Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Ships of the United Imperial Interstellar Federation of C...

Post by Droid »

The United Imperial Interstellar Federation of Colonial Terran Democratic Alliances, or UIIFCTA for short, was formed the year after the collapse of the previous government (that did not have a name) due to the incursion of the Vyrax and starting of the Aezir Heresy. Fearing the same fate as their forerunners, paranoid leaders drawn up a long name that probably contradicted itself several times by throwing chunks the names of previous governments together. Regardless of the questionable intelligence of its leaders, the United Imperial Interstellar Federation of Colonial Terran Democratic Alliances wisely ordered the construction of the People's Industrial Fleet System Shipyards Expeditionary Defense Navy to act as a first and last line of defense against any opposing forces immediately after its formation. While bearing an inexplicably long name, the United Imperial Interstellar Federation of Colonial Terran Democratic Alliances People's Industrial Fleet System Shipyards Expeditionary Defense Navy (UIIFCTDAPIFSSEDN) served its purpose well in maintaining the peace since it was first completed. With the advent of the second heretic uprising, the strength of the UIIFCTDAPIFSSEDN is being put to the test.

Windstorm-class Communications Frigate
Image
With four sensor arrays, the Windstorm serves as a fleet coordination vessel when Cloudburst-class vessels are not present. The Windstorm also acts as a propaganda-broadcast vessel and provides Advance Warning and Control Systems allowing for better beam accuracy, stealth detection, communications and radar jamming, and countermeasures against comm jamming. Despite their tactical importance, Windstorm-class vessels are only lightly armed, and should always be deployed with an escort.
Offensive Weapon Systems:
3x Impaler Tactical Warhead Launcher
2x Plasma Cannon

Squall-class Escort Frigate
Image
An oddball in the fleet, the Squall is built on an off-center hull to accommodate its medium beam cannon. It is essentially a downsized version of the Thunder, used to escort important vessels or participate in surgical strikes. It is the only ship in the fleet to carry a mass penetrator cannon.
Offensive Weapon Systems:
1x Salvation Medium Beam Cannon
1x Vengeance Mass Penetrator Cannon
9x Impaler Tactical Warhead Launcher
2x Plasma Cannon

Lightening-class Monitor
Image
The Lightening-class is based on the design of the old river monitors with a single heavy cannon and little else. Fast, maneuverable and hard-hitting, Lightening-class vessels provide a heavy beam cannon even in minor engagements.
Offensive Weapon Systems:
1x Divine Light Heavy Beam Cannon
2x Plasma Cannon

Thunder-class Missile Cruiser
Image
With thirteen Impaler missile launchers as its main weapons, the Thunder-class of missile cruiser has excellent firepower for its size. However, it is notably lacking in armor and shielding, though it is quite maneuverable.
Offensive Weapon Systems:
1x Divine Light Heavy Beam Cannon
2x Salvation Medium Beam Cannon
13x Impaler Tactical Warhead Launcher
1x Light Beam Cannon
4x Plasma Cannon

Tempest-class Armored Cruiser
Image
Image
The Tempest trades the Thunder's missile batteries for beam cannons and higher speed for armor. The result is a ship that fares much better in a sustained conflict with heavy point defense, but is more sluggish.
The second version of the Tempest carries the same armament, but has some of its armor plating removed to allow for better maintenance access. Because the removed armor rarely served its purpose, the loss does not hamper is combat ability.
Offensive Weapon Systems:
3x Divine Light Heavy Beam Cannon
2x Salvation Medium Beam Cannon
3x Light Beam Cannon
13x Plasma Cannon

Maelstrom-class Battlecruiser
Image
A fusion the design philosophies of the Tempest and the Thunder, the Maelstrom-class battlecruiser carries both Impaler batteries and multiple Heavy beam cannons. Slightly slower than both lighter cruisers, the Maelstrom is nonetheless fast for its size, although its defenses are considered sub-optimal.
Offensive Weapon Systems:
4x Divine Light Heavy Beam Cannon
2x Salvation Medium Beam Cannon
20x Impaler Tactical Warhead Launcher
4x Light Beam Cannon
6x Plasma Cannon

Cloudburst-class Heavy Battleship
Image
Replacing the old Singularity-class dreadnoughts, the Cloudburst-class was designed as the next-generation heavy fleet element. With twenty four Impaler batteries and six heavy beam cannons, it is believed that a Cloudburst can destroy an Inimical-class dreadnought in a one-on-one engagement. Its comm arrays allows the Cloudburst to act as a command vessel and form a communications grid in remote locations where such infrastructure does not exist.
Offensive Weapon Systems:
6x Divine Light Heavy Beam Cannon
4x Salvation Medium Beam Cannon
24x Impaler Tactical Warhead Launcher
4x Light Beam Cannon
14x Plasma Cannon

Monsoon-class Battle Carrier
Image
The Monsoon is a modification of the Cloudburst's hull to create a carrier-class vessel. While not as heavily armed in conventional weapons, The Monsoon can deploy multiple squadrons of drones from its hangar bays. It still retains formidable firepower in the form of eight Implaer batteries and four Salvation beam cannons, enabling Monsoons to provide fire support in addition to delivering swarms of drones to the battlefield.
Offensive Weapon Systems:
4x Salvation Medium Beam Cannon
8x Impaler Tactical Warhead Launcher
2x Gunship Drone Bay
10x Fighter Drone Bay
18x Plasma Cannon

Vortex-class Supertanker
Image
The Vortex is based on the massive colony-carriers of old, the Vortex has six clamps used to hold on to external containers. Hauling six massive high-pressure tanks, this variant of the Vortex carries a variety of liquids and gases for the fleet. As it is a strictly non-combatant vessel, it carries very little offensive weaponry, but is heavily shielded and has plenty of point defense.
Offensive Weapon Systems:
8x Heavy Flak Cannon

Vortex-class Superfreighter
Image
The Vortex is based on the massive colony-carriers of old, the Vortex has six clamps used to hold on to external containers. Hauling six sets of massive dual cargo pods, this variant of the Vortex carries a variety of solid goods on behalf of the fleet. The Cargo pods can individually be swapped for gun platforms, missile launchers or drone bays under desperate circumstances. Normally a non-combatant vessel, it carries very little offensive weaponry in its default configuration, but is heavily shielded and has plenty of point defense. The freighter version additionally carries six grav beams for moving cargo and protection against asteroids.
Offensive Weapon Systems:
8x Heavy Flak Cannon

The faction name should say something about the ships. Note that it is heavily inspired by the early stages of the Chain Ship project.

This is the same hullform I wanted to use for some 3G Refit ships for the Aralonian Navy.

Dammit.

lol at the name

I really like the cannons(are they cannons?)on the front of the engine pod-thingys.

The Thunder is my favorite.IMO the side pods work better with skinnier ships.

That's quite the mouthful.

Nevermind I'm pretty sure that such a term would be physically impossible. You know, what with Imperial, United, Federation, Colonial and Democratic all in there at once...

I love the names, and the ships are cool too. Good job, I look forward to more of these ships and more of these ridiculous names.

I think the Thunder is the better of the two. The tempest looks just a little bit too fat at the front IMO. It might look better if the rear section was a bit bigger or the connection for the wing was a bit more robust looking. Exellent job so far though! Are you planning on any more ships for (mouthful  )?

That was what I should've done to get that older, blocky look on my ships...I love the Maelstrom.

Grr...say the wrong ship then spell the right ship wrong...

OP: Nice stuff. Glad to see that the chain project inspired you. Peferably I like the Maelstrom and the Thunder more than the tempest, though I have to commend you for trying to round off the engines on the tempest.

I cut down the ugly fat armor on the Tempest and came up with this:

Better? Worse?

Much better IMO. I'm going to ask an obvious question: you increased the Hp right?
