Halo Ships

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Halo Ships

Post by Alreadyunder »

Hey guys, im working on a fleet of ships to represent the covenant to fight my UNSC lot with and i can't for the life of me think how to represent the plasma turrets properly.

The obvious choice would be the Plasma Turret, but i find the projectiles are shot down by point defense FAR too easily.
Tachyon doesn't work either, for the same reason, is there a way of making projectiles immune to PD? (I'd remove PD alltogether, but that would make the archer missles on my UNSC fleet WAY OPed.)

Also, a way of representing covvie shields would be nice, at the moment im using masses of impeders but its, ugly.

Thanks, and pics if you help ;)

There isn't a way to make projectiles invulnerable within the shipmaker, but what you can do instead is to set the weapon clipsize to about 3 or 4, firerate 0, shot deviancy to 0, and the reload time to something you find reasonable. What you'll get is the visual effect of a slightly longish version of the chosen projectile, which is in actual fact is the 3 or 4 projectiles stacked tightly together. This means that enemy PD will have to work that many times harder to totally stop it. Except against flak, because of its area of effect damage.

As for the shields, what you can do is make series of very very thin pieces (almost, if not actually invisible) and string them out around the ship in a bubble or whatever shape for the shield you desire. Then, you can set them to a high hp level to simulate one-time standard shields, or you can protect them with a aegis module. Hope this helps!

Hmm, i tried the small section shield idea and it worked great. Until beamers fired at it.

Then the screen freezes and you have to ctrl alt del to leave the game.
Any reason we can think of for that?

I used several of the largest piece i could find that would turn invisible once minimized, increased HP to 600 and used them to surround the ship. They were all parented to one another save one which went to the core. (Unfortunately i couldnt get a full parenting circle, don't have the 3.0 Shipmaker so i can't reassign parents.)

High charity you say?
From what angle, above or the side, no reason why i couldnt give it a shot once i finish the Pillar of Autumn.

This is what i have up so far, top left is the CCS Class Battlecruiser, Bottom left a Covenant Frigate.

Top right is a UNSC frigate and bottom left is a UNSC Destroyer. (There was no Canon on this bar a comment saying 'it looks a bit like the halo missile pod' and some guys lego model, hope it looks halo ish enough for you guys :))

I included the parenting on the covenant two so you can possibly spot why the shields mess up, and the piece i used. High Charity is still WIP, as is the POA and so aren't featured. Enjoy!

Shields should be linked directly to whatever's behind it, not to the system in the back.

Say again? I wanted these shields to all crash at once, thats why their in a massive circle, if thats what you meant.

Also, i have noticed all the scatterbeams on the frigate are linked to the core, OOPS. Its been fixed :)

That still won't work effectively. If you want a decent system for doing this I suggest you check out Cerebrus' bubbleshield here. Your system relies on that particular piece being killed in order to take out the entire shield; Cerebrus' takes out the entire shield when just one bit goes down.
