Hi. I used to play BSF several months ago, and had created a fleet, the Vol'Nir Federation Star Navy, that was supposed to enter the Great War, but was scrapped before I switched to playing other games. That fleet went almost entirely unnoticed.

Anyway, I just decided to drop in again, and updated my game while looking around the forums. I found ArcaneDude's Martian Rebellion fleet and downloaded it.

I liked the concept of resource-light simple ships that can actually be used in large fleet battles with a reasonable FPS. The Martian ships, apart from being great designs, are simple enough to actually use(unlike MRA-level monsters)! To try it out, I played an AI vs AI encounter of the Martian fleet against the old semi-stock small IVL ships. The the whole thing ran at double-digit FPS, something not possible with MRA-level battles.

___________________________________________________________

So this inspired me to create a new fleet of simple ships balanced with the Martian fleet and the old, small IVL vessels. I'll be calling it the Predator Fleet for the lack of a better name, and all ship classes will be named after predatory cats. So here's the first one, built around an old half-baked chassis that I found lying around in my folders from waybackwhen:

Leopard-Class Light Cruiser

Image

Missiles launching:
Image

Guns blazing:
Image

Armament:
- 2 Antimatter Shaped-Charge Missile Launchers
- 4 Rotary Ion Pulse Drivers in 2 turrets

Defenses:
- 4 Ion Pulse PD Turrets
- Dedicated electromagnetic shielding for main turrets
- Frontal ablative armor

In 1-on-1 tests, it's been capable of
- Defeating a Hoax-class for the loss of one ablative armor section.

- Stalling indefinitely against an Untruth-class after KOing it's frontal weapons.

- Getting owned by a Conspiracy-class after taking out 2 blasters and 3 flak guns.
So I classified it as a light cruiser. The Ion Pulse Drivers do the same DPS as stock Blasters, but are much better at penetrating PD, and they look cooler.

I demand some C&C this time around. :P

The ship is nice, but the colors could use some work. The light blue pieces don't fit with the horrid green aegis, nor the grey pieces. And I'm not sure wether AD and Lizzie would agree with you using their ships for target practice, unless of course you have asked them, and they have said yes.

And, Lizzie's new fleet is the fleet with small ships. Not the other way around.

The light blue pieces don't even appear light blue in the game - they just look grey.

If Lizzie and AD had put these ships up for downloading, I suppose they should have no trouble with me balancing ships against them. I'm not modifying them or making a story around them or anything like that.

Also, has anyone noticed that, whatever bullet color you give to Particle Guns, when you run your ship as an enemy, the Particle Guns still fire purple shots? It seems to be a very minor bug.

Actually I don't like you posting up statistics including my ships without permission. I can let it slide but it's preferred you ask.

However I do have a issue with you presuming you could speak for me. :|

Just because I post it up for public download doesn't mean you should think you can do with it what you like. Most people just let small shit like that slide like I was going too, till you started speaking on my behalf.

When did I 'speak for you'? Do you mean the lines in the quote? That was a presumption, which appears to have turned out wrong. I'll delete the offending statistics.

Anyway, here's the second ship of the Predator Fleet:

Puma-Class Stormcruiser

Image

Initiating combat:

Image

Fleet action:

Image

Armament:
- 6 Rotary Ion Pulse Drivers
- 2 Antimatter Shaped-Charge Missile Launchers
- 2 Heavy ASC Missile Launchers
- 1 Gamma Ray Burst Weapon

Defenses:
- Dedicated shielding on outboard turrets
- Frontal ablative armor
- 4 Ion Pulse PD Turrets
- 2 Shrapnel Driver PD Turrets

The Puma is a stretched and toughened version of the Leopard chassis that fits more armament and armor. This gives it enough combat prowess and makes it large enough to be a dreadnought-level ship, although it lacks any fleet-support equipment whatsoever. It carries no repair modules, sectional deflectors, or starfighter hangars, but packs a lot of weaponry, and a lot of armor.

I think I'll also add a shield ship, a frigate and multipurpose carrier-cruiser to the Predator Fleet. It's just going to be an amalgamation of semi-stock balanced similarly-designed ships instead of a faction with a story.

Also, the Leopard's Aegises have been turned blue instead of green, and it's core HP has been raised to 500 from it's previous 350.

I have no problem with you putting up statistics. It is preferred if you ask first though.

Both ships are pretty good. Colors are okay, sectionwork *could* be slightly better, but nothing problematic. Good job.

Now for the third ship:

Ocelot-Class Armored Cruiser:

Image

Armament:
- 2 RIP Drivers
- 2 ASC Missile Launchers
- 1 Fire Support Platform-Fabricator

Defenses:
- Heavy frontal armor with dedicated shields
- 2 Sectional shield generators
- 1 Nanobot Repair Matrix
- 2 Ion Pulse PD Turrets

Fleet action:
The Ocelot tanks damage from the entire frickin' Pirate fleet while the other ships are ignored, in an AI vs AI encounter. :P
Image

More fleet action:
While the Ocelot is pinned and being flanked and battered, the others are having a turkey shoot. Here the Puma shows it's full firepower. 8)
Image

Yet more fleet action:
The battered Ocelot drifts behind the Puma and lets the others take out the remaining Pirates. While it is disarmed, it's defensive systems are still intact.
Image

The Ocelot is an armored cruiser/shield ship/meat shield/tank/whatever. It has half the firepower of the Leopard but is of similar size. It's job is to fly right in to the enemy's face and take fire. Although it's vulnerable to rear attack, it somewhat makes up for it with it's regular deflectors and repair module.

The platform fabricator, in it's present un-modded state, is utterly useless even at this sort-of stock balance level. An impeder fabricator would be more useful, but it won't fit into the design very well, so my current plan is to just buff the platform-fab with a higher regen rate.

Nobody likes thumbnails. Just give us the image full-sized. (unless it exceeds 800x600)

Happy now?

Next up: A bombardment ship. I'm going to try an incorporate an MLRS-style big effing rotating missile bank.

Next ship:

Lynx-Class Bombardment Cruiser:

Image

Armament:
- 6 ASC Warp-Missile Launchers

Defenses:
- Frontal ablative armor
- Gravitic Jammer
- 2 Shrapnel Driver PD-Turrets

This destroyer-sized ship's job is to lob volleys if specialized high-speed missiles at distant targets, while remaining far from the main fight. It's missiles are rather hard to maneuver, and ineffective at short range, but extremely deadly at long range. It's minimal defenses allow it some degree of survivability if caught in a close-range fight or attacked by similar long-ranged enemy vessels.

I scrapped the MLRS-style missile turret in favor of conventional broadside launchers used on so many other ships. This is going to be the smallest ship in the Predator Fleet, with a carrier variant

Before I comment, it would be nice if you cropped your pictures.

And it would be nice if you didn't make posts that border on breaking two rules in one sentence. Really, worthless spamposting and trying to act like a mod when you aren't one? That's classy.

On the other hand, Skrimy's pictures do not stretch the forum frames at all, so there's no need for him to crop them unless he wants to. Don't say "before I comment rah-rah-rah". Either post the actual comment, and then your worthless complaint about his not cropping, or don't post. Simple as that.

Skrim! I didn't much like your first few ships, but the Lynx class looks quite nice. I really like the side launching missiles. Pretty clasy lookin'.

I was just asking. :?

Though you're right, it could be classified as a spampost, in theory. I apologize.

The Lynx looks pretty good, though the two tail sections might look better if you were to replace them with 03's, or just lose the stretching.

A question for Skrim if I may:

How did you line up the top missile launchers with the bottom ones on the Lynx? I've found that when I rotate a missile launcher from 90 to 270 degrees it's always a little bit off.
