Star Trek fanships: Third (and last) Download!

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

The main change is of course that the saucer sections are all circular now, and I've lost some overstretched pieces. Thanks TBE.

Yeah, I think the stretched pieces was the Major problem first time around. The tiling also. And although this one still tiles, it's done more properly.

Intrepid's still a tad too elongated, but this round is much better.

Next thing up: the Scimitar. It's parenting is horrible, and there's a design flaw: the last part of the wings is entirely connected to a single section, which is the point of the inner part. I really have to fix that.

About the Intrepid, I'm gonna leave it this way. I'm gonna leave the perfection for the Borg.

The Romulan silhouettes are actually quite precise:

Form fidelity. That means the sections and such create the appearance of curves, wings and the like, and you spend time on making the shisp look like they have the same shape and characteristics as the original. As it stands, most of your ships are semi-accurate silhouettes
filled with jumbled piles of repeating, non-connected pieces. they looklike the outline of the originals, sure, but they also look like you spent no time giving them depth and energy.

For the kind of thing you should be doing for interiors of 3D starship recontructions, see Anna' older ship thread. His ships have incredible depth and look nothing like a BSF ship. They transcend their medium to create form. You have flattened the original's good form into a pixelated, badly-mirrored medium.

The head needs works

Very good, see if you do anything more to the saucer section texture .

Image

Horrible.

Image

See if you can play around with the depth to fix the inconsistant overlap.

Image

Can't say I hate it, but there is something about the saucer section that looks ungraceful.

Image

Silhouette is off, the saucer section, main body and thrusters are not scaled properly.

Image

Smooth out the edges of the saucer section, as well as fix the tip.

Image

I cannot recognize this ship on first glance. It is quite apparent that it lacks the quality of all your ships. Fix it.

This is EXCELLENT

Maybe it's that the outer edge is a jagged sawtoothed mess?

That picture hurts your case more than it helps. You had pictures that detailed and you ended up making those horrendous ships. The worst offender was your Scimitar, which doesn't even have the same basic outline as the one provided in said picture.

So, you know what? I took that picture, and an hour of my time, and I made the Scimitar the way it should have looked. Granted, no one expects you to put in the sort of effort or detail that I did, but there's plenty of middle ground between what I made and what you made.

Image

That is what the Scimitar should have looked like. Even if you ignore all the details, you could have at least tried to get the basic outline right.

Owned.

And that's a damn good ship, too.

Pfeh. I vastly prefer the ships in the SFB universe. Better for fighting with in BF as well, since they're all designed as actual fleets rather than the film and TV versions which are just made to look cool.

@Squishy: Largely true. I think I'm gonna play with secion sizes a bit more, see how it works out.

@Anna & ChaosTheory: For the last time: WIP.

Anna, If you think you can hijack my thread just to show how you can do better, then GO AWAY. Yes, that's a good ship, and yes, Anna is a fine shipbuilder. But I don't need to be shown how much better you are.

Now I can take critics, but this is just drilling my skills into the ground.

@ Daxx: I'm trying to build the original Star Trek ships, from the TV shows and movies. But I'll see if I can find something useful in there. Thanks.

I'm wondering, will there be also smaller craft, like shuttles and star fighters?

I think I'm gonna do the shuttles later, there will of course be smaller ships in the miscellanious section. There are little to no starfighters in the trek universe, so there's little chance.

EDIT: Serious review of the Scimitar. Still WIP.

I still need to do some tweaking and losing some design flaws, but I think i've got it fairly right this time.
