Areze's Shipyard

Post by Areze »

So my internet access crashed long ago. Later on, I reformatted my hard drive (this happens often), losing everything; which is shit 'cause I had a semi-supership I really was fond of. But oh well, I'll make an improved version later when I can be bothered.

Anyway, the new sections look great; remade the Geisepi navy, better than ever.

The KUV-9236 Segetsia Hull is the latest in the Empire's shipyards at Kelina IV. The two ships seen here engaging separatist forces far to the north is the K-0122 Segetsia Armored Front Line Cruiser, and the K-1122 Dugo Sub-Artillery Cruiser. These bpth use the KUV-9236 hull, with the Dugo having had the shield taken off to make room for more artillery and ammunition. Together, they form the basis of the Geisepi Cosmic Navy.

The Empire does not favor fighters, our admirals preferring crushing force to nimble trickery; however, the emperor himself has decreed that we should begin building fighter models to overcome some of the Imperial Navy's shortcomings. The ZUV-0011 Zhatk Hull is the of our first. Not as capable s our contemporaries, it will do for now, filling a much-needed niche.

Haha! Now we are where the empire is at it's grandest! Battleships! This is one of our more powerful heavy weapons platforms, the GA-5437 Kusavihla Dreadnought! This beast can teach all those who fight the empire the meaning of the word 'fear'. The Kusavihla can take on entire fleets and come out unscathed. The second picture is another battle against the Northern rebels, who refuse to back down. It is tragic that they cannot see reason. But we must do what we can. The Kusavihla will make sure to keep these dissidents and terrorists in line!

Here is a picture of the 707th Hera Garrison Fleets, sir, in all it's splendorous glory. Fleets like these are station throughout the vastness of the empire, keeping her borders safe from attack. Truly a beautiful sight, is it not? And this is just middling-level fleet, not at all what we would use to make a drive against a worthy foe! Imagine what we could truly muster...

Pirate Ships copied from that one post.

Say Hello to the Huskarl-class missile destroyer. This puppy sports two IR missile pods (modified missile launchers that fire twelve rounds at 35 a pop. Really long reload) and two torpedo launchers. It is perfect for long-range raids against lightly armored merchantmen and even government ships aren't above hiring the captains of these fearsome ships as mercenaries.

Truly any merchant's nightmare, as well as a great many commodores! The Odin-class dreadnought bears a veritable forest of weaponry, with Twin Autocannons, IR missile pods (even a rare IR Heavy Missile Pod), and torpedoes. It even has an EMP Torpedo Launcher to shut down those who dare fight the captain of this rare, and enormously powerful dreadnought.

Just a pic of an Odin and some Huskarls together.

'twas a full reformat. Killed everything. I think it was because of an issue with the monitor like last time, which is all good because I got rid of that old piece of shit and got a new one. :D

Anyway, I think the shield on the Segetsia is a tad thin; am I alone in this?

Even though most people these days use the SWA-styled sections, these ships are pretty decent, they have a nice amount of detail. Perhapes you could update your ships to the SWA sections? Then your ships would be really good.

Nah, they're about the right size, keep them that way.

Your ships are rather pretty. Though I get the feeling they're slightly gun happy. And I might suggest you make a quick check of the new features in SM since your last visit.
Don't you have stuff to do?
Ya know. The important things.

[Arcalane]

Stock is SO last year, get with the times :P .

[/Arcalane]

The largest ship is the best one here, good coloring scheme and true to the original BSF style. Won't fit very well with SWA sprites, but oh well..

The Segista is quite an intresting design, giving a peculiar shape with only 4 sprites. Bit thin, but it's a good size for a fighter.

The hammerhead-shaped ship didn't come out very well, the jutting edges on the "head" don't look very good. Add more sprites to curve it out or replace it completely?

Overall, nice work. I'd like to see your hand at SWA style ships.

Hammerhead? Do you mean the Segetsia? In a way I agree. I was going for a ship that is a powerhouse in front (almost able to take one battleships), but pathetic in the back. I agree with the shield; it looks 'off' to me, maybe not thin but awkward but I don't know what I want to do to fix it. Just replace the shield completely? Integrate it with the hull itself (I'm reluctant to do this), or just bend the two ends closer to the sides of the ship, making it roughly a 'u'-shape?

EDIT:

New Battleship.

Image

This here is meant more to stay behind the main line of Segetsias and beat the enemy into submission. The GA-7722 Luhni Battlecruiser is an impressive battleship and a worthy entry into the Empire's line of proud battleships, spondering some of the later projects in the weapons research programs. It is a favorite of commodores.

Do you have the glow setting on? Turn it off, because I can't tell wether some of those sections are supposed to be dark or are like that due to the glow setting (if it's on)

The shape of that last ship is a bit weird, because there's your main hull, then there is a large gap between the hull and those side sections. It's odd because they are connected at the back, which realistically would be unwise, because those side sections are really vunlnerable, because you simply need to destroy the back section and you lose half the ship. The shape itself is also a bit boxy.

To make the ship better, both tactically and to look at, put the connecting area near the middle, so it is protected by the outer sections. And lose some of those weapons, there's a bit too much of them

Interesting shape, although I would say that the connections between the two side pods are a bit thin.
If admirals hate and trash your ships,
If you can't get it right;
Then off you go, but don't call quits;
Just go make custom sprites.

As for the guns and the blockyness:

The blockyness is fully intended. The Geisepis ships are meant to value over function, and they do get ridiculed over how shapeless many of their vessels are. I am shooting for a more uncompromising, crude look.

The guns, I'll see about. I think it looks crowded as well as I tried to put them all on the main body, because I made the arms to thin. Will fix, but again, the Geisepis are meant to be slightly more gun-happy then their rivals the Terrans (will get to them sometime), to compensate for the fact that Geisepi ships are slow and they have very few support ships and carriers and whatnot. I'm following a theme. I might show what I mean when I get a Terran ship (the Terrans are more sophisticated, and love carriers) built. UTF ships are also less cubist. Sorry, should have said this earlier.

Also, how does one go about turning off the glow? I'd love to know as the thing is pretty irking sometimes, making the ships look more like hallucinations.

EDIT:

Working on the Luhni's arms. Making them more integrated. The three-sections-connected-by-arms model is more of a thing for another faction anyway. I'll spread the weapons out more as well.

EDIT2:

Image

Better?

Image

The HE-1021 Sukoka is a dedicated artillery ship, and as such, only a fool of a commander will allow it to get into a situation where it could get hurt. It should stay back and do what it does best; bombard the enemy with long-range torpedoes. It is a staple of the Geisepi navy and a proven force on the battlefield.

Glow can be turned off in the options menu. You click through the team colors till you get to glow, then turn it black.
I think the edit 2 is a step in the right direction because it looks more blocky, since thats the look your going for. I don't care for the gap under the auto gun furthest back on each side. Its too thin; either have a gap or close it up.
Easiest way to load a ship with lots of guns without looking crowded is to make bases for them, and to depth weapons like torpedoes or missiles so only the tip is sticking out. The single auto cannon on the wing looks like it should be a fixed mount of a heavier caliber, in which case you could cover it up except for the barrel. Also having a few large guns with lots of smaller ones spread around tends to make a ship look more heavily armed, imo.
I'd also beef up the nose a bit since its gonna be taking most of the fire and won't last long, especially if its a slow ship. For that matter, the piece on the very tip of the nose is horribly positioned, and quite possibly the wrong one for the job.

Yeah, that's the name, I couldn't figure out which one was which :? . Adding another sprite between the outermost and connecting sprite would make it look better.

As for the Luhni, there's a glaring straight line on the arms, stands out far too much, and there's a depthing jumble on the front of the arms.

The shape is okay but the section usage, particularly the wings, is a bit messy. Also, some of the parenting lines aren't done up effectively

Might just scrap the design. It really doesn't fit with the Geisepis very well anyway.
