Going with this not adelbert's because getting close to a large, armored, spiked creature when we excel at range strikes me as poorly thought out. Keep at him, eat when necessary and avoid his spiky bits. Even if it becomes a battle of attrition we'll win it as long as he can't land a hit.
true but clearly i forgot to mention that with my strategy we shouldn’t anchor at all (so we would blast our self out off harm sway each shot)

Well your right adelbert60 thats a pretty good stradegy if it comes to it. As long as we are firing we might as well be changing position at the same time, unless it spins us out of control or something.

That works I suppose. Either way is fine really, assuming things work out the result will be the same.

You keep firing at the cell, trying to get it in the face while it's shield is down. And yet, it keeps interposing it's armor between your slime and it's soft internals. And charging you afterwards. And so it goes... You fire, he blocks, he charges, you dodge, you fire, he blocks, he charges, you dodge. The pattern of combat reaches such a rhythmic pattern that it could be called a dance of aggression.
No matter how close you get to fire, he manages to block. And no matter how he maneuvers you when he charges, you dodge. And so it goes, back and forth, until you even manage to reach the edge of the forest, and even leave it.

One of the screens the beings observed was focused on what appeared to be a battle that could go on forever. A blue cell covered in yellow fluids, the one they'd been following, locked in combat with a dense black specimen with glaringly bright spikes. Calculating, one of them reached for a button, to throw an additional element into the experiment. The others in the room wavered their feelers, and promted the ceasing of the activity. And progress towards the button stopped, and the beings returned to the monitors.

Well if we're pissing off the scientists lets keep doing it. It may not be good for us but it could be dwarf fortress style fun.

This thing has to breath/open it's mouth, right? So, let's fill the water around it with slime, so next time it opens it's shell it gets slimed.

Sorry again for another delayed update today.
Probably won't be the last delayed update, either, but after today we should be delay free for a while.

You decide that this battle is going no-where fast, and unleash as much slime as possible.
So much, infact, that it's actually kinda draining (-4 DNA, -1 hp). This has the first effect of obscuring the water, leaving such a thick yellow haze that you're having trouble seeing, although you can still hear your opponent thrashing about. The second effect is making the water slippery, making it easier to maneuver through. A third effect is not so obvious... But when you glimpse your opponent through the slime, you see that it's armor has more than a dent where you've hit it. You've drilled a full blown hole through it's armor, puncturing it's skin.
You then make a few more passes at each other, in the continued pattern of charge, dodge, spray, deflect, charge, dodge, spray, deflect. But as it keeps it's armor over it's currently useless eyes, and the slime obscures your vision, both of you suffer the handicap of inaccuracy. If you could hit it in the hole you've drilled again... but you keep missing, missing, missing.

Eat some plant, or rock, or something thats close by and edible. At the same time we be drawing it out of the Slime Cloud.
Sorta like a Steam Cloud, but it uses less bandwidth ;)
Then once we be less hungry, we fire at its hole.

Hmm... Eat, then stay still and wait for it to charge. The moment it gets close, dodge and fire at the weak spot, hopefully hitting it point blank.

You dive down to the ground, munching on some rocks to keep from starving (5 DNA). You then do what you've been doing most of this entire battle: wait for it to charge, dodging when it gets close, firing point blank, and trying to get it in that weak spot.
You miss it again, but get pretty close. You decide that not being able to see all that well is detrimental to you, and start to keep moving towards the edge of the slime cloud. After three charge-dodge-slime cycles, the charge finally bursts out through the edge of the slime cloud. You fire, being able to see so much better, and get it, right in the hole you drilled.
your opponent shudders when you hit it, then turns towards you, spines bristling. It takes another charge at you, actually glancing you with it's spikes, which being barbed, hurts like h***. The thing's still alive, although how you don't know. You slime beam could have felled so many beasts...
Although it's ragged motions may be a clue as to it's status.

Stay far, far away from it. Take potshots at it when possible but avoid it like the plague because that's what it has so it won't be around for much longer and there's no point in letting it hit us before it goes.

Yeah. Make our main priority defense, using slime jets to dodge, taking potshots only when there's no chance of getting hit back.

Agree with the above posts, stay at range and make not getting hit a bigger priority.

You swim away from the beast, letting your poison do it's work. It still attempts to follow and charge you, but you use your slime jets to a good effect, keeping away, and occasionally taking a pot shot.
Finally all motions from the beast cease, being finished off and dead. You swim down to it's corpse, only to discover: You can't chew through it's armor, the hole is too small to fit your mouth, and with all it's overlapping shields up, you can't reach the cream filled center. Not to mention all those spikes making the job of reaching the armor in the first place difficult.
And you want to eat it so badly, after that battle. You. want. it....!
