Where did you see that information about the Mothership2's speed, because I went through all of EndlessInfinity's posts and can't find any such comment?Stormcaller wrote:Isn't it worth noting that between the Deiterling and Endless' statement that the Mothership was faster than any ships posted so far (at that point at least), that this is not going to be a slow, hammer it into the ground ship? Because I'm really thinking that it won't.

First, don't forget that EndlessInfinity said we could position our ships starting positions relative to the Mothership, which should mean we can stagger them such that they arrive (more or less) in the order that would benefit us most.antisocialmunky wrote:I've ran alot of tests with the ships we have submitted right now against both Mr. Wizard's and MS1 and have noticed some interesting trends.
Turtle Arrives first. Jormangand, which has twice the acceleration of my Equinox usually is sitting right ontop of Turtle and Equinox is slightly behind, Sogeki is usually the first to start hammering with its main weapons.
...... ..... ..... ..... .....
Both ships seem to like sniping off the side section and then the deflectors on Citrus due to it not being able to tunr fast enough or cover itself well enough.
With regards to the Citrus, do you mean that its speed when trying to keep up to the Motherships turn rate is not great enough? With only one ship I can't be flanked and have to turn my nose towards another ship that has closed in, so I think that is what you mean by being not able to turn fast enough.
I see what you mean about the side sections getting hit and not being covered with the front shield well enough - good point, thanks.

Oh, and a little hint, because I don't have a video for you folks yet/if ever. This mothership isn't as fast as the first one, though it will still likely be faster than most of your ships.
Doh! I saw that before and it slipped my mind. Thanks!Stormcaller wrote:Main post of the tournament thread:Jafo wrote:Where did you see that information about the Mothership2's speed, because I went through all of EndlessInfinity's posts and can't find any such comment?

I didn't mean to use a cookie-cutter to make the ships. What I was trying to point out (not too well I guess) was that there is another way to attack the problem of the Mothership, with ships that are quick and avoid damage via that speed.antisocialmunky wrote:What you noted above is jsut one way to beat the mothership. A fleet of clones is boring. A combined arms approach is fun. For example, 1 Cuddle Fish and 7 Equinoxes > Both Mothership 1 and the Test Ones. But they don't work that well, a wide range of ships is fun and also quite effective. We are going to fight the other fleets too.
Even if we don't go that route, I don't think we have enough ships with Lancets on them, there is a reason that they are restricted to a maximum of two per ship - they are very powerful in de-toothing a Mother of a ship.

We should have about half our flet lancet armed. We could do the whole thing but all the tanks we have would waste them due to the beams bouncingo ff of friendly deflectors.
Also, I have a present for you.
Since you like your Citrus so much, I had to go and make another frigate(tm) Just to show you that real men don't need those wussie little rail guns.
Sidwes has nothing on this.

Wait, I need to check...antisocialmunky wrote:We should have about half our flet lancet armed. We could do the whole thing but all the tanks we have would waste them due to the beams bouncingo ff of friendly deflectors.
Do lancet beams bounce off your own ship's deflectors? 'Cause if they do, the Aphelion can't equip any due to those Aegis Deflectors.

Sweet! I just ran this against the real Mothership1, Mothership2 normal AI & Mothership2 Flanking AI - very impressive.antisocialmunky wrote:We should have about half our flet lancet armed. Yeah, smaller & quicker ships don't work well on their own, they normally require a pack-mentality (think wolves or velociraptors), so there would probably have to be several on a team to make it work.
Thanks for the wake-up slap

No problem, Jafo. It would be cool if you took your cricket ship farther, that thing's really entertaining. Though another frigate would be great too.
Sanders, Turtle isn't a horrible ship, but I don't really see it as working all that great with the rest of the fleet. I look forward to seeing your bee ship.

I tried this sort of thing before. The problem is that the radius has to be really small. Otherwise the mothership can just fly into it and blow off the chunks supporting the Aegis. I rather have .5 speed ships. I threw that suggestion up a while ago but its very hard to synchronize the Aegises right. You'd need atleast three ships.
This would be fun, but only if a couple guys on the team agree to do it. I'd be for it if a few people wanted to do it.
