10 for being overall pleasing to the eye. Originality: Well, the design is untried, and the use of modules to make the Mjolnir cannon is unique. A 7/10. Creativity: Although the concept was nice, its execution was failed. However, some cool use of pieces in certain places gives it a 5/10. Functionality: 3/5 cause it’s a nice solid design. Backstory: Torn between the two, I gave it a 2.5/5.

Comments: Running right to left, bow to stern, the ship looks very promising... until you get to the tail end, and it all just falls apart. Bad proportioning throughout the ship really throws it off. It just didn’t impress me as much as some of her other ships did. Aesthetics: 5/10, or roughly average. My attention just keeps being drawn towards the tail end! Originality: 7/10. Quite original. In fact, original enough to be copied itself. Creativity: 6/10 for a apparent unwillingness to flesh out the interior. However, that is only on the wings: the rest is nicely laid out. Functionality: Another 4/5, this time for the Velvet Hammer.

Comments: To me, it looks more like a Alpha 3 V-Wing or a Delta 6 or 7 from Star Wars. It just does not look much like the Colonial Viper. Aesthetics: 6/10 for a good looking ship, including colors. Creativity: 5/10. Good use of sections to get the color pattern wanted. Accuracy: Not overly accurate, but just enough to warrant a 5/10. Functionality: 5/10 for a so-so performance.

Comments: Not bad for the basic shape and outline, but I’m afraid the ship fails in the 3D sense of things, specifically using layers. Aesthetics: 6/10 for a so-so appearance. Creativity: 5/10 for average use of pieces. Accuracy: 4/10. DETAILS! Functionality: 6/10 for an average score to top off this ship.

Comments: I have too much of an architect’s eye for things. If the ship is too wide or too narrow, I’d notice it immediately. And in this case, it was way too long (or too narrow, depending how you look at it). However, the depth was done very well, and over all it was very nice. Aesthetics: Well done. 7/10. Creativity: Got down the layering and the depth very nice for a 7/10. Accuracy: Basic outline messed up, but details were done well. 6/10. Functionality: A 7/10 for good effort put in.

Victory II-class Star Destroyer by goduranus
--- Aesthetics: 6/10

Comments: My only real argument is use of sections and layering. Other than that, weird weapons do not fit canonically. Aesthetics: Ever so slightly pleasing, actually, for a 6/10. Creativity: 4/10 for a “meh”ish use of sections and layering. Accuracy: For looks, it scores a 5/10. Functionality: 3/10 for weird weapons.

A fleet is just that, and cannot be fulfilled by five ships alone. However, if “theoretically”, these would be symbols of the fleet, I’d say said fleet would be great =D. As it is, I can’t take points of for not being a full fleet, but I can take points off for the ships not meshing together. Too bad they completely do =P.

Comments: Very unique, with flowing, organic shapes and a soothingly oceanic colour scheme. Another PRO TIP, though. If you’re going with the smooth, organic look, don’t use hard edged or rectangular pieces, especially on the silhouette of the ship (or was that the same tip?). Although the back story wasn’t too good, quite a bit of effort was put into it, and you even had the ship breakdowns later on.

"I was disappointed that there wasn’t much in the way of a fleet, just five ships from theoretic said fleet."

Bloody what? Multiplication? Fleet -simplicity and commonality-? The most functional fleets, IMO, shouldn't have excessively diverse ships, but common weapons systems and designs. A fleet of 100 ships, with only 5 different types of hulls, would be easier to repair and therefore fall back into battle much quicker than a fleet with 10 or more types of ships.

You know, as I think about it, I'm really starting to like the BF-Pride fleet more than the others. I suspect I was to liberal with the points on many of the other fleets.

Also, dang - I deleted my v0.79 directory and lost a bunch of custom ships I had forgotten to take out. Not necessarily an issue, but I only remembered after I rebooted . . . so they aren't in my recycle bin. :?

BF-Pride has been disqualified for weeks now, due to the download being removed from the Custom Ship database quite some time ago, during the crash. I repeatedly asked for it to be reuploaded, and never got a single response.

6 + 6 + 8 + 7 is 27, not 25. Also, doesn't this mark the conclusion of judging? Or is something still out?

It's all done now. I'll wait a day before I tally up all the judging, and then it's finished. :D Finally!

I'm going to rescore the Fleets . . . because I felt I was to liberal with the point allocations.

=============
[---Fleets---]
=============

BF-Pride class:
*Zeron
--- Aesthetics: /10
--- Originality: /10
--- Creativity: /10
--- Functionality: /5
--- Backstory: /5
Total: /40
Comments: **Disqualified**

Dalvitan Authority Fleet:
*Siber
--- Aesthetics: 9/10
--- Originality: 8/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 33/40
Comments: Love it, great design thread, fights fairly well together. I like the color scheme.

Entomeda-Pax Armada:
*ranmafan
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Originality: 5/10
--- Creativity: 5/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 26/40
Comments: Fairly good, mildly original, but not great aesthetically. too many weapons, not very outstanding.

Faladhi Fleet:
*Talhydras
--- Aesthetics: 9/10
--- Originality: 9/10
--- Creativity: 8/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 36/40
Comments: These things are beautiful. A definite sort of surrealist style, especially the later ones. Great points for aesthetics, highly original. Good fleet when put together.

Iryian Navy:
*Fuiste
--- Aesthetics: 5/10
--- Originality: 4/10
--- Creativity: 4/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 22/40
Comments: Looks a lot like Talhydra's fleet, but not as well done. Fleet doesn't look like it fits together well, or really designed for battle. Respectable, at least.

New Eden Fleet:
*goduranus
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Originality: 5/10
--- Creativity: 5/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 26/40
Comments: Well, the fleet works very well together and has great cohesive tactics, but it isn't as pretty and not exceptionally original.

New Terran Defense Force:
*M123
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Originality: 4/10
--- Creativity: 4/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 3/5
Total: 21/40
Comments: An okay group, but not very original and not very specialized. The fleet is not especially cohesive.

Schkrin Extrasolar Navy:
*Tsakara
--- Aesthetics: 8/10
--- Originality: 9/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 33/40
Comments: Colors = epic win. All the ships look like they were made by the same shipyard. Very bio-organic. Don't ask me why I like this one so much, but I guess thye piece repetition looks so much better than any other repetition I've seen that it gets bonus points for beig refreshing. But loses creativity points for piece repetition.

Terran Battlefleet:
*Shenaldrac
--- Aesthetics: 4/10
--- Originality: 4/10
--- Creativity: 4/10
--- Functionality: 2/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 19/40
Comments: Not overly impressive. To much Aegis, to many weapons. Quality over quantity, please. Not as pleasing to the eye as some. good for an early fleet, however.

Third Generation Aralonian Navy:
*Aralonia
--- Aesthetics: 9/10
--- Originality: 7/10
--- Creativity: 8/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 34/40
Comments: Great fleet. Nice style, fleet fits together and has common design thread. However, as with the Elson, not the most original design, but highly styled.

------------------------------

1) Falaldhi Fleet
2) 3rd Generation Aralonian Navy
3) Dalvitan Authority Fleet / Schkrin Extrasolar Navy

Uhh, by my count, Aralonia, you still got the highest points out of all the fleets for me.

Oh, and I sat on my headset and broke it, so now I have to go get a new one =P.
