Okay, I ran some basic tests with the ships (Using the Moth to replace the Howitzer and another Flakbait in place of the Stormwall, and using Daxx' for the missing slot) The test mothership I made eats us alive.
One of the main problems is we don't have fire power for the Flankers. For that reason I think we should stick with the Flak Bait rather than Rebellions Blade, we have plenty of Battleships, we need another flanker to complement the Stormwall and the Gawain.
For Each Ship:
Squair Fonte: This ship is great, not only does its deflectors give it the possibility to shield all 4 sides, but its small threat circle means its one of the last ships to be targeted. Once it is targeted, it still lasts a good long while.
Might want to experiment with weapon loadout a bit, although its not essential.
Flak Bait: I was Tested the original version, which, while fast, was very fragile. I was going to suggest covering more of the front, but it looks like you already did that.
So my only other suggestion is to remove 2 Point Defence turrets and spening 4 points to section buff those two forward sections, since they tend to get blown off too quickly. On the weapons, much as trying to tie up PD is a good thing, flak and particle guns are just too fast for it to be an effective strategy. Perhaps Scatterbeams would work better for your design?
Vordonghe: The Shockbeams are underpowered, their range is too short, and when they do start firing the initial blast is used on deflectors and the secondary, weaker beams barely scratch the Motherships paintjob. Other than that, it's very sturdy, and doesn't go down quietly. 8)
V-class AM Battleship: While 8 of them together is great, 1 alone displays the problem with being slightly underpowered in terms of firepower. I reccomend replaing the two back railguns with either weaselguns or another pair of tachyoncannons. (Or better yet, a TachRepeater. <.<).I would ditch the Lancets too, they are better served on flankers in anycase. Although it isnt as sturdy as some of the other designs, its does make a good weapons platform (just needs more weapons
).
Gawain: Is perfect! ...Okay, on its own it doesn't have enough punch to take out the "wings" of the mothership, which is why we need the Flak Bait and Stormwall. On the plus side, in all tests, it is usually the last to get destroyed, and when all of its beamers manage to target a single section, it can reduce the hitpoints to red very quickly. It just needs some help in finishing the section off.
Daxx' ATM001E: It can take a beating. Although slightly vulnerable to the tachyons, it can weather a storm when the Mothership targets it (usually very early on thanks to its size) Its is a very sturdy ship.
More ships need to use flanking AI. As in... All of them.

Does anyone else think that spreading our loadouts across beam and particle weaponry is less efficient than it could be? We could render all the PD on the Mothership completely irrelevant if we all switched to beam weaponry. It would effectively up our firepower and allow ships that are supposed to tie up PD to contribute towards damaging the Mothership itself.

Seconded. It looked like we were heading in that direction anyway.Daxx wrote:Does anyone else think that spreading our loadouts across beam and particle weaponry is less efficient than it could be? As for Vordonghe, should I switch to all beamers? 10 should make up for their relative weakness, and coupled with other beamships, should pack a punch.
Thanks for running some tests Mr_Wizard.
Okay, I took off the point beams and the two small sections on the sides and used those points to buff the HP of the two huge sections up front. I replaced the Gat pulses with scatter beams (same point values) and I replaced the pointy nose with more square pieces.

Aw crap! :xMr_Wizard wrote:Are there 2 sections I can't see? According to the set you need 12 sections for 4 Deflectors, and I only count 10.
Okay, I have to add those small section back on. :p
EDIT:
Sorry, I forgot about that rule.

I took some HP off of a few sections and added two more. As always I'm open to suggestions.
Rather than add two worthless sections just to fulfill the rule's requirements I tried to make them useful as more shielding material.

just read the review of my ship. a mega techyon is an option(by cutting the 2 lancets) but i think the railguns are needed for something that hurts sections better. any other ideas on what to put on are welcomed. Also can we update the first post to include links to all the entries.
edit: cutting lancers and railguns give 20 points, adding mega tach and 2 weasels cost 15, also dropping 2 sections off the back for extra point. 6 points to put in. what should i put in, 2 beams, gravitic imperder, lancet, gattling blasters
please say what is needed most.
