He doesn't mean you used it wrong, he means you left it out. You omitted the word. You didn't type it. I'm loving these ships though very unique, it makes me want to build my own in the same "world" to compete.
But you're gonna run out of adjectives starting with "i" eventually.

The for your information I'll provide you with some factoids about the "world" idea I had for the faction I described. It's a single planetary system very much like the solar system except with several fairly habitable terrestrial planets in the place of the horribly inhospitable crap we have here in the solar system, I mean christ, Mars is okay I guess, but it can't hold an atmosphere at all, and the less said about venus and mercury the better. Well anyway within the last fifty or so years humans in the system have started to colonise space, both in the form of planetary colonisation and by means of artificial habitats. Some colonies are independent, some are considered territories of planetary nations and others are corporate ventures and the distribution of industrial and military power is spread throughout the system but resides mostly in the hands of larger terrestrial nations and their colonial assets, collections of jointly governed colonies that are otherwise independent from terrestrial states or alliances of independent nations and colonies gathered together for mutal defence or to support eachother's economic or colonial interests.zackfire wrote:I'm loving these ships though very unique, it makes me want to build my own in the same "world" to compete.

Conflicts are small but common and space based battles rarely involve more than a few ships and occur almost exclusively in planetary orbits or in very close proximity to artificial habitats.
Everything is unnamed and all quantities are unspecified, so make up whatever you like.
I dunno what to think about these ships. They're very much like the modern space craft; ie, stripped down, modular and rather unimpressive. But you were specifically going for that design.
Its like someone setting out to draw a really terrible picture and then making something so bad it causes retinal cancer. Can you honestly say he's failed?
For what you were trying to do, they're impressive; but over all, they're pretty bland. All of them are pretty dang similar too.

I'd have to say that I think it's more like trying to paint an extremely unattractive object, such as a bucket full of chicken viscera, in a supremely unflattering art style, like as cubism. From the outset the result is inevitably going to be such that analyzing it by purely aesthetic standards is going to be relatively meaningless.
Incidently I actually know someone who does, fairly often draw really awful, and I mean awful, pictures just to see how bad a thing he can draw. I'll show you a picture of a thing he calls the MANGIANT if you want...

Sure, I'm game. Send me a pm or something, since you can't post it here, I think.HorseMonster wrote:I'd have to say that I think it's more like trying to paint an extremely unattractive object, such as a bucket full of chicken viscera, in a supremely unflattering art style, like as cubism. Though the funniest things are always those by people who are actually trying to be good and just fail so so horribly.

I'll put up an upload for all the AANC spaceships in a moment. Right now though, spaceplanes.
Unavoidable-Type Air Launched Orbital Interceptor

Because many AANC member states lack a well developed industrial infrastructure and because the spacecraft employed by the AANC reflect this by being simple and inexpensive the AANC often gets a reputation for being technologically inferior to other organisations or similar intent. The Unavoidable-Type Air Launched Orbital Interceptor is proof that this reputation is false. The Unavoidable type is a reusable orbital spaceplane capable of launching itself into orbit after being carried to high altitude by a large aeroplane. The Unavoidable type is armed with a medium calibre high-velocity gun derived from the main armament of the Irrevocable class. The Unavoidable is generally deployed prior to a larger engagement to attack strategic or tactical targets that would present a difficulty for larger craft that are markedly less agile in low planetary orbit; such as other spaceplanes and kinetic-kill satellites.

A little creative engineering, and suddenly...

Who says they can't be used with the other section styles, eh?
Yes, that's the sensor from the Targeting Module, hacked off and modified.
Looking forward to seeing more of the AANC and their rivals too.
Also, you shouldn't have any edges of sprites touching the edge of the actual image, they cut off and it makes the interpolation wig out. Fortunately, only two sprites suffer from this - the Accelerator Cannon and the Particle Accelerator. I fixed them up for you, and fixed the centerlining (though not the rotation) on them whilst I was at it.

Time for the other faction:
Unified System Defence League
The Unified System Defence League is a vaingloriously named military alliance whose member states are also exclusively first world terrestrial nations. Whilst the USDL’s expressed goals are to provide collective defence to its members and to provide the system with a reliable and cohesive space-based “police” force for the system in general. Whilst for the most part the USDL serves its purposes relatively transparently there have been and are increasingly occasions where prominent USDL member states have used the USDL military to further their colonial agendas in space, most commonly by means of gunboat diplomacy, though occasionally by deploying “peacekeeping” forces to dissenting colonies, these actions often bring the USDL into conflict with the AANC which tends to support colonies seeking independence. Unlike the AANC (that has an official spacecraft design bureau which creates spacecraft designs which are then licensed to AANC member states) the current USDL spacecraft designs are the outcome of a competitively run development and acquisition program that resulted in a single defence and aerospace company (TriStar Heavy Aerospace inc.) being awarded the contract to develop and produce all USDL spacecraft.
Spacecraft of the USDL
ASI A-1 Striker

The ASI/A-1 or Striker is a lightly armed orbital and interplanetary spacecraft intended for low risk missions. The Striker is armed with a missile pod capable of launching a swarm of low yield explosive missiles with limited guidance systems at a fairly long range. The Striker is approximate to the AANC Inscrutable type though it is substantially more durable and considerably more expensive to construct.
ASI A-2 Stalker

the ASI/A-2 Stalker is a more heavily armed version of the ASI/A-1. The Stalker is fitted with an additional missile pod as well as a 15mm machine gun making it much more effective than the Striker. The only major drawback of the Stalker over the Striker is the decreased acceleration that comes with its increased mass.
ASI S-1 Flanker

The ASI/S-1 Flanker is a long range fire support and missile interception craft armed with two electrically powered, pulsed beam lasers which allow it to inflict tremendous damage at extreme ranges. The only major weakness of the Flanker is its relatively limited firing arcs.
ASI S-2 Sniper

The ASI A-1 Sniper is a long range artillery support craft armed with a repeating 110mm cannon and is employed to destroy large, armoured targets from long range. The cannon equipped on the Sniper has one significant drawback, it has a very limited arc of fire, this renders the Sniper Vulnerable to more manoeuvrable craft and as such should never be deployed without escort.
ASI A-3 Lancer

The ASI A-3 Lancer was designed as a stop-gap solution to the appearance of heavily armed AANC spacecraft and stations. The ASI A-3 combines the weapons systems first deployed in the ASI S-1 and ASI S-2 and supplements them with further weapons systems as well as heavy armour. Whilst this craft is neither aesthetically pleasing nor elegant in design it is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with.
AOO I-1 Blocker

With the amount of independent space-based military organisations growing seemingly exponentially several USDL nations expressed concern that an attack on their nations from space may occur, this fear was later compounded by calls from some AANC member states for “more severe” action to be taken to halt aggressive activity by the USDL. The result is the AOO I-1 Blocker, a monument to paranoia. Armed exclusively with laser weaponry the Blocker class of stations are capable of engaging and destroying almost anything that passes near them, be it a ballistic missile, low-orbit spacecraft or enemy ship. The Blocker is also equipped with a state of the art point defence system that renders it nearly immune to projectile weapons fire.

it would be nice if you could use the booster mechanic to cause an increase in reload time for weapons, particularly lasers, as the radiators are destroyed.
A tiny alpha'd booster parented to the radiator and positioned on the weapon targeting a small hidden section that acted as the weapon's parent. Set the colour of the booster to black and you're sorted.
Just a thought, sice you're going with a realistic style and it would lend some extra tactical play to the ships, as well as informing future design decisions on where to place radiators and how to protect them.
