Lunarian Foreign Legion

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

The Flag of Lunaria</center>
Among the four main houses present in the Aria Phi system, the Orbital Citizen's Union of Lunaria is the most radical in ideology, as well as the most overtly militant, though not in an imperialistic fashion like the Commonwealth. It is a socialist democracy that openly maintains a cybernetically and genetically enhanced populace, much to the chagrin of the somewhat conservative Republic of Terra Noveaux.

History
The First Solar War was sparked by the Lunarians' very arrival to the system; In the year 86SD, an unusually large, unidentified warship arrived in the system and set a course for Luna, the only moon of planet Terra Noveaux. The warship made planetfall in force, unleashing its full complement of ground forces on the unprepared moon. This ship was later revealed to be the sleeper ship Lunaria, which was the second ship to depart from Earth and the third to arrive in Aria Phi. The first ship to arrive was the Brittany, and the second was the Terra Noveaux.

The war raged on for ten years, centering around the debacle between Lunaria and Terra Noveaux over the rightful ownership of Luna. Lunaria's forces proved victorious for quite some time, owing to their well-prepared, cybernetically enhanced forces as well as the element of surprise in general. However, the Commonwealth of Brittany soon intervened with its far larger battlefleet, forcing the war to grind to a halt and a treaty to be signed. During the peacetime, the Lunarians have forged a stable nation on Luna and colonized the planet Prague and its two moons, Étude and Bygeniou. However, the relationship between Lunaria and the Terrans has always been tenuous at best, and incredibly vitriolic at worst.

The Lunarians joined forces with the RUC during the Second Solar War, which was sparked by the destruction of a transport called the RTN Liberty, widely known as the Liberty Incident. A heated, wide-scale conflict broke out across the star system, and was the first time that humanity's space forces were put to any good use. Lunaria developed the first Dual Action Propulsion System in response to the growing need for maneuverable warships that could cross interplanetary distances in a short period of time, which gave them a huge advantage in the early stages of the war. However, due to Chancellor Karel Werfel's inept management of the nation's economy, the RUC lost interest in maintaining a mercenary pact with Lunaria and subsequently turned on them, but not without with a significant tithe from the Terrans (12,000,000,000 universal credits by some accounts).

The war ended quickly in 621SD, with a clear victory for the allied Terran and Commonwealth forces. Lunaria has been recovering from the aftermath of the war for some time now, and the process of recovery has only been delayed by Terra's refusal to assist the scarred nation in rebuilding their economy.

As A Nation
Culturally and ethnically, the Orbital Citizen's Union of Lunaria represents the descendants of the denizens of the Earth's Moon. The nation continues the Moon's long-standing tradition of a highly progressive democracy, although this time with a highly socialized economy and welfare structure. All are considered equal under Lunaria's banner, and economic monopoly by any singular party is strongly discouraged.

The government constantly attempts to equalize the living conditions of all of its citizens, not only economically, but physically. Since the nation intends to continue the Moon's tradition of widespread cybernetic and genetic enhancement, it must supply each and every citizen with a standardized enhancement package, which has proven difficult due to the nation's poor economy in general. It should be noted, however, that such enhancements have long held a deeply set ethical stigma among the denizens of Earth; Terra Noveaux has used this as a cassus belli to launch skirmishes against Lunaria, with no small amount of republican vigour.

It is because of this that Lunaria has granted an exclusive trade permit to the Ryukyu Umbrella Corporation, although their relationship is purely economic-- the RUC are regarded with ambivalence in diplomacy, partially since their cash-hungry economic monopoly is not something that Lunaria's constitution supports.
Lunaria's main exports are cybernetics, gene theraphy and "Spice", a highly addictive psychoactive drug that is the pristine form of the orally-taken memory enhancement that is commonly used in Lunaria. The first two exports are banned and highly frowned upon in Terra Noveaux and the Commonwealth due to the deeply set ethical stigma associated with transhumanism, and is only openly traded with the RUC. The third import is illegal in all four houses, and is discreetly traded by the organized crime ring known only as the Purple Haze, which operates from an unknown location in the Lunarian portion of the Gier Asteroid Belt.

Lunaria's seat of government resides on Luna, which just happens to be the moon of Terra Noveaux's capital planet. It is here that the Lunarian Parliament is held every week, where the representatives of the people discuss the nation's future and address the specific complaints forwarded by the nation's citizens. The nation in general is led by an elected Head of Parliament, or "Chancellor", who has the final say in important decisions and lends direction to the nation's government. The nation's current ruler is Chancellor Ansel Mordred, who has ruled since 650SD and will be cycled out in 655SD. The citizens generally consider Mordred to be one of the nation's more capable chancellors, though he has rejected the parliament's proposal that his term in office be extended.
Of the nation's previous chancellors, Chancellor Karel Heimlich Werfel is the most famous, mainly for the way he led the the Lunarians through most of Solar War II. He was an excellent strategist but a poor economist; he quickly wore out the nation's coffers with his demanding game plans and expensive warship designs, resulting in the war's quick closure in 621SD.

The Lunarian Foreign Legion
The Lunarian Foreign Legion was originally formed on Terra during Solar War II, to help defend the territories that Lunaria had captured during the conflict. It was composed mainly of convicted criminals, Terran deserters, and veterans from other Lunarian units. The Legion was once exclusively a ground unit, though hard times forced them to take to the skies and eventually to space. They mainly commandeered reserve vessels during fleet battles, serving as cannon fodder in the final stages of the war.

Nowadays, the Legion is considered one of the most prestigious volunteer units in the solar system, due to its long-running history and its large compliment of experienced SWII veterans. It is comprised of six chapters; three ground force chapters, and three spaceborne chapters. Each of these chapters holds a unique oath, though the code of honor for the entire Legion still applies. "Legionnaire: you are a volunteer serving Lunaria faithfully and with honor. Every legionnaire is your brother in arms," and so on and so forth. The Legion is now equipped with some of the Lunarian Navy's best equipment, commandeering formshell-equipped warships bristling with rapid-fire pulse beams.

[facemelt]Beautiful...[/facemelt]

I like the canister thingies on the wings and side, as well as the blue glow.

I wanna say it looks cluttered... but the shape is so nice that its hard for me to say this.
On mules we find two legs behind
and two we find before.
We stand behind before we find
what those behind be for.

Sexy-smexy!

Two things I don't really like:

-Three asymmetric parts in the front, they clash with the symmetric design of the ship.
-Autocannons? On such a übertech ship? Couldn't you mount blackpowder cannons, or ballista's?

Top three of things I really like:

-Orange bands near wingtipsand front prongs. That's the best use of those sprites I've seen so far.
-All those circle-thingies near the core. They look really functional
-The 'hinge' mechanic looking objects at the front of the wings.

It is nice, although a little bit too detailed for my taste. I actually like the touch of asymmetry and more would make the over-detailed look better I think. Good use of Ixr05s. Custom weapons, less protrusions on the rear of the wings, and an explanation of what the hell gets shot out from where that fraxy-beam tip is sticking out would all be things to consider.

Blaargh!, another fine ship from our legendary battlecarrier addict.

If this is a new lunarian vessel, RUC's gonna have it hard.

Overall, very pleasing to the eye, but not much of a bold venture for you designwise. I love the asymmetric features on the front, they make the ship stand out and save it from being too similar to your other ships, they look great especially because you put them infront of a glow. The gradientation is a bit excessive. It looks purpose built at the cost of flexibility, like the entire fucking thing is built to churn out some sort of death ray / spew out swarms of fighters. Am I right?

This thing's gonna be awesome to pit ships against.

Love it, especially the asymmetrical sections, buuuut... I do think there's just an overload of fuelrods, it makes 'em lose their awesomeness (a bit XD). Do love the core-circly things.

I don't like the three diagonals toward the front. Other than that, holy fucking ship. Absolutely amazing.

Meticulous placement of doodads, as far as I can see all their positions are precise and they all face the right direction too.

Must have taken a lot of time to do.

Love it, except for one thing. I really don't like the wing shape.
The triangular sections behind the wings make it look kind of feathery, which doesn't fit with the rest of the ship, and if the triangles weren't there, it'd be too sharp and flat. Besides that, the wing could easily look a lot better, maybe curved from both front and back, or larger and raking forwards or something entirely different, because as they are now, I find they ruin (in so far as it can be ruined) the ship.
It's still great though.
