That is why it is one of my favorite designs.bien4500 wrote:...the Destroyer looks almost... seaworthy when viewed in 3D
Very well done with these ships.

Alas I don't have Cataclysm, and as I found looking for Hw2 ship plans and vertical shots online I doubt whether I'd find any perfect shots of cataclysm ships. Also imo the mothership would look pretty crappy in BSF cos it's all vertical - it's just look like half a semicircle... unless I did it on its side, lol. I'm doing the carrier atm, and it's not symmetrical, so it's my experiment in doing a large ship without mirroring. so far so tedious...

Wow, that's a pretty... funky ship right there, lol. I thought Cataclysm had the same mothership? I guess not...
Anywho, update time!
Hiigaran Carrier:
http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... arrier.zip
Lacking in armour, this ship is primarily a production vessel, but is fast enough to accompany a strike force as a module repair/refit platform for strike craft. Capable of housing facilities for producing craft up to frigate size in addition to hyperspace, fire control or gravity well generators, the carrier can be fitted to fill a variety of roles. This example has a fighter bay, capable of limited repairs, and a hyperspace module. Jury-rigged into the frigate module slot is a flak cannon to supplement its already powerful point defence systems.
For my first major asymmetrical ship, I'm quite happy with how this turned out, though again there's a couple of messy bits that I just cannot work out, and the slopes in this ship just happen to be ones BSF really doesn't like to make, lol. Oh, and putting the white outline around the top slot is just far more effort than it is worth...
I'm having so much fun playing with the fleet I've made so far I'm going to consolidate all my Hiigaran ships into one easy to manage monthly loan - er, ship pack, once I've got the corvettes done. Then at some point I'll do the frigates.

Woot for a day of BSFing! Huh, I was more concerned about the stern than the runway, lol. Maybe I'll look back at that at some point. In the meantime, yummy mega update! For the second time today
Corvettes:
pulsar, basic and multigun
The three Hiigaran Corvettes are the basic, pulsar and multigun corvettes. Both the basic and multigun are intended to destroy fighters, with the latter being heavier but vastly better armed to the point where it is effective against other corvettes. The pulsar corvette is designed to hunt other corvettes, since it's slow rate of fire and high damage is waste against fighters. It is also powerful enough to engage frigates, but is ineffective against capital ships.
Frigates:
The three Hiigaran frigates are the Ion, Torpedo and Flak frigates. The Flak frigate is designed to erase large fighter masses quickly, though it is weak enough to still be vulnerable to targeted bomber strikes. The Torpedo frigate's cluster torpedoes are most effective against corvettes, who are too slow to out-run them, but lack the puch to be effective against heavy armour. The Ion frigate is the designated anti-capital ship weapon, though its lack of of supporting weaponry make it horrible vulnerable to strikecraft, and its weak armour offers little protection to heavy weapons. Best used en-mass to achieve any results.
I'm inclined to resolve the tail of the ion frigate some, but I'm gonna play with them first just to see how it is in game. Seeing as how that's the vast majority of the Hiigaran ships done, I think I'll release a whole pack of them well, that was fun. The pack will contain the latest versions of all the ships since I've tweaked them all some. I'll probably edit the first post n pic the fleet in game.
here's a link to the pack:

The Battlecruiser against two of my new Exeter Tactical Cruisers makes one epic battle.
Your weapons have quite the distance.

awesome job on the ships - i've been trying to do a Hiigaran Destroyer, but it can't compare to yours (mine's all blocky).
might I suggest that the missile launchers on the Torpedo Frigate and the Ion cannon on the Ion Frigate be hidden? In homeworld 2, they're both spinal-mounted and not visible unless you looked from the front on, and I think it would look better if they were the same way in BSF too (even though all you can see here is a top-down view).

If that was done the missile would end up becoming invisible.ddx420 wrote:awesome job on the ships - i've been trying to do a Hiigaran Destroyer, but it can't compare to yours (mine's all blocky).

spootknight: thanks, i didn't know that. I tried shrinking the ion cannon - it makes the beam about as thick as a normal mining beamSpoot Knight wrote:If that was done the missile would end up becoming invisible.ddx420 wrote:awesome job on the ships - i've been trying to do a Hiigaran Destroyer, but it can't compare to yours (mine's all blocky).

Wicky: great job on the ships anyways; have you considered doing any of the ships from any Homeworld 2 mods, like PDS or the Complex mod?
m'kay I'll make the Ion Frigate's cannon invisible, but like Spoot says the missile launchers have to stay. I would also like to revise the Ion frig's rear, but I don't want it to have too many sections - not so much for lag as for survivability and hull shock factors.
Most of the fleet plays really well against itself - flak frigates are however my biggest dissapointment. I tried almost all yesterday to get a decent effective flak effect from pulsars, but although i eventually had it looking pretty, it refused to actually do any damage to fighters If anyone can get a better flak effect than the shotgun pulsar spread they use now I would be most glad to see it - I guess a blaster shotgun would be a bit better, since blasters seem to do a little secondary damage sometimes and have a larger explosion, but really that's not much of an improvement.
