i think we need to go and hunt for fresh prey as well. indicate to our clone to follow us, pick a random direction and see what we find

You feel conflicted, deciding whether to work on improving communications between your own species, this small, slimy species, or go run off to find new prey.
Your problem becomes simpler when you notice your clone has swam off, obviously making his own decision to go off and hunt new prey. You decide that, since you can no longer try and improve communications in your own species, and your clone has gone to hunt new prey, the remaining option is to try talking with the slimy cells. You swim up to them, noting that they are arguing over the name of some sort of spread-out red plant, with some sort of purple orbs in it. One seems to be trying to call it a "Roo'ud", while the other wants to call it a "wee'ood". Deciding that the first sounds easier to pronounce, you insert your opinion, agreeing with the one trying to call it "Roo'ud". The other seems to get the point, but then counters with "Rue-ed".
If they can't agree, you think you may just give up and swim off, but you stick to it. Eventually, you all agree on "Ruegga" (+1 DNA). You then observe how they then turn to the rocks around the plant, and the argument starts again.

meh, what silly creatures, I vouch that we swim away from these squabblers and see if there is more prey in these forests.

You turn away from the pair, deciding that perhaps creating a cross-species language isn't going to be as easy as you thought. The two cells do follow you, though, or at least the trail their following, naming things, coincides with the path you're taking looking for prey. You then spot something...
You dart into the clearing in which you spotted movement, only to find nothing there. Out of the corner of one of your eyes, you see something moving again, and zip towards it, only to find whatever it was isn't there. Or...
One of the slimy cells comes out from the bushes on the edge of the clearing, deciding if you're friend or foe. It's not one of the two you just left, judging by the big lump of sharp rock sticking out of it's wound, but perhaps there's something nearby to stick something like that into the cell? If something's managed to figure out tool use, that could be pretty scary... but if it was in some sort of cave in or something, than there's nothing to fight!
You also feel some pressure, having processed a lot of your food pretty well by now.

you are about to split involuntarily, if you don't split on your own.

Let's get some of those useful little things that've never quite made it because they were always on the bottom of the list.
Algae net (3)
Cold resistance (2)
Tinted eyes (4)
Photosynthesis (6)
Accelerated Reproduction (4) - Did we get this last time or not? I don't remember if it actually happened.
Regenerative (3) assuming it stacks.
Total (22)

After that, turn on infrared and see if we can spot the invisible thing. If we do and it doesn't look too dangerous, let's blow it up.

You steal the initiative from your own bodily functions, and split.
Once your DNA stops it's spastic protests, you realize you've got a bunch of thin wiry things hanging off of your belly, sort of woven together, wiggling, absorbing the latent strands of algae in the water around you, although there really isn't much algae around. You're also apparently feeling warmer, generating a sort of internal body heat, making you resistant to the cold.
You note that you're vision's darkened, which helps you out, as you are still gripping that glowing crystal. You're also absorbing the light from the crystal, too, or maybe just all ambient light, having become slightly more plant like, able to "eat" light, regenerating faster, and having an accelerated reproductive system.
You then pull the rock out of the slimy cell, thinking of naming it, but deciding overall that it's not time to name it. The rock definitely seems to have been sharpened, grooves displaying where it was banged against another rock, smoothed areas where it was eaten away by acid. And by hefting it, you notice it's quite light, hollowed out, and very aerodynamic, very similar to your missile spines. You activate your infrared vision, looking for whatever may have used such a rock. Your eyes show no nearby heat, though, except for the slimy cell suffering from a gaping hole from this rock. Which must've been thrown by a "rocker" (+1 DNA) a while ago, and this slimy cell's been fleeing for a while.

you have 9 hp
you have 21 stomach (+1 from photosynthesis)
you have 1 DNA, 1 GDNA (+1 DNA from ^)

I've got to say, why the hell didn't we get photosynthesis sooner? +1 food and DNA each turn is very useful (though slimy could use it more than us since he's always bloody starving).
Anyway, we need more DNA to get all the cool stuff now available. Eat everything in sight (except the slimy cell) and then keep moving and eating. If we see anything that doesn't look too dangerous, kill and eat it. If we see anything that does look too dangerous, kill and eat it. If we get full, vomit a bit then kill and eat it (but not really, don't eat your own poop as it'll probably make you sick).

i second eating everything in sight, but i think we should look after the injured slimy by bringing it some food and protecting it. it would be useful to have an ally of a different species, and also means that it can lead us to whatever cell threw that rock at it for some good hunting

Ooh good thinking, we can make species A our slaves :D (or alternatively our allies, either works I suppose). I see no way in which this could go wrong.
