First attempt at ship building C&C more than welcome.

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

First attempt at ship building C&C more than welcome.

Post by Asha-D »

Ok, so I've just discovered this game, a little late I know and I'm really enjoying the ship creator, I've got a question though, I can't seem to get the aegis deflectors to work, they tell me to assign the deflectors a target. If I understand correctly it involves building a section through the deflector but I cannot get it to work for the life of me. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

After all that confusion with the aegis deflectors I decided not to bother with them although I can use them now which is a bonus, I just felt perhaps deflectors were too much for a ship this size:

Is the beamer to much for a corvette class ship I hope it doesn't appear to be overloaded with weapons. Bare in mind that the front weapon mounts are static, the ship must be facing its target exactly to fire them.

It's a fairly nippy ship so it can keep its way out of an enemies guns but its pretty weak from the rear if something can get around the back.

What do you think?

Either highlight the desired section with your mouse and press T or right click the desired section and press "target with module"

As I have been told on numerous occasions, yet still occasionally fail to remember, F1 (help) will be your friend :D

Cheers my friend, sorted it already thanks to your help.

Not sure if you'll know this too, but when people display code for custom weapons, what order are the attributes in.

If I understand what you're asking correctly, then the easiest thing to do would just be to use the guide provided here: http://www.wyrdysm.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2984

You actually don't need to know the order for the stats at all. You can get the string for custom stats by selecting any section, doodad, weapon, or module (aside from the core), and then press 'r'. This will copy it to the clipboard and bring up a window to close.
You can use the strings by using the 'e' key in a similar manner. So, to grab a custom string from the forums here, and use it, select the whole string, copy it, click on the part in the shipmaker, and press 'e'.
It's a really nifty feature, and it's much faster for mass-modding a bunch of identical weapons than entering the values manually.

I think he wanted the order of the code so that he can edit the uneditable without fail... (such as bullet speed of +200)

good for your first ship although there are some minor nit pics.
I don't like the outline on the wings.(blue on white) Because the blue spices are a little in front of the white, in my opion this is bad. The guns on the other hand are fairly balanced in comparison to the size.(I would get the railguns to have a small arc instead of none at all, because in my case the ship just keeps turning until it had a perfect shot, then waits a second and shoots. But if the enemy parts is already out of the arc it will do this all over again.
And you should think about using some Point Denfence.
Overall a pretty good ship.

The white wings were intentionally set back a little for a 'drop shadow' kind of look but if it looks weak i'll remove it. What recommendations for point defence do you have for a ship this size.

The Rail guns do actually have a VERY small arc of 0.75. I'm not sure if thats enough though.

good luck!

I would go for a 2 degree arc but it depends on the turning of the ship itself. PD could be 2 flaks or particle guns. Just to stop some rockets or to gun down those pesky dementers or rockets. But not too much as because that would make it to hard to destroy.

EDIT: I just spotted a small grey area just behind the beamer. If you ever feel like overhauling the armament consider placing a modded railgun there because it has exactly that shape.

The armaments been changed now, as you'll see in the pic, I'd already added two particle guns for PD but your post just confirmed i'd done the right thing so thanks. The main gun was a little OP as it normally tore a hole in most ships with one blast so i've toned it down a little bit. I've added a few more sections and changed the colour scheme, i've yet to remove the 'drop shadow' on the wings but I wanted to see what you thought of it with a different colour scheme.

In my opion

I would (totally my opinion.) change the colours to grey/white and orange.(on the original one make all blue parts white and the white orange.)
The amament is changed and it is better as far as I can see.
The blue on orange is horrible, sorry, but it just doesn't look right.

Blue and orange *can* be done properly, but you'd have to use orange doodads and small sections while the bulk of your ship stays blue. At least that's how I'd do it.
