The Ships of Normandy [WIP]

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

The Ships of Normandy [WIP]

Post by Normandy »

Anyone who references a city in France shall be dealt with severely.

Anyways...

For those of you who are too new to have experienced one of my ships, I assure you that you have been missing out on a lot. For those of you old enough to remember my old ships, you may be asking why I have to make this speech every time I come out with a new fleet. I say, boredom is a powerful motivator.

Once again, I digress.

------------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT NOTICE: After being enlightened as to exactly why my ships glow orange in-game, I have come to fix the problem. My ships are designed to be viewed with pure black glows (well, 1, 1, 1 glows).

DOWNLOAD HERE

You may notice a subfolder 'Mechanicals', and might think that they're a single faction, but that'll just serve as a sorting mechanism, so all ships that have 'mechanical' feels will go into the mechanical folder.

The 0x8A4B0F (Better known as the Sequoia class Heavy Bombardment Gunboat, for the color the 24-bit address results in) is the culmination of years of development by the Mechs. It has already served in numerous conflicts, showing it's great strength as an area-denial ship and long-range support ship.

The 0x0x0566EE960 (Better known as the Sequoia-36, as the color it results in if put in 36-bit viewing mode) is part of the so-called 'next-gen' spaceships of the Mechs. Developed in only a few months after the original Sequoia, it has remained untested in battle, but very sound in theory. Many AIs still choose to pilot the old Sequoia-24s, but the government has enstated many bills that would seriously penalize these AIs for not 'conforming with current trends'...

The F-144 "Skywalker" class Assault Frigate doesn't harbor the newest imperial technology, nor the biggest guns. However, it still remains an incredibly reliable ship that's used in many a conflict. Compared to similar sized ships from other factions, the Skywalker is a fairly slow craft, but very well armored. Like the majority of the other craft designed by the Imperials, it is mainly designed for broadside, but has a powerful forward-mounted laser cannon that can cut through most ships like hot knives through butter (I have replaced the beamer with a shockbeamer).

The Aavinairia is the flagship and most longed for possession of any Organic being, so long as they are able to convert themselves to a pure energy form and manifest themselves in the glowing vein-computers of the Aavinairia. These ships, about the size of cruisers, like most other ships from the Eee (the universe's resident energy life form) are very weakly armed and have an exposed core, but complex shielding mechanisms prevent it from taking damage from almost any other angle. The shape of the ship is oddly reminiscent of ancient Earth-creatures known as 'Manta Rays'.

Nice design, I expect great things...

I espeially like the Skywalker's Design, and it also has an appealing color scheme.
But one question- do you plan to include novelty weapons on your ships?

Statement retracted, and I hereby announce that I suck at geography.

I really like the first, 0x8A4B0F. It looks nice, and the parts blend very well for a small ship. The second, not so much. It looks a little too bland, and its built for broadside... but there are no broadside guns...

Perhaps if I didn't have to deal with bad grammar all so often, I wouldn't overlook bad jokes.

Hrm, I feel bad for posting in my thread without bringing new updates.

I'm sorry, I just got a little... carried away with tweaking. Now I can't release it until it's just perfect.

First 2 ships are out, but the second one isn't the broadsider. I may decide to scrap it, however, since it's turning out to be quite the nuisance to look good.

Also, new ship design in the works, trying to figure out how to make it not so fugly in-game, since the whole ship is based on the contrast between the glows and the dark/highlighted sections.

The Aavinairia is really cool looking. Never seen anything quite like it. That back piece sticks out like a sore thumb, though. I recommend using a different segment.
