B5 Forever

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

When I made a search around the forums and saw that in a beauty pagent, I knew I had to turn this thread into mine, since I thought I could do better. I hope the Thread Starter is inspired by my work.

That is the kind of thing I tried to do first. But the fact is we don't always see all the listed weapons in use in the show. B5tech is great for information and numbers, but I don't think I can recreate the feeling of the show following it. Because, for instance, how do we know what's the colour of the beam weapons the primus is supposed to have if we have never watched them in any episode? So I only use B5tech for reference in sizes, number of fighters carried... Anything that is not clear on the show. For everything else, I use the series.

So I think what I will do is equiping it with these four double fast-firing guns (combining upper and lower batteries) and tweak its damage to balance the ship against every other ship in the fleet. And I will add a mass driver to it, just because we have seen it working.

That's the kind of things I was looking for. It's much appreciated. ^-^

Oh and I forgot to mention: thanks for not being too hars
Not being to harsh? your ships are indeed really good for a first fanship. Specially if you think there has been -almost- no section resizing. Creating a ship as complex as those using nearly stock section sizes really shows talent.

Some of my ships really suffer from stretching. Specially the Warlock in its front section. I want to try rotating different sections to achieve the same effect without such a work of resizing, but it will have to wait some days, since real life can be such a pain...

That's the keyword: "Yet". I am sure someone will come after me and create much better models, closer to the ones on the show. Although I admit I love controling the starship creator files of the whole fleet I am working on, since I do not need to get into an argument with anyone. Things are exactly as I want them to. Which doesn't mean I don't accept critizismn. Auriak suggestions really helped me improving the Sharlin, for instance.

Anyway, I don't think the merit is mine, but of the amazing tool you have provided us with. It is extremely easy to use with the keyboard, capable of almost complete customization of any of the parts forming your creation, and featuring vital options like changing your background to have a blueprint to build something over it.

Interesting, one of the narn ships midway through shoots a PD weapon :)

Might want to add one now to your ships! :) and thanks for the compliments.

Seen. I think we can assume 3-4 PD guns on the surface of the ship, given symetry.

In order to not to alter balance significatively, if included, they will have a rather slow reload rate -but not a bad clipsize and firerate- it will make the G'quan much more viable in combat.

As far as I know, most ships in the B5 universe do have point defense weapons. The problem with this is these are not usually seen on the show, so we can't know where are they located, or how do they look like. If you can find any other indication on the show of point defense guns -or any other weapon- don't forget to let me know.

Until then, The Victory Class destroyers and the Narn G'quan will be the only ships with PDGuns.

That's cool with me. Logically it makes sense but you're right, most times they focused on the big splashy effects, which usually involved the splashy main guns.

On a side note... I tried making a vree ship last night and it came out to be a disaster. Had to clear that template. Maybe some other time :P

Ah.. more stuff.
This one demonstrates PD on EFA vessel.. can't' remember which one it is.. looks like an omega/warlock hybrid?

Youtube is a wealth of b5 info. Use the above to link off to other battles which show other ships. I even used one to confirm th15's info on the Vree shredder - it definitely has a greenish rapid fire projectile feel.

The ships at proxima 3 were mostly omegas. And the weapons they used are already implemented in the ship. It's just I considered them to be too big to be devoted only to PointDefense, and used blasters for them, so these weapons can be used offensively.

I have updated the point defense weapons in the G'Quan and improved some overstretched parts of the front of the warlock. These new verisions of the ships will be avaliable in the next release.

Doubleposting because of another ship has been added to the fleet:

DOWNLOAD THE UPDATED FLEET HERE:

The Interstellar Alliance Victory Class Destroyer preview version has been finished. This version does NOT feature the main gun, since I have not received instructions from the DeathStar Laser creator. It features all its regular weapons, which pack a decent punch, however.

As usually, the downloadeable file includes all ships in the fleet. Some minor changes include damage tweeking to the Vorchan, the addition of Point Defense guns in the G'Quan, and cosmethic changes to the Warlock, so don't forget to overwrite your previous files for the fleet.

Update!

A new ship has been added to the fleet: The Primus Class Battlecruiser from the Centauri Republic.

Image

Please note this verision of the ship is sightly (about 1.5cm) larger than it should, in order to be in a perfect scale with the rest of the fleet. I considered it not a big enough difference to rebuild it, since I might have caused bigger differences with the scaling of the source material.

If you want me to redo it nevertheless, I might consider it.

as always, here is the download for you to enjoy. It includes the whole fleet.

The Shadow Battlecrab has been renamed to "Shadow Battlecrab (typeC)". This allows me to create the bigger battlecrabs in the future. It has also been rebalanced to be able to be destroyed with standard weaponry, since it is the smaller shadow capital ship, and we saw some of these being destroyed in the show by ships of the Alliance with the help of telepaths.

So please, delete the previous "Shadow Battlecrab" file and use the new "Shadow Battlecrab (typeC)" file from now on, please.

Any suggestion for new ships? Vree Xill saucer? Vree Xorr saucer? Brakiri cruiser? Drazi Sunhawk? Drazi Skyserpent? Raider Battlewagon? What would you preffer to have next?

As usual, some shots of the current fleet in scale:

Sweet.

One thing thouvgh, the warlock isn't symetrical. it's "docking bay area" on the opposite side is different, the rear half is cut off. Also, it's forward guns seem a bit weak...

edit: mabye that's jsut becasue you based them off piddly mining beams....

As for next ship to make... Nova alpha plz!!!!!

For the most part the weapons aren't customized because otherwise those two beam cannons on the front of the Warlock (Known as the Aegis Cannons, also used on the G.O.D. Platforms) would have to be powerful enough to obliterate a Sharlin in one shot.

Funny thing is, I'm not kidding...
