Hmm...I had some worries about that. I tried to go for some sort of a royal look, since it was part of the "Royal Star Line"...

@SWS: Am I still allowed to change it, or am I busted?

You get a max of two "swap outs", which is to say, you can change your entry two times. After that, that's it, you stick with what you posted. I am instituting this rule, because it's a pain in the goddamn ass to go around changing the "Index" post again and again.

Edit: CT, change your post to include a single picture of your ship, and a link to the download, please.

I suppose that such a rating will be scaled down for us small-ship builders?

And SWS, the ship I entered is actually called the Tristifal. Should've made that clearer.

For the Original Ships category:

The LCSS Transit Gloria

The Transit Gloria with full space superiority wing (not included in entry).

Backstory
*Backstory pending me typing it up.*

Design Notes
The ship is one of my larger ones, though probably much smaller than most of the entries you're going to see in the pageant. I believe that massive ships, whilst you might be able to achieve some interesting effects with them, lose something with the usual massive section repetition and the inability to actually use them ingame.
Note the extensive use of doodads to simulate energy links. I've tried this style before so I thought I'd really showcase it here. You can see it both in the engine couplings to the main hull, along the engine vents and also death-star-style powering the main weapons (where there is an aegis effect to top it off). For this reason the ship really needs to be fired up in BF to see the full effect. Parenting should ensure that in most cases blowing sections off leads to appropriate failure of energy links. I've also tried to experiment with low-lighting rather than highlighting for the most part, the only difference being the armour on the prow.
The general positioning of armour on the ship gives decent coverage in important areas without being the huge, costly, ungodly mess that would be a real version of many heavily armoured ships. The prow is especially important because it inevitably bears the brunt of most anti-capital ship fire, whilst protecting the engines is a priority also. Perhaps the most truly vulnerable sections of the ship are the communications array, and the fighters' mech-links.
Weaponry considerations include the aforementioned anti-ship main cannons (basically just modded blasters because I didn't like having beams as main cannons and these do pretty much what I wanted) and side-mounted scatter beams which are more suited to taking down other fighters. Another weapon is the pulse generator, which is a modded tach driver (you have to watch this one fire, it's awesome). It's designed for close-in defence and as a weapon of last resort. The nano-repair modules are for servicing fighters, but are just as often employed to bolster the armour of the carrier herself. Classic deflector shielding is present and works neatly with the armour design to protect the front more easily.
The red and white colourscheme was chosen to provide a sense of regality to the ship without using blue (which I believe never looks good in space).
Finally, the name Transit Gloria is from Latin, and (very) roughly translates as "Glory Fades". It is derived from the longer phrase sic transit gloria mundi, "thus passes the glory of the world", a form of memento mori. It represents the end of the golden age where battleships rule the stars, being increasingly dominated by the carrier.

Meh, I'll drop the Bahamut out. Gonna have to tweak a lot of stuff, maybe build a brand new ship.

Should've gotten constructive criticism earlier...... =X

I submit the Incendrius:

Certainly not pretty, but I think it's a good example of a functional-looking ship.

This will be your LAST original entry by the rules SWS just posted. Also note: while this will not influence my judgment of your work, I'm now officially trying to kill you with my mind.

Good day sir.

Technically it's not my last entry. I can have one more. The Bahamut was my first swap-out, and SWS said there's a maximum of two swaps. Depending on whether I finish a new ship in time or not, I might completely drop out.

I submit the Templar Knight for the Original ships. Download file:
http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... Knight.shp

Image
The Templar Knight class is the second medium battleship in the navy. Being a newer design then the Crusader, it wasn't crated to take it's place, but to rather support the fleet with close-range fire-power, that the Crusader lacked.
Shortly afther being completed, the two first Knight class battleships [named 'Roland' and 'Gavin'] have proved to be a realible and strong designs, defeating a Pagan Alliance raiding fleet in the Third Fall sector. Afther this, bouth joined the Secong Mixed Conclave Fleet, and along with other Templar, Teutonic, Joannite and Hospitaller ships took part in the battle for the Crying Maids sector. Allthrough Roland was heavy damaged, and his crew had to be evacuated, bouth ships were accounted for destroying at least four PA capital ships, and a dozen of smaller support ships, while damaging many more.
Afther the fierce, won battle bouth Knight class vessels were moved to dry dock - Roland for repairs, Gavin for rearming, as the beams installed as main weapons, afther three months of nonstop service were found to ofthen lack power needed to fire them. While it's sister ship still stayed in dock, Gavin joined the Second Templar Fleet, along with fresh Knight class battleships, and till this day is in service in the First Fall sector.
Roland, renamed to Arthur, is now part of the Mixed Exploration fleet, studying the unexplored Meeting Mary sector.
The example of this two ships, along with the achivents of other Knight class battleships, made this ship class a liked and welocomed sight in any fleet. Also, it has proved to be a rewarding ship even for beginner, unexpercised crews. Nowdays, it happens that the expercised personell from the Cruseder class ships requests either to be tranfered to Knights, as soon, even fresh recruits serving on the new battleships are able to fight as well as the Crusaders, which makes the older personell bit jelous.

Also, for the Fanships, I submit my X-wing:

If anyone needed a resemblance pic  :

What Talhydras meant, was that the next ship you submit will be your last entry, and we won't accept any more, so you better be sure that you're happy with it, before posting it.

XxunnecessarycrapbeforeandaftermynamexX: Exactly what SWS said. I do not recant my official declaration that I am trying to kill you with my mind, on account of already having taken some notes on the Bahamut.

Malahite: Is there any more backstory beyond those two sentences for your ship? I mean... it sounds like it's part of a greater whole, and it is not in my job description to go gallivanting around the forums digging it up. And I'd really hate to say "Well, it sounded like he had a backstory but never got around to writing it, 0/5".

Hell, I really wouldn't hate to say that. It'd warm the cockles of my evil little heart because I care about the category and like to see it get thoughtful effort. But I do think it's only fair to let you know that if you do have a greater backstory lurking somewhere out there, it deserves to get counted and I'm not going to find it.
