Second BSF Beauty Pageant - FINALLY COMPLETE

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

ChaosTheory, I noticed that you judged Fan Ship entries on:
--- Aesthetics:
--- Originality:
--- Creativity:
--- Functionality:

If you'll read the first post, on the first page, you would have remembered that Originality is replaced with Accuracy in the Fan Ship category.

I would also note that some of your comments do not reflect in the given scores. If something is not pretty and not particularly original, you do not give it 30/40. 5/10 is Average. You do not give something that you yourself say is "not pretty" an 8/10 on aesthetics. I'd suggest you go back and fix these errors.

There's a link to the Faladhi fleet. Thank you for bothering to read the last two pages, BlueEcho. :? As to Zeron's fleet, I'm still waiting for him to reupload it. I'm curious as to how ChaosTheory judged it without a download.

Well, interestingly enough, I have *some* memory, so I went back and did a search for the BF-Pride Class . . . . and guess what it turned up . . . ? I seem to remember this topic . . .

http://www.wyrdysm.com/phpBB2/viewtopic ... highlight=

Same thing with a lot of the ships/fleets. I already have them in my folder, so I didn't bother to check whether the DL was active or not.

Sorry 'bout the bad math, folks. Did it while eating a ham sandwich. If I'm lucky, I'll have time today to go back, double check, and edit all the scores. Disregard them for now.

@Zeron: I didn't see a stroy on your 4th Armada, so I assumed it didn't exist, and I couldn't remeber another one. Could you give me a link? I thought your fleet rocked.

The Geisberg's main gun is suppose to destroy large ships and leave zelus sized enemies relatively unscathed...

No, seriously, folks. I was using Notepad to record the scores while eating a ham sandwich and leftover potato salad for dinner . . . which meant I wans't using a calculator/focusing (it was a good sandwich . . . )

Same reason I should stop doing trig while eating/going on this forum . . .

WTH. I'll shut up and do my homework.

[Edit:] goduranus, you can shut up now. It doesn't look good to have half the screen go white. It doesn't look like any sort of weapon. It looks like you are abusing the weapon editing commands. It == not aesthetic.

ChaosTheory or Zeron, could you kindly put the BF-Pride class fleet back up for download? I did not download it while the link still worked, and now it does not work, due to an annoying 404 error, as stated previously.

Time for me to weigh in.

Here's how the scoring system SHOULD go, for those of you paying attention. On a 1-10 scaling for criteria, the numbers mean the following:
1: Absolute Crap.
2: Really Bad.
3: Bad.
4: Below Average.
5. Average.
6. Above Average.
7. Good.
8. Really Good.
9. Fantastic.
10. Virtually Flawless.

If I give a score of zero, then that means I feel that absolutely no effort was put into the criteria at all. For a 1-5 score, it's
1. Crap
2. Bad
3. Average
4. Good
5. Fantastic.

Everyone got it? Good. Now on to the judging.

Original Ships Category:

Velvet Hammer II-class Monitor by Lizzie
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Originality: 7/10
--- Creativity: 6/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 0/5
Total: 23/40
Comments: This ship has always kind of bugged me. Something about the side-pods irks me a little. It just looks wrong to me, I guess. However, it is quite original, and scores decently all across the board, with very high marks in functionality. It looks dangerous, whether its just sitting there, or shooting its guns at some poor, hapless bastard.

Ananke Sparrow by derekiv
--- Aesthetics: 1/10
--- Originality: 2/10
--- Creativity: 2/10
--- Functionality: 0/5
--- Backstory: 0/5
Total: 5/40
Comments: What do I say about this? It's a horrible attempt at doing a complex design that's been done numerous times before, and it fails miserably. This ship is ugly. Plain and simple. There is nothing attractive about it. The sections have been stretched and skewed and squashed together beyond recognition. The massive amounts of aegis remove any potential it may have had. The score of functionality was so low because this ship literally does not work properly. It neitherl looks functional, nor is it functional in game. As such, it gets zero.

Broadsword by Giles
--- Aesthetics: 2/10
--- Originality: 3/10
--- Creativity: 1/10
--- Functionality: 3/5
--- Backstory: 0/5
Total: 9/40
Comments: This ship has no place in the Beauty Pageant. While it's a decent ship to play with, submiting this is like taking the Athena, slapping more guns on it, then submitting that. If you expect a good score, you obviously haven't looked at the competition. Look on the bright side, though. Derekiv did worse.

SDX-A 003 Superdreadnaught by Siber
--- Aesthetics: 7/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 6/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 4/5
Total: 27/40
Comments: A very nice, very bulky-looking ship, layered with ablative armour and armed to the teeth with guns. The Backstory was both interesting and amusing, and the over-all shape of the ship is both simple, and yet eye-catching and fairly unique. Excellent work.

SGS Megaera-002b by GenericSS
--- Aesthetics: 9/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 3/5
--- Backstory: 2/5
Total: 27/40
Comments: This is a damn fine ship. I love its design, its shape, its look. The use of pieces for added details was very nice. My only major complaint is a lot of tiling along the central part of the ship, and the use of stretched pieces in some areas which doesn't look quite right.

Heaven's Last by Wilbky
--- Aesthetics: 8/10
--- Originality: 9/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 2/5
--- Backstory: 2/5
Total: 28/40
Comments: This is a damn pretty ship. It's hard to argue otherwise. It's just plain nice. It's a very original design, and offers lots of creativity as well. Unfortunately, it's brought down by a fairly bland and cliche backstory, and a hullshape that looks incredibly vulnerable.

NCF-14 Norien Elson by Aralonia
--- Aesthetics: 7/10
--- Originality: 5/10
--- Creativity: 6/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 4/5
Total: 27/40
Comments: I've always loved the Aralonian vessels. They take an old idea, of naval-like space battleships, and breath new life into them. Aralonia does this better than anyone else I've seen, bar-none, and the Norien Elson is by far his best ship to date.

Geisberg Fortress by goduranus
--- Aesthetics: 4/10
--- Originality: 3/10
--- Creativity: 6/10
--- Functionality: 3/5
--- Backstory: 3/5
Total: 19/40
Comments: Honestly... I really hate the direction goduranus took with this ship. To start off with, when he posted work in progress screenshots of it, it had a lot of potential. It looked like it could turn out to be a very cool and unique station. And then the final product was posted, and it was filled in and cluttered up and all its potential was wasted. Now it's a Death Star-wannabe that just doesn't quite meet the grade, unfortunately.

Needle of God by Boba Fettucini
--- Aesthetics: 7/10
--- Originality: 7/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 1/5
Total: 26/40
Comments: A decent looking ship with a nice selection of weapons to make it look nice and nasty. It's good all across the board, but nothing really stands out about it. Was held back by a short, dull and lack-lustre Backstory.

Ravana by Talhydras
--- Aesthetics: 8/10
--- Originality: 7/10
--- Creativity: 9/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 33/40
Comments: If you hadn't noticed by now, I'm trying to keep the scores low. I'm not holding back at all. For everything I see that bugs me, I alter the score accordingly. But, try as I might, I can't justify giving the Ravana a lower score than this. It's a downright beautiful and very creative ship, fusing elements of the Faladhi-style and Lizzie's WCW6 so seamlessly as to become something that, quite frankly, is superior to both. It's a fighter jet made out of biceps, and it is made of awesome.

Bia3 by Natch
--- Aesthetics: 3/10
--- Originality: 4/10
--- Creativity: 4/10
--- Functionality: 3/5
--- Backstory: 0/5
Total: 14/40
Comments: Decent looking ship. Nothing new or original. Except the .shp file causes an error and crashes the game, and the .sb3 file won't load properly with the four most recent versions of SM3, so I didn't get to test it in-game. If Natch can upload a version that doesn't crash the game completely, I may test it in-game and revise this judging then.

Fan Ships Category:

Warning Forever Ship by Talhydras
--- Aesthetics: 5/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Accuracy: 9/10
--- Functionality: 8/10
Total: 29/40
Comments: Quite accurate to the original, fun to play with, not particularly attractive to look at, though. Still, it's quite good.

Conestoga-class Starship by Syngyne
--- Aesthetics: 4/10
--- Creativity: 3/10
--- Accuracy: 5/10
--- Functionality: 5/10
Total: 17/40
Comments: A bland ship of below-average quality. Fails to capture the details or the feel of the USS Sulaco. Nothing about this ship says anything other than "meh".

Victory II-class Star Destroyer by goduranus
--- Aesthetics: 5/10
--- Creativity: 2/10
--- Accuracy: 5/10
--- Functionality: 1/10
Total: 13/40
Comments: Pure failure. It barely looks anything like a Victory-II, being far too short and stubby. The layering of sections was done poory, and its armament was so far from being accurate to the canon that it's not even funny.

Beacon Core (Gradius V version) by Ixranin
--- Aesthetics: 8/10
--- Creativity: 6/10
--- Accuracy: 7/10
--- Functionality: 7/10
Total: 28/40
Comments: Fairly accurate to the original, with only a few dissimilarities. Quite fun to play with, and also quite interesting to look at. All around a fairly decent ship.

Minbari Sharlin by Auriak
--- Aesthetics: 9/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Accuracy: 7/10
--- Functionality: 8/10
Total: 31/40
Comments: A strong performer. It's good looking, and it's quite accurate to the original. No real complaints about it.

The Chmmr Avatar by error
--- Aesthetics: 8/10
--- Creativity: 8/10
--- Accuracy: 8/10
--- Functionality: 7/10
Total: 31/40
Comments: A faithful and beautiful recreation of the Chmmr Avatar from Star Control 2. Stunning in every respect. And fun to play with, too.

Colonial Viper Mk. II by _Ti__
--- Aesthetics: 2/10
--- Creativity: 2/10
--- Accuracy: 5/10
--- Functionality: 2/10
Total: 11/40
Comments: Pieces are stretched to hell on this thing. Honestly, it's quite horrible. It's also incredibly bland. It could be almost anything. If it weren't for the fact he called it a "Colonial Viper", I probably wouldn't have even guessed it.

Fleets Category:

New Terran Defense Force by M123
--- Aesthetics: 7/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 5/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 1/5
Total: 23/40
Comments: An above average fleet. Nice enough to look at, but nothing particularly special. It is, however, an incredibly vast improvement over M123's entry last time.

Falahdi Fleet by Talhydras
--- Aesthetics: 7/10
--- Originality: 9/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 3/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 31/40
Comments: A great fleet, very original stuff. Some of these designs I really like, others not so much. But even the ones I dislike are still highly creative and original. A solid backstory always helps, of course.

Terran Battlefleet by Shenaldrac
--- Aesthetics: 2/10
--- Originality: 1/10
--- Creativity: 1/10
--- Functionality: 3/5
--- Backstory: 2/5
Total: 9/40
Comments: This fleet is everything an entry into the Beauty Pageant should not be. Any beauty they might have had has since been buried under mountains and mountains of weapons. These ships are not creative, not original, and they sure as goddamn hell aren't beautiful.

New Eden Fleet by goduranus
--- Aesthetics: 1/10
--- Originality: 1/10
--- Creativity: 1/10
--- Functionality: 2/5
--- Backstory: 2/5
Total: 7/40
Comments: Absolute unoriginal trash. There's nothing at all to save it. All the good is drained away by the fucking dull. I would say these ships are as boring as shit, but honestly, I've seen crap that was more interesting. I'd rather play with and look at Shenaldrac's "Buried under a mountain of guns" fleet than this boring, unoriginal, uninspired, generic junk.

Third Generation Aralonian Navy by Aralonia
--- Aesthetics: 7/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 4/5
Total: 29/40
Comments: As always, the Aralonian ships manage to take a generic looks and breath new life into it, and make something that is completely excellent, despite being a rehash of something that's been done before. Except it's like Battlestar Galactica. The remake exceeds the original.

BF-Pride Class by Zeron
--- Aesthetics: /10
--- Originality: /10
--- Creativity: /10
--- Functionality: /5
--- Backstory: /5
Total: /40
Comments: I can't judge this until someone re-uploads it. The download is down. Has been for a while now. My requests for someone to reupload it have apparently been ignored. Not happy.

Dalvitan Authority Fleet by Siber
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Originality: 7/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 4/5
Total: 28/40
Comments: I'm not particularly fond of some of these designs, and even the ones I like still irk me a little, but they're all very original, very creative, and very functional in both appearance and gameplay. A great fleet, particularly if you like the style Siber uses.

Iryian Navy by Fuiste
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 6/10
--- Functionality: 3/5
--- Backstory: 3/5
Total: 24/40
Comments: An interesting fleet. Some really good ships here, and some unspeakably bad ones. Fairly original and creative, however. Not much else to say about it, really. It's barely above average in about every respect.

Schkrin Extrasolar Navy by Tsakara
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Originality: 7/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 3/5
--- Backstory: 1/5
Total: 24/40
Comments: An interesting and fairly unique fleet that seems to get a lot of hype for some reason I fail to understand. There's nothing particularly special about these ships, aesthetically, from what I can see, except that they do a fairly remarkable job at not looking like crap with so much repetition. They're certainly good, but they aren't great. And the backstory is just plain bad.

Entomeda-Pax Armada by ranmafan
--- Aesthetics: 7/10
--- Originality: 5/10
--- Creativity: 8/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 2/5
Total: 26/40
Comments: A very interesting, unique take on the "bug-ships in space" theme. Some of the ships are better than others, but all of them have their own look that at once sets them apart from the rest, and yet forms a cohesive looking fleet.

I evened out scores across the board (and used a calculator). Let's try this again:

Note that I didn't really edit the comments.

ChaosTheory's Judging Scores:

=====================
[---Original Ships---]
=====================

Ananke Sparrow:
*Derekiv
--- Aesthetics: 3/10
--- Originality: 4/10
--- Creativity: 2/10
--- Functionality: 2/5
--- Backstory: 1/5 - from rest of fleet
Total: 12/40
Comments: I wasn't very impressed here. The streching wasn't done very well, and the aegis made it look boring.

Bia3:
*Natch
--- Aesthetics: 4/10
--- Originality: 3/10
--- Creativity: 2/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 0/5
Total: 13/40
Comments: Well . . . I have to wonder why this was entered, but it does have some strange unexplainable attraction. Maybe it just looks like it should go into battle?

Broadsword:
*Giles
--- Aesthetics: 3/10
--- Originality: 2/10
--- Creativity: 2/10
--- Functionality: 2/5
--- Backstory: 0/5
Total: 9/40
Comments: It was okay, but not amazing. The weapon loadout really killed it, and it was nothing like a sword.

Geisburg Fortress:
*goduranus
--- Aesthetics: 5/10
--- Originality: 5/10
--- Creativity: 4/10
--- Functionality: 2/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 21/40
Comments: A nice rounded shape, good detail, functional in battle. But giant cannons that destroy everything in a single shot? Not my thing.

Heaven's Last:
*Wilbky
--- Aesthetics: 8/10
--- Originality: 8/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 3/5
Total: 30/40
Comments: Very good, nice curves. Very well thought out.

Needle of God:
*Boba Fetuccini
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Originality: 4/10
--- Creativity: 5/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 3/5
Total: 22/40
Comments: Nice rear end, not exceptionally creative/extraordinary otherwise.

RAN Norien Elson:
*Aralonia
--- Aesthetics: 9/10
--- Originality: 7/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 33/40
Comments: Exceptionally well-formed. The overall shape is pleasing to the eye, and the weapons are cool, but lost points for unoriginality.

Ravana:
*Talhydras
--- Aesthetics: 8/10
--- Originality: 8/10
--- Creativity: 8/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 4/5
Total: 32/40
Comments: Possibly not the best of Talhydras' ships, but smoothly made and it's easy to see the WcW6 inspiration for it. I tended to blow off the wings alot, though, so it lost points for functionality as a warship.

SDX-A 003 SuperDreadnought:
*Siber
--- Aesthetics: 7/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 6/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 28/40
Comments: I like it. Good story, looks fun to play with.

SGS Megaera-002b:
*GenericSS
--- Aesthetics: 5/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 6/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 3/5
Total: 24/40
Comments: I can't pin it down, but there's something about it I don't like. Looks nice as a looming black derilict, though.

Velvet Hammer II:
*Lizzie
--- Aesthetics: 9/10
--- Originality: 8/10
--- Creativity: 8/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 1/5 - From the rest of the fleet
Total: 31/40
Comments: Original wing design, works well in battle, looks like a serious warship.

---------------
Final Decision:
---------------

In this category, the Elson takes the win from me as a great warship. The Ravana gets good points for style, and VH II takes third for originality.

=================
[---Fan Ships---]
=================

Beacon Core (Gradius V version):
*Ixranin
--- Aesthetics: 7/10
--- Accuracy: 7/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 6/10
Total: 27/40
Comments: A nice design, and creative use of pieces, but not as true to the original as I would have liked. Weapons on the back Core are out of place.

The Chmmr Avatar (Star Control 2):
*error
--- Aesthetics: 8/10
--- Accuracy: 9/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 9/10
Total: 33/40
Comments: A great design, very close to the orginal. The detailing is great, and the drones are creative. Fun to use, nearly perfect, except for a few minor shape discrepencies.

Colonial Viper Mk. II:
*_Ti__
--- Aesthetics: 5/10
--- Accuracy: 5/10
--- Creativity: 6/10
--- Functionality: 6/10
Total: 22/40
Comments: I would have perferred this done larger with more detail. The red detail lines are not as correct as they could be, and I don't like stretching.

Conestoga Class Starship:
*Syngyne
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Accuracy: 7/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 7/10
Total: 27/40
Comments: Good use of detail on the front and back, but the wings didn't look as good. The rear is epic win.

Minbari Sharlin (Babylon 5):
*Auriak
--- Aesthetics: 9/10
--- Accuracy: 8/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 7/10
Total: 31/40
Comments: Oooh, me like. Cool design, especially with color and glow. Looks very good. Well rounded in other areas.

Victory-class Star Destroyer:
*goduranus
--- Aesthetics: 5/10
--- Accuracy: 4/10
--- Creativity: 4/10
--- Functionality: 5/10
Total: 18/40
Comments: I think it could have been done a lot better and larger, with a slightly more realistic armament, and there were a few mirroing errors on the sides.

Warning Forever Ship:
*Talhydras
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Accuracy: 9/10
--- Creativity: 6/10
--- Functionality: 7/10
Total: 28/40
Comments: A pretty small ship, but well done for what it is. Creative.

---------------
Final Decision:
---------------

A smooth win by the Chmmr Avatar, which wouldn't be my first pick aesthetically, but is the closest to its original and I feel the best pick for a fan ship catagory. The Sharlin came closely on its heels with a very organic design.

=============
[---Fleets---]
=============

BF-Pride class:
*Zeron
--- Aesthetics: 10/10
--- Originality: 8/10
--- Creativity: 8/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 0/5
Total: 31/40
Comments: Great continuous design thread, and ships look deadly. Originality gets high points as well for your interestingly shapeed wings. No backstory?

Dalvitan Authority Fleet:
*Siber
--- Aesthetics: 9/10
--- Originality: 8/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 33/40
Comments: Love it, great design thread, fights fairly well together. I like the color scheme.

Entomeda-Pax Armada:
*ranmafan
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 5/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 27/40
Comments: Fairly good, mildly original, but not great aesthetically. too many weapons, not very outstanding.

Faladhi Fleet:
*Talhydras
--- Aesthetics: 9/10
--- Originality: 9/10
--- Creativity: 8/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 36/40
Comments: These things are beautiful. A definite sort of surrealist style, especially the later ones. Great points for aesthetics, highly original. Good fleet when put together.

Iryian Navy:
*Fuiste
--- Aesthetics: 5/10
--- Originality: 4/10
--- Creativity: 4/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 22/40
Comments: Looks a lot like Talhydra's fleet, but not as well done. Fleet doesn't look like it fits together well, or really designed for battle. Respectable, at least.

New Eden Fleet:
*goduranus
--- Aesthetics: 7/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 5/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 28/40
Comments: Well, the fleet works very well together and has great cohesive tactics, but it isn't as pretty and not exceptionally original.

New Terran Defense Force:
*M123
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Originality: 4/10
--- Creativity: 4/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 3/5
Total: 21/40
Comments: An okay group, but not very original and not very specialized. The fleet is not especially cohesive.

Schkrin Extrasolar Navy:
*Tsakara
--- Aesthetics: 10/10
--- Originality: 9/10
--- Creativity: 8/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 37/40
Comments: Colors = epic win. Definite aesthetic winner, and very strong fleet, if not overly powerful. All the ships look like they were made by the same shipyard. Very bio-organic.

Terran Battlefleet:
*Shenaldrac
--- Aesthetics: 5/10
--- Originality: 5/10
--- Creativity: 4/10
--- Functionality: 3/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 22/40
Comments: Not overly impressive. To much Aegis, to many weapons. Quality over quantity, please. Not as pleasing to the eye as some. good for an early fleet, however.

Third Generation Aralonian Navy:
*Aralonia
--- Aesthetics: 10/10
--- Originality: 7/10
--- Creativity: 8/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 35/40
Comments: Great fleet. Nice style, fleet fits together and has common design thread. However, as with the Elson, not the most original design, but highly styled.

---------------
Final Decision:
---------------

Tsarka wins by a hair in the fleet catagory with some beautiful bio-organic Schkrin vessels. The Faladhi Fleet drops right behind for a close and spiky second, and Aralonia's fleet takes third.

Due to popular request, I have been called in as a spur of the moment surprise guest of the day judge. Or something.

I'm going to be editing scores in with the post and doing them a chunk at a time.

Note: this thread is very work-in-progress, so if you see incomplete scores sitting here, it's because I'm a lazy git and only doing this because I was asked. I swear, if they'd just fulfill the demand for beer...

ORIGINAL SHIPS

Ananke Sparrow
*derekiv
--- Aesthetics: 2/10
--- Originality: 3/10
--- Creativity: 3/10
--- Functionality: 1/5
--- Backstory: 0/5
Total: 9/40
Comments: Poor stretching, bandwagoning (RRoan and Danny were the first to make bird-like ships, and theirs were -far- more eyepleasing), ridiculous statistics, absolutely no movement ability because it goes too fast (srsly) and no backstory in sight.

Bia3
* Natch
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 5/10
--- Functionality: 3/5
--- Backstory: 0/5
Total: 20/40
Comments: A fairly plain looking ship, I assume it's purpose is as a short-range brawler, using the gravbeams to drag enemies into range of it's pulseguns. Neat use of parts though I dislike the stretching somewhat.

Broadsword
* Giles
--- Aesthetics: 4/10
--- Originality: 5/10
--- Creativity: 4/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 0/5
Total: 17/40
Comments: A generally acceptable basic shape, but with some more work this could be scaled up to a much larger level of detail. Fairly original in terms of shape but subpar use of aegis. Good functionality score because it looks fit to be a warship.

Geisburg Fortress
* goduranus
--- Aesthetics: 4/10
--- Originality: 7/10
--- Creativity: 4/10
--- Functionality: 3/5
--- Backstory: 0/5
Total: 18/40
Comments: The jumbled section use for the middle areas is not particularly eyepleasing, so reduced aesthetics and creativity for that, but extra originality points for actually managing to make a perfectly round station - discounting the knobbly bits on the outside. The Cannon could be done a lot better; as it is, I don't really care how you try to justify it, it looks shoddy.

Heaven's Last
* Wilbky
--- Aesthetics: 5/10
--- Originality: 7/10
--- Creativity: 5/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 3/5
Total: 24/40
Comments: I can't say I'm fond of the shape or anything, but it's not atrocious (though I did spot some bad stretching). The backstory, if short, at least doesn't suck ass, and if the Heaven's Last is designed to obliterate anything it comes up against, it definitely succeeds in that respect.

SGS Megaera
* GenericSS
--- Aesthetics: 5/10
--- Originality: 4/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 3/5
--- Backstory: 2/5
Total: 21/40
Comments: Poor overall hull design (repetition) and similarity to other ships take some points away here. Some bonus points for the detailing near the front, however. Execution of the main gun is a bit off though, and I suggest rebuilding it in SM3 to take full advantage of it's capabilities. Backstory isn't too good either.

Norien Elson
* Aralonia
--- Aesthetics: 7/10
--- Originality: 8/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 4/5
Total: 31/40
Comments: lolpenisbrick. A deadly and majestic looking warship. Even if it does look like a penis. Definitely not something I want to get in the way of. It might violate me or something. D:

Needle of God
* Boba Fetuccini
--- Aesthetics: 7/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 4/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 3/5
Total: 24/40
Comments: Not good, but not bad either. Not particularly special, but it does get originality points for the engine-protecting baffles; a concept I haven't seen before. It doesn't seem particularly creative and some of the part stretching that is there is fairly poor. That said, it's not something I'd want to get caught in the broadside of.

Ravana-I
* Talhydras
--- Aesthetics: 8/10
--- Originality: 7/10
--- Creativity: 5/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 30/40
Comments: If it's aim is to look big and scary, it certainly pulls it off. Good backstory, certainly looks like it's capable of doing it's job. Not many creativity points for backstory reasonings though. ;)

SDX-A 003 SDN
* Siber
--- Aesthetics: 4/10
--- Originality: 7/10
--- Creativity: 8/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 4/5
Total: 27/40
Comments: Mega originality/creativity points for the armour design. It looks fairly functional as a warship, and the backstory is pretty good. I don't like the look of it, but that's not to say it's bad as a whole.

Velvet Hammer II
* Lizzie
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Originality: 7/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 0/5
Total: 24/40
Comments: If only the VH2 had a backstory, I'm sure it could do better. I'm not fond of the curvy style, but it's pretty good, and the ablative armour isn't exactly new as a concept, but it's pretty well done. It looks functional as a warship as well.

Summary:
1st: Norien Elson - Aralonia
2nd: Ravana-1 - Talhydras
3rd: SDX-A 003 SDN - Siber
Honourable Mentions: Velvet Hammer 2, Needle of God, Heaven's Last

FAN SHIPS

Warning Forever Ship
* Talhydras
---Aesthetics: 7/10
---Accuracy: 9/10
---Creativity: 9/10
---Functionality 10/10
Total: 35/40
A very accurate replication, although I feel it's a touch too fast. The only other quibble I have is that the shots are the wrong colour, but otherwise I think this one is pretty much 99% accurate. Nice work.

Chmmr Avatar
* error
---Aesthetics: 8/10
---Accuracy: 6/10
---Creativity: 8/10
---Functionality 6/10
Total: 28/40
Much as I'm a fan of the Avatar, this one really needs some work. Weapon customization/modification will be key to making this one work properly. Nice try, but it's not the same without the rapid-fire laser. :(

Victory-II Star Destroyer
* goduranus
---Aesthetics: 6/10
---Accuracy: 4/10
---Creativity: 5/10
---Functionality 4/10
Total: 21/40
This definitely has an inaccurate armament and loadout compared to the original, so it is not going to score very high there. That said, it is at least vaguely resemblant of the original, though it doesn't capture the conning tower at all. Nice try, but it could do with being larger so there's more room for a more accurate loadout and proper stats.

Sharlin-class Warcruiser
* Auriak
---Aesthetics: 6/10
---Accuracy: 7/10
---Creativity: 5/10
---Functionality 8/10
Total: 26/40
Unfortunately the Sharlin's vertical style doesn't work very well in BSF. However, I think Auriak did a pretty good job of it. The only letdown is the stretching, really.

Colonial Viper Mk2
* _Ti__
---Aesthetics: 6/10
---Accuracy: 5/10
---Creativity: 4/10
---Functionality 8/10
Total: 23/40
Unfortunately I think the small scale pretty much sunk this. As a fan ship I would recommend remaking it on a larger scale - not like it'll hurt anyway. Nice try, but again, the small scale is it's downfall as not very much detail can be fit in a small space.

Beacon Core (Gradius V version)
* Ixranin
---Aesthetics: 7/10
---Accuracy: 8/10
---Creativity: 6/10
---Functionality 8/10
Total: 29/40
I have to say, this is also a pretty accurate replica. My only complaints are the frontal beams (which would have been better replaced with damage-modded shockbeamers, and only two of them) and the vertical beams, which would probably again be better with a rapid fire shockbeamer or megabeamer, also recoloured. Otherwise, fairly close recreation going by the video I was watching.

Conestoga (USS Sulaco)
* Syngyne
---Aesthetics: 4/10
---Accuracy: 6/10
---Creativity: 5/10
---Functionality 6/10
Total: 21/40
Ehhhhh is all I can say to this. It looks very meh from above, and I think quite a bit of detail was lost in the transition to BSF. That said, it doesn't seem that bad overall, but it could do with a bit of work. You also forgot the minelayer. :P

Summary:
1st: Warning Forever Ship - Talhydras
2nd: TIE! Chmmr Avatar - error_ / Beacon Core - Ixranin
3rd: Sharlin-class Warcruiser - Auriak

FLEETS

Dalvitan Authority
* Siber
--- Aesthetics: 8/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 6/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 30/40
Comments: Very high aesthetics score for a nice colour scheme and a theme that is maintained within the entire fleet and the way the ships are made. High creativity for the "egg" style armour as well, something I haven't seen before. There are a couple of designs I'm not so fond of - for example, I think the Unbroken would look better if it's nose pieces were the other way around and tapered to the front rather than back - but overall it's a good (if small) fleet.

Entomeda-Pax Armada
* ranmafan
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Originality: 8/10
--- Creativity: 4/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 4/5
Total: 26/40
Comments: I have to say, I've never ever seen a fleet based off of insects, so nice work pulling that off. Fairly decent backstory and they look functional as far as ships and fleets go. That said, lower creativity score for badly stretched sections in places.

Faladhi Fleet
* Talhydras
--- Aesthetics: 7/10
--- Originality: 8/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 5/5
--- Backstory: 5/5
Total: 32/40
Comments: Jesus H. Christ on a motherfucking pogo stick. You think you made enough ships for this one? That said, they're all very good. The letdowns, however, are the Jormungand, Cataphract, Perseus, Ballos and Glamour.

New Eden Fleet
* goduranus
--- Aesthetics: 4/10
--- Originality: 5/10
--- Creativity: 4/10
--- Functionality: 3/5
--- Backstory: 1/5
Total: 17/40
Comments: Okay, before I even look at giving out points I can say one thing - quantity does not, and will not, equal quality. Most of the ships are just simple and tiny loadout modifications, and the fighters are just pirate cores with a weapon stuck on them.

3rd Gen Aralonian Navy
* Aralonia
--- Aesthetics: 8/10
--- Originality: 7/10
--- Creativity: 7/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 4/5
Total: 30/40
Comments: Pulling in a solid 30 points, the 3rd Gen Aralonian Navy is pretty decent, and in contrast to the NEN, proves that quantity is not quality. The loadout modifications are clear, and whilst I don't agree with the huge empty space along the front of the hulls, fairly sane. Only thing I don't really like is the engines.

Iryian Navy
* Fuiste
--- Aesthetics: 6/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 8/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 3/5
Total: 27/40
Comments: This fleet looks spikier than ten Chaos Land Raiders. I know spikes are cool and all, but man, I'm surprised the hulls aren't red with the blood of unwitting construction workers. Not bad, but aegis abuse on the larger ships detracts from them a bit.

New Terran Defense Force
* M123
--- Aesthetics: 5/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 5/10
--- Functionality: 3/5
--- Backstory: 1/5
Total: 20/40
Comments: Honestly I can't say the NTDF has much going for it. It's barely even classifiable as a fleet, and it can't even make up it's mind which ships are which class compared to their size.

Schkrin Extrasolar Navy
* Tsakara
--- Aesthetics: 5/10
--- Originality: 6/10
--- Creativity: 2/10
--- Functionality: 4/5
--- Backstory: 2/5
Total: 19/40
Comments: I honestly don't see what everyone else finds so good about the S.E.N. What I can say is that the piece repetition is something that should never, ever be done again. You should be able to make ships that look good without using a single piece - doing so gets kinda dull after a while. Other than that, the fleet seems fairly functional, and I haven't seen many ships which had almost all of their bulk behind the core.

Terran Defense Fleet
* Shenaldrac
--- Aesthetics: 2/10
--- Originality: 5/10
--- Creativity: 5/10
--- Functionality: 2/5
--- Backstory: 4/5
Total: 18/40
Comments: Way too much piece repetition and far, far too many guns and too much aegis. Not particularly aesthetically pleasing, and nothing amazingly new here as far as I can see. Backstory isn't that bad though.

BF-Pride class
* Zeron
--- Aesthetics: !/10
--- Originality: !/10
--- Creativity: !/10
--- Functionality: !/5
--- Backstory: !/5
Total: !!!!!/40
Comments: Disqualified from my judging list until further notice, as I cannot find a working download, and the download I did have didn't yield to 7zip, WinRAR, StuffIt or WinZip.

Downloads for the Bia.

http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... s/Bia4.shp

Renamed the Bia4 since the Bia3 is already on the server. As a note, the name of the ship is actually Bia. Bia3 was just a designation of the 3rd revision/variation of the Bia.
