Well that was a little sad, first boss that I have been disappointed in. Point defence was such that with at least 5 ships firing massive amounts of projectile weapons at it, I think I saw about 10-20 shots get through in the entire battle. Would have been a lot more interesting if it had even a chance of being close.

While some of the measures may have been a bit drastic, the general idea was to encourage a fleet to be more diverse in its weapons/modules. Valid point. From the looks of it, it might be up to Venator alone to figure out Alpha's starting formation.
