Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!
The framework for a new, dreadnought class ship, alongside a Reeve, Seneschal, and Voivode for scale purposes. The actual armor plating will give it the curved silhouette that's typical for other ships in the fleet. I'm still debating whether to do something with the hole in the center of it; on the one hand it lends it a certain character, on the other, it's a hole in the center of the ship.
Technically the Dreadnought class should be roughly four times the size of the Battleship class, with the Titan being sixteen times as large, and the Leviathan class being more than 50x larger than the Voivode. I think I'm going to go a little smaller when I add the Titan and Leviathan classes. As it is, the Dreadnought already is nearly as wide as the Shipbuilder screen. With armor plate it'll probably hit the edges.
I'm trying to create the effect of three vertical layers to the ship, although I'm not sure that's working quite as intended. We'll see. I'm having the most trouble getting a good curve going, particularly an inside curve, which I'll need to do for the ring behind the flying bridge.
This is also a good chance to show off what I intend my ships to look like in the sandbox, but somehow it just never seems to quite work that way despite what I do with gradients and so on. I'm intending to finish up the lower decks first, then handle the ring, and I'm debating whether or not I should gamble on mirroring once I have the upper half of the ship done. It might cause me all kinds of headaches with depth.
I like you smaller ships use of the rounded weapons, they look better than the stock ship that currently mounts the Rorshach that I am forgetting the name. Please continue, your ships are great looking for the number of pieces they use.
Here's a group shot of all designs up to this point, for scale purposes. There's one that I haven't given much attention to, but it'll be mentioned later.
The Großherzog is the most massive ship that has been built yet. Only three of this class exist to date, and there is great skepticism at the need for more. At over four times as massive as a Voivode, the Großherzog class is capable of taking on an entire fleet itself and then returning to port under its own power afterwards, although not without needing repairs. As is normal, the rear facing of the ship is less heavily-gunned than the rest, but even there this dreadnought is capable of mustering the firepower of a Castellan. The only place that is truly vulnerable is the torus amidships, which is outside the firing arcs of most guns on the ship. This is still protected by an array of weaponry that can dismantle any ship small enough to fly into this dead zone.
Edit: Note that the above picture is not the ship at full armament- I only added half as many deflectors as it should possess. I know, I know, that seems excessive. But keep in mind the ship has 200 sections and 24 deflectors, with no section except the core exceeding 450hp. 'Structural' sections have only 200hp, and anything that can target them (like Tachyons) will be able to blow off the parented 450hp armored sections with ease. This is also the only ship where I varied from 'stock' weaponry: the three Shock Beams are set have a 0º firing arc, but a Damage of 10. They're otherwise standard.
The Cneaz is an older frigate that has been reclassified as a destroyer with the advancement of technology. The Cneaz's original claim to fame was remarkably powerful engines, however these came at the cost of reduced living space aboard the ship and limited operating time. With advancements in engine technology the Cneaz has lost its title, now merely one of many ships in the fleet capable of high speed maneuvers. The Cneaz's engines devote most of their output to thrust, which means that the weaponry and point defense were chosen for efficiency as much as anything else. Now the Cneaz operates in a support role, staying close to outposts, space stations, and colonies where the crew doesn't have to remain aboard for long stretches of time. When operating as part of a fleet, the Cneaz typically docks with larger ships, such as the Voivode or Spahbod, and rotates it crew onto the other vessel in order to relieve some of the cramped space.
Cneaz - 90pts
And just to make sure everyone knows, Cneaz is a Romanian title. It's the same naming scheme as the rest of the fleet.
Well, thats certainly a solid fleet. I like the idea with the ring in the middle of Großherzog, and the whole shape. My only gripe is that the color scheme could be more... engaging. I really like that last screenshot of Großherzog from shipmaker, those colors were better imo.

And maybe too heavy/too varied weaponry.
See, every single one of my ships has the same color scheme as the Großherzog, I've even gotten it written down. The shields, the armor, the exposed internals, different elevations, weaponry- it's all custom colors. But I can't get it to show up in the Sandbox. I've turned off the gradient, adjusted colors, done everything I can think of, I still get that same color when I drop it in the game, be it Allied, Enemy, or Player.
