Esprit-class Battlecruiser

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Esprit-class Battlecruiser

Post by Raithah »

Not exactly my first, but the first ship I've made in a month and a half. I'm a little rusty :).

The Esprit is a true-blooded battlecruiser - it fits perfectly between battleships and ... whatever it is comes after that. Anyways. Performance wise, it can hold its own against a Cronus or two - or alternatively, wipe out very large fleets of destroyers. Triple front-mounted continuous beams can shred through weaker armor, while rear-mounted gattling guns overwhelm PD for others in it's fleet. In essence, it's a group-ship that performs best with a little backup.
Add to cart.

I was always under the impression that the battlecruiser designation fell to ships with the heavy merchant raider design philosophy, sometimes also known as pocket battleships I think, but basically it was to mount the firepower of a battleship on a hull as quick as a cruiser (generally sacrificing armour to achieve this), the philosophy being it could outrun anything it couldn't outgun.
If you make it idiot proof, they'll just build a better idiot.

In that case, it'd probably be more of a freighter. Story-wise it's supposed to be a VIP escort ship developed with non-military technology (e.g. armor isn't powerful, no shields, etc.).
