First line Battleship of the NCDF

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

First line Battleship of the NCDF

Post by Salvofire »

Hello all, here comes a random ship from my direction. I give to you the Fenrir class Battleship of the New Colonial Defense Force. I stole Siber's color scheme since I love it so much. I hope it's ok with you Siber.

Weaponry:

8x Hyperion VI turrets
Each of these turrets houses two Hyperion VI cannons. These complicated weapons fire packets of charged particles brought to the target by a high energy beam. The effect is astonishing. The beam melts armor and serves as a means of delivery for the charged mass of particles. These particles smash into the enemy hull, sending opposing matter in all directions, thus creating an explosion like effect. Although the first few hit may not seem to do much damage, enemies of the Fenrir soon realize the effectiveness of this weapon as the next shot punches straight through the weakened armor and begins detonating inside the ship.

The housing for the turret houses mostly rotors and the like to rotate the assembly but also contains a missile launcher to fire designated Mark II plasma rockets. However, because of size restrictions the ammunition must be loaded from below and thus it's rate of fire is quite low.

8x "Death rack" missile packs
Self explanatory

6x Reaper defense cannons.
Close range cannons designed to defend the parts of the ship that the Hyperion cannons cannot reach.

6x Point Defence turrets.
Designed to intercept enemy projectiles and debris.

The Fenrir floating in deep space:

And finally the Fenrir firing on some asteroids over Aquious to clear shipping lanes. (Sensor malfunction set off automatic shield system.)

Any useful comments/suggestions appreciated.

I assume that is ablative armouring in blue. I suggest you bring it in so it hugs the hull much more and is smoother in profile.

It looks pretty sweet. Can we get a download? I'd love to see how it fares in combat!

I like it. Though it looks a little bit brickish as it is . . . but if you layered more different colors through the body, you could make it look like it's building up.

Also, do the dual-railgun turrets rotate as a unit? Or do the railguns simply move independently? I don't know how managing the former would work, but it would look rather neat.

I imagine you could just give all the weapons in the 'turret' the same range and firing arc, so the chances would be that they're all locked onto the same target at once.

Example:

If they all shot at the same target, you'd get the top one. But the bottom one is what I'm talking about achieving . . . making the whole stuck-together turret rotate as one unit.

That's not possible I think, the weapons would have to actually move, and not rotate, which I don't think is possible (yet).

Yeah they move independently but the arc is small enough that it generally looks good.

I'll put a download up as soon as I un-lazy, possibly tomorrow.

Thanks for the comments, I'll experiment with some colors and bringing in the outer armor some.

Siber's colour scheme again...

NEVER MIND, IT'S not too bad. Weapons aren't too shabby or overpowered either. And the armour on the outside looks a little out of place. Move it in closer.

with new streamlined armor:

I'm thinking about starting a fleet off of this, each ship with a specific purpose. Maybe cut off some turning and speed on this ship to make it more of a sniper. While my destroyer will probably be more of a get up in your face ship.

Also in an unrelated matter, SNOW DAY!!! I love procrastination, it always wins through for me.

I would add some thrusters to the back end, it's screaming for some thruster goodness to go with the glowing red "engine" boosters.
