The Snake Army - Update: The Anaconda

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Not very funny...

Anyhow; the ship isn't bad for a first try, but I'm not enthousiastic about the entire snake idea. It is quite repetitive as well. Just a thought, if you wan't to continue making animal shaped ships, or at least things vaguely representing animal ships, look here for some inspiration.

"You can resize weapons with the Q and A keys."

ah, much thanks, sir. I knew you could do it, but I couldn't find the right hotkey. (wouldn't it make more sense to have Q and A change the firing arcs and I and K to stay as the resize keys? This makes no sense to me.)

On that note, is there a thread or a readme file or something that lists all the shipbuilder hotkeys? That'd be nice to know about if it exists.

"It is quite repetitive as well."

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I just couldn't think of any other way to do the main body of the snake. It seems to me that it's almost got to be repetitive by default. I don't know, maybe I'm not being inventive enough.

Looks like most people aren't big fans of the snake idea, so I'll probably scrap that (though I do enjoy the idea of a Boa Constrictor-themed ship that gravbeams people into the middle of it's coils and pounds on them :D).

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.

Just a quick advice; instead of placing other people's sentences between "'s, just copy them, the press "quote" when you want to make a post. Paste the sentencs, and then press "quote" again. That way, you'll get the it as...watch how surprising this is...a quote. That'll be more organized.

lol its true.
Anyway, I like the snake idea and, for that matter, the snake. To see a key list ingame and in shipmaker, press F1. Anyway, keep making ships, I hope to see a Boa Constrictor soon.

Oh yes, welcome to the forums.

Like so? Hehe. It's been too long since I posted consistently in a forum.
To see a key list ingame and in shipmaker, press F1.

The ship shocks me...cause you put to many Pointbeams...
If you want to generate that returning effect for projectiles, replace it with a beamer and use this.

I'm going to make a super thin Ageis spamming line of doom with ultra short range lucky 9 weapons so I can chase that ship all around the sandbox lol. Snakes FTW. Now if only I could get it to grow as it moves, or turn for that matter.

Also, repetition is not evil as some might have you believe. If you want to make a continuous body interesting, build out widthwise. Use one block consistently for the center row, then build a row on either side of something different, and etc. You can shrink the blocks and add quite a few layers if you want an interesting pattern like most snakes have because then the layers can be varied in position and coloring to produce patterns.

*Updated*

I just added the Anaconda to the original post, and I'd like some feedback on it.

Here's the basic hull

Image

It's 256 sections, and was an absolute pain in the butt to do, but it's done, and I'm relatively happy with how it turned out. Getting the curve to look right was hell, but I think it ended up being pretty smooth. Here are some closer shots if you want to see more detail.

My big question is which weapons load-out to use. I originally did it like this

Then I cut it down to just one big, modded weapon on each platform (as seen on the first page). I'm not sure which looks better for this ship. Thoughts?

Anyway, hope you enjoy it.

wow I really like the way this looks! The pattern is good looking, the weapons spaced, and the overall appearance more snake like instead of 'snake' the game lol. Excellent job!
