The Ships of the Conflicting Factions Universe

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

The Ships of the Conflicting Factions Universe

Post by Normandy »

Dowload Here

These are the ships of the Conflicting Factions Universe, a role-play started by me (Click Here to Join). The game's currently in pause due to small rule changes that I'm making. I have made this shipset in hopes of attracting more players, providing backstory for the ships, and showing off my ShipMaker skillz. Hehe.

However, these ships are not in any way involved in combat in Conflicting Factions - I didn't feel like balancing my entire game around them. You can make big fleets out of them, take a screenshot, and call it your fleet (I actually may do that since making it a text document takes forever). Also, these ships aren't designed to be used in small numbers. The smallest you should go is 5 frigates.

--------------------

Image
The Corvette is a small ship used for reconnaissance and quick, coordinated strikes against targets that don't necessarily need to be destroyed, but need to be damaged. When it is armed with rockets and a cloaking device (not included in shipset), it is a fearsome foe to behold (for smaller ships). However, larger fleets do not really have much need for corvettes, since destroyers are much more effective at taking out small ships.

Image Image
The Frigate stands as the most useful of the smaller ships (aside from Destroyers). They provide great, highly mobile firepower to any battle situation, and can be equipped with missiles. These missiles are how larger fleets usually use frigates, since frigates are very fast and can do hit-and-run attacks on capital vessels, and quickly retreat to reload. Shown is the normal frigate and one with missile compliments.

Image
The Destroyer Escort is the transition from small, highly mobile ships to the more traditional ships, such as Cruisers. They retain aspects of their smaller brethren, but are much closer to it's bigger brother, the Destroyer. Destroyer Escorts are right in the speed where they can quickly respond to an attack from any direction, but still heavy enough to take a beating. They are usually used in escorting carrier escorts or lower-value merchant convoys for this reason.

Image Image Image
The Destroyer serves as the workhorse of any fleet. This is the ship one will find in greatest numbers in large fleets. They have the important duty of destroying smaller ships and fighters that could outmaneuver the capital ships. In smaller fleets, destroyers serve as flagships, as they give a really good bang for your buck. You will rarely ever see Destroyers by themselves however, as against larger ships they are nearly completely powerless (unless they have torpedoes) and are not really effective against small ships unless the small ships are attacking other targets (such as capital ships). Shown is the normal variation, the assault variation (the middle one), and one with torpedo compliments.

Image Image Image
The Cruiser is the transition from small, NCO commanded ships to the capital ships. They are depended on the most by any fleet. They are most often used to hunt down escaping ships, such as torpedoing ships or damaged vessels, or to provide covering fire for the rest of the fleet. Shown is the normal variation, the armored type, and the light type.

Image
The Battlecruiser is a majestic ship. Sleek yet powerful, extremely sturdy yet not unwieldy, Battlecruisers dominate the battlefield. More cost efficient than their heavier brethren, the Battleship, yet just as much firepower. Many navy admirals choose to lead from Battlecruisers rather than Battleships.

Image Image
The Battleship is the pinnacle of navy technology. It is loaded with powerful weapons and armor that will bring it through nearly every situation imaginable. Although not as strong as the Dreadnoughts, Battleships still stand as the main ship used in sieges and assaults as they have the flexibility to react to any situation down below on the ground. Shown is the normal variation and one with rocket compliments.[/b]

Very interesting indeed. I like how your ships are extrapolated from one to the next, building up from the Corvette to the Destroyer. A very interesting design idea indeed!
I knew it! Ageis DOES taste like Vanilla!

*Cough* ~bump.

Aw man you guys are so mean =C.

--------------------

Weapons Employed by the Conflicting Factions Universe:

Particle Cannons (Gatling, Heavy Versions) - GatPulse, Pulse
Particle Cannons are as basic you can get in terms of weaponry. Good ROF, fair accuracy, and small projectiles means that these are perfect for taking out very small or specific targets, quickly. The original version of the Particle Cannon is hardly used anymore - only the multi-barreled and the heavy versions are still in any use. The heavier version does more damage at greater accuracy, while the gatling version puts out a lot of shot.

Gauss Cannons (Normal, Gatling Versions) - Blaster, GatBlaster
Gauss Cannons are the next step up from Particle Cannons. They have the third highest DPS in the game (only MegaBeamers and Heavy MegaBeamers have higher DPS). Especially with the GatBlaster, these guns put out a lot of hurt - good accuracy, fast traveling shots, and large damage puts your opponent in a world of hurt.

Charge Cannons - Plasma
Charge Cannons are the final step up from Gauss Cannons. They do not do much more damage specifically, but instead have "splash" damage. They do slightly lower DPS than Gauss Cannons, but are far more useful against larger ships.

[To be finished]

Your small ships are fine, but to be honest, the structure and weapons layout on the bigger ones (especially battleship and battlecruiser) feels too random/uniform. Maybe custom color scheme could help.

Random/Uniform?

Alright, I'll get working on a color scheme...

I don't know how to explain it better :|

Lets just say that internal sections look random, and weapons are orginized yet there seems to be no logic behind their placement, they look like just uniformly distributed around the hull. Take a look at how Exathalion places weapons on his bigger ships.

Well of course the sections are random - I lay claim that I have no two repeating pieces within 3 pieces of eachother (other than mirrored parts). Makes for a much more interesting ship, in my opinion. You can't look at it section by section, you've got to look at it as a whole. Each section blends in with the next, creating a seamlessly designed, much more organic looking ship. At least in my opinion.
The weapons are uniformly distributed because of this - you can see the patterns better.

Heh. I sleep late ^.^

Ah, the way you put it Kaelis... You make me sound so... close-minded. *Sob*. Anyways...

@CF Players:
I'll update the tick tomorrow. It takes like ~30 minutes to write the news reports, and my fingers are starting to get tired (computer, piano, bass, computer, piano, homework, rest, dinner, piano, computer).
