The Warships of Starfall Enterprises

Post by TormakSaber »

I'm rather new at ship design in general, so... bear with me, heh.

Normal View: From left to right - Alien Drone Scouts, The Karsus Destroyer, Disciple Battleship, Terran Drone Scouts
Image

Firing Arcs:
Image

~

Drone Swarms - Ships, one for each faction, designed to be support/"Caster" type ships, both are Patrol Craft. The selling point is the various modules attached, offensive minded for the raging Aliens, and defensively minded for the cautious Terrans. They're designed to be small unmanned ship sets, somewhat like "Smart Demeters". Wuthout PD or Deflectors, they get wrecked very quickly, and due to the nature of the craft, destruction of the "Master" ship indelibly results in AI spazzing and self destruction of the smaller ships in order to prevent rogue AI drones from wreaking havoc.

Similarities:
Core HP (both main and "slave" ships): 150
Speed: 4
Turning: 2.5

Differences - Alien Swarm:
3 Alien Scout Blasters* - 5 damage, 10 round clip, 3 shots/second, 5 second reload, 550 range, 5 degree deviation. Middling at best. Not designed for raw combat.
1 Frosch Gun
1 Gosling Launcher
1 Lancet Blaster

Terran Swarm:
3 Terran Scout Blasters*: 5 damage, 10 round clip, 3 shots/second, 5 second reload, 550 range, 5 degree deviation. Again, not designed for real combat.
1 Flux Shield Capacitor
1 Nanomatrix (or a Platform Deployer/Demeter Pod Launcher. Nanomatrix may be a wee bit unbalanced)
1 Gravibeam

~~~
Karsus Destroyer - The Karsus Destroyer can be looked at as an experiment in evolution. It is human nature to want to make things that shoot only once... shoot lots of times. This time it's the Weasel Gun. Armed with a pair of guns dubbed "Rabid Weasels" in testing, this is a close range brawler designed to wreak havoc, specifically on ships that rely on heavy deflector technology. Coupled with a sole beamer as a back up weapon, and a pair of rear mounted deflectors designed to augment to barrier-like front of the ship, along with a pair of particle guns, the Karsus can assuredly hold its own in a brawl.
HP: 250
Speed: 2.5
Turning: 1
2 Deflectors
2 Particle Guns
3 Rabid Weasels* - 10 damage, 5 shot clip, 2 shots/second, 2 second reload, 400 range. (Don't mind the firing arc pic. All Rabid Weasels have a firing arc of 90 degrees. Also, I ran into a bug. Changing th damage of the Weasel Gun nullifies all damage, and prevents the split. Currently that means the weasels fire at full power, making it way too strong.)
EDIT: With th15's imput, the bugs in the experimental Weasel Guns have been ironed out. Damage increased to a flat 10 for a single split bullet, and the Beamer has been replaced by a 3rd weasel gun. Range increased slightly, reload time decresed now that the gun's damage works properly. Gun placement altered:
~~~

Disciple Broadside Battleship - The Disciple Broadside Battleship is a rather dated design in the Terran Fleet. "Old Ironsides", the nickname given it because of the many overlayering plates of armor. Despite its age, it sports a large number of standard issue Blaster Cannons, and has been retrofitted with a pair of rearmounted Railguns. The Mining Lasers, mounted on a claw shaped prow were originally designed to cut through asteroid fields, or shunt the rocks aside with the hull, in the early days of space exploration. These days, they're little more than old relics on the aging design. Unique to Old Ironsides is the Tri-Drone Launcher, a Demeter launcher designed to fire 3 drones simultaneously, within the same time period as a standard issue Launcher. A pair of Deflectors, added posthumously on the design with secondary "wing" struts often deemed ugly by the crews, and a pair of forward mounted Flak Cannons defend the design from onslaught. An old design, it still manages to bull its own on the battlefield, shining in situations where both broadsides can be brought to bear.

HP: 500 (Claw shaped protrusion bits in front also bear 500 HP each. Used to ram asteroids if the Lasers couldn't stop it.)
Speed: 1
Turning: .25
12 Blasters
2 Railguns
2 Mining Lasers
2 Deflectors
2 Flak Guns
1 Tri-Drone Launcher* - 3 round clip, 3 shots/second. Standard parameters otherwise.

~~~
Those are the ships. Criticism, etc is appreciated. I'm rather new to balance as well as design, so I'm not quite sure how they'd stack up. I know the Karsus is too strong, due to the Weasel Gun bug. I'm not sure how it would function if properly statted. The Disciple seems a standard battleship, a rather aged one, so not quite as strong, but you're hardpressed not to get something through in the array of bolts it fires. The Drone Swarms were mostly on a lark, I just liked the idea of "multiple ship" ships at the moment.
EDIT: after the Karsus rebalancing of the Weasel Guns, I think it sits just right for a short ranged destroyer. It's a rather unique ship, much like a short ranged version of the Tmolus. I'm rather fond of it.
I would recommend trying to use more pieces. Simplicity is nice, but it looks like the components of the swarm ships are going to fall apart at a moment's notice to me.
Some more ships from me. A pair of Alien ships, and then a Terran ship in the vein of the Moira X.
Ships in order from left to right: Alien Scout Craft, Hestia X, Alien Brawler, Standard Hestia (for size comparison)
Image
Firing Arcs:
Image
~
Alien Scout Ship: Only fleeting observations of these ships have been made so far. The best recorded sighting is of these ships jumping in and surrounding Admiral Cherenkov during Operation "Titan". They're fast, lightly armed, but capable of outputting a massive spray of lightly charged energy particles. Not dangerous alone, but if ignored, its ability to outflank and pepper the enemy with its Repeater Array cannot be ignored. Also noted is the ship's odd gating ability. It is believed to be a derivative of the "Dieterling Transport Module" found on the Destroyer class "Oenone Delta" vessel.
Core:
HP: 165
Speed: 4.75
Turning: 3
Accel: 0.3
Armament:
4 Alien Repeater Blasters
1 Alien Gate Device* - Renamed Dieterling, no stat changes.
~~~

Alien Brawler: First recorded encounter was as warp engine reinforcements during a battle in the outskirts of Zulu Sector, shortly after news spread of the destruction of Admiral Cherenkov's "Athena" Dreadnought during Operation "Slaughterhouse". Crews report the ship attempts to close in on the enemy before unleashing shotgun-like blasts from modified Pulsar Cannons, designed to catch the enemy in a hail of crossfire. Easily recognizeable by their unique star-like appearance, the Brawler is equipped with a set of PD Particle guns, though at the ranges the Brawler is most comfortable in, they are rarely useful except as small peppering devices. Attached is also one of two support modules: A Gosling Launcher modified toshort range only, or an Alien Frequency Jammer, similar to the "Frosch Gun" recently developed for the "Tmolus" class Terran Destroyer.

Core:
HP: 250
Speed: 2.5
Turning: 1.0
Accel: .07

Armament:
3 Pulsar Shotguns* - Pulsars modified to 2 second reload (may be changed to 2.5 or 3 seconds.), 5 damage (to compensate for short distance instead of long distance. Better accuracy.), 300 range.
1 Alien Frequency Jammer* - Renamed Frosch Gun, 300 range.
OR
1 Gosling Launcher* - 300 range, rest default.

~~~
Hestia X: The newly formed "ATRAD" (Alien Technology Research And Development) Division, responsible for the creation of the Moira X, has come up with a modified version of the staple "Hestia" Destroyer, mimicing Pirate King Nagaya's tendency to blend Alien and Terran/Pirate tech. Eschewing traditional Terran design almost in its entirely, the "Hestia X" mounts 2 pairs of Alien-semblant wings on a typical Terran Core/Wing Strut design. Aegis Deflectors are set to guard the front wing-set of the ship in the usual style observed by Alien Battleships and Dreadnoughts. Borrowing from the "Moira X" 's success, a pair of Photon Blasters are mounted on the Aegis defended wings, though Beam-style weapons have a tendency to shred them off, much like the "Moira X". Salvaged Alien tech from Operation Slaughterhouse facilitated the mounting of Sidewinder Particle Cannons on the outer wings where the standard design yields up Pulse Cannons. The resulting amalgam is slightly faster and more maneuverable than the typical "Hestia" Destroyer, trading in some slight amount of defensive power, much akin to the "hit hard, hit fast, die fast" method that the Aliens employ. In fact, the only notable bit of Terran tech on the thing is the lone Pulse Cannon mounted deep within on the core, as a last resort weapon should the Photons and Sidewinders be sheared off. All in all, ATRAD proclaims the new "Hestia X" Experimental Destroyer a success.
Core:
HP: 275
Speed: 2.8
Turning: 0.9
Accel: 0.08
Armament:
2 Sidewinders
2 Photon Cannons
1 Pulse Cannon
2 Aegis Deflectors
~~~

That's all of them for now. I've got a wicked big Alien battleship coming up, though it probably belongs more in the "Super-Battleship" category, or possibly the "Leviathan" category, the way it's going. Here's a sneak peek at it at the moment.

Prototype Alien Hive Mind "Mobile Command Center"
Image

Is that enough pieces yet? :D Also... I think I have way too much fun writing the stories behin each ship, heh. If you guys think I'm being too wordy, i'll cut it down to a simple spec-list sort of thing, brief and to the point. I rather enjoy trying to make my creations fit on an IC (In Character... IU or In Universe it would be here) level into the world.

I've been caught up DMing the serer I DM on in Neverwinter Nights lately, so I haven't had much time to finish it, or do many other ships, heh. The next batch is Pirate themed, whenever I get them up, anyways.

I really should finish off the Hivemind before Shipmaker 3.0 breaks compatibility and I need to start it over.

New additions to Nagaya's dastardly fleet, ready to wreak havoc on Fleet HQ's commanders, and innocent civilians everywhere!

From left to right, they are: Pirate Harasser, Pirate Hybrid Skirmisher, Pirate Fleet Commander, Pirate Warcruiser, and Pirate Nanite Converter.
Image

Firing Arcs:
Image

~~~
Pirate Harasser: This quick little flyer is designed to flit about and mess with the larger combatants by staying happily outside firing arcs, and whittling away with a trio of mining lasers, making pinpoint accurate strikes. Ideal for the commander who can micro precise kills, and get them out. Many a cargo unit has lost the couplings and been forced to flee cargoless when the mining lasers splice through and destroy a cargo hold.
Core:
HP: 150
Speed: 4.5
Turning: 2.75
Accel: .25
Armament:
3 Mining Lasers* (Range: 450, all other stats normal.)
~~~

Pirate Hybrid Skrimisher: Another Alien augmented Pirate ship, this one can even hang in a bit of battle due to the unique Tachyon Driver weapons,which act as offense and defense all in one. It's still quite fragile though. What sets it apart is the Gravitic Impeder placed on the back on a swivel mount, and, when in combination with the Driver's unique blocking abilities, can really just make this thing a bit of a pisser to take down. And you can be damn sure the Terrans know it, considering how much crews gripe when they see one of Nagaya's hybrids take to battle. Other than this, it's fairly typical hybrid fare, mounting a forward aiming platform of Scatterbeamers.

Core:
HP: 150
Speed: 4.5
Turning: 2.9
Accel: .15

Armament:
2 Scatterbeams
2 Tachyon Drivers
1 Gravitic Impeder

~~~
Pirate Nanite Converter: Pirates tend to not stay in one place for very long, understandably. And so, when a raid on a Civilian Fleet Dock took place, the Pirates wasted no time in converting the forge facility into a mobile platform. The Nanite Converter is designed be a mini-battleplatform on the go. Mounting a nanomatrix, and a single blaster cannon, it's often used as a refueling and repair station by pirates as they raid areas. They're not often dragged into battle, considering the fragility of civilian ships.
Core:
HP: 100
Speed: 1.75
Turning: .5
Accel: .06
Armament:
1 Nanite Converter (Renamed Nanomatrix, no stat changes)
1 Blaster
~~~

Pirate Warcruiser: When Nagaya began heavy attacks against Terran forces, he realized he needed "better". The Battle Barges were good, but by condensing their designs into a smaller profile, and working them into a design inspired by the "Peitho" class Battleship, he created a far more effective Warcruiser. Blasting barrages of blaster cannon and pulse cannon fire, the front profile of a Warcruiser is a ... bad place to be. Never the slouch, Nagaya also made sure that rearmounted Pulse Guns were placed on the back end, for rearguard protection. The Warcruiser is designed to be in the thick of it, and it does it well.

Core:
HP: 225
Speed: 2.25
Turning: .65
Accel: .05

Armament:
4 Blasters
1 Flak Cannon
2 Standard Pulse Cannons
2 Augmented Pulse Cannons (450 range, 360 targetting. No other changes.)
2 Deflectors

~~~
Pirate Fleet Commander: When Nagaya began working with the Aliens, it became ever clearer to him that he'd need to appoint Lieutenants to keep the Pirates cohesive while he was off making deals. These ships are the ones given to those Fleet Commanders that run sects of Nagaya's Pirates while he's away. The ships are hardy, capable of defending themselves from all angles (to varying degrees of success), and when brought to bear, are earmarked as some of the most dangerous combatants in the hotzone. Gatling Blasters and Pulse Cannons deliver withering barrages of fire. 4 Flak Cannons front mounted shear through return fire. A pair of Deflectors covers what the Flak can't. Rearmounted pulses and a blaster dissuade opponents from slicing the Deflector modules off from the rear. A pair of Demeter Drones add harassment fire and keep point defense busy. And the most powerful aspect (though easily avoided by the careful commander): A pair of aligned Railguns, designed to punch through the ablative plating favored by many Terran ships. All that's sure is: It took a LOT of raiding to piece this thing together. And Nagaya made sure they'd be just as hard to take apart.
Core:
HP: 450
Speed: 1
Turning: .30
Accel: .02
Armament:
6 Pulse Cannons
2 Gatling Blasters
2 Demeter Drones
2 Railguns
1 Blaster
4 Flak Cannons
2 Deflectors
~~~

And there you go. Pirate ships for Nagaya and co. I tried to stay true to what appeared to be the Pirate "style" (more blocky parts, less angle-y parts.), but ended up deviating on some bits (mostly the Harasser, and the "arms" of the Fleet Commander).

I've made a bunch of ships lately, but they're all just variants for the most part, of the canon ships (Exclusing some of them that I ttally redid, parts wise, but tried to keep the vein of the original ships: The Hestia, especially, I've made 4 or 5 differnet looking designs of it. It seems like such a base craft that the Terrans would modify it everywhich way.)

Mostly I'm just curious if people would care to see the variants I've made, heh, or if they would prefer only totally unique ships.

Also: I finished the Hive mind and the Slave Mind, I'll get those posted shortly.

Posting the Hive Mind (The big one in the center) and the Slave Minds (the 4 smaller stations surrounding the Hive Mind)...

Image

And Firing Arcs...

Image

~~~
Slave Mind: The Alien Slave Minds are manned, (barely) mobile combat stations designed to take defensive positions and defend Alien settlements. They're most often seen around an Alien Hive Mind, the main control center for Alien operations, though seeing them in a skirmish isn't uncommon either, as they're often used as "homes away from home". Equipped with Tachyon Cannons, and a Nanomatrix Forge, they are top priority to take out during Terran/Alien confrontations.
Core:
HP: 500
Speed: .25
Turning: .25
Accel: .50
Armament:
4 Tachyon Cannons
1 Nanomatrix
~~~

Alien Hive Mind: The Big One. Unseen by Terran eyes, this massive mothership has only been visited once by non-Aliens, by Nagaya on his diplomatic trips to speak to leaders. Gigantic in size, and just *barely* mobile, the Hive Mind floats through Alien controlled space, serving as docks and living quarters for almost every type of Alien ship. Covered in point defense arrays, Aegis Deflectors, and an incredible amount of weaponry, the Hive Mind is able to protect itself from attack on all 4 sides simultaneously, regardless of position. The Hive Mind is so large, that it actually generates its own artificial gravity field, in order to allow ease of living inside. This has a noticeable effect in combat, as well. Often accompanied by Slave Minds that serve to repair any damages the Hive Mind may take in battle, this behemoth has yet to be tested against Terran forces.

Core:
HP: 1000
Speed: .10
Turning: .10
Accel: .50

Armament:
8 Repeater Guns
8 Pulsar Guns
8 Scatter Beamers
8 Demeter Launchers
8 Sidewinders
4 Tachyon Cannons
12 Point Beams
16 Aegis Deflectors
1 Gravitic Impeder

I've made a lot of ships lately... and posted none of them... but I wanted to make this post for just the ship I'm proudest of myself for making. It's my first... well, second if you count the Hive Mind... but first major Terran Dreadnought. It took me way too long to finalize and make, and I have little doubt it's over the top powerwise, but that's due to the scale of the game. It's big, it's bad and I <3 it.

I present the Damascus Dreadnought, stationed here on a routine patrol through a Terran sector that was experiencing severe pirating issues. It no longer suffers from pirating issues. Fleet HQ has uploaded a radar link to a stationary shot of the Damascus Dreadnought below:
Image

~~~
Damascus: The Damascus is far from a recent develompment. Project God Sword was the codename for the project, and the only human eyes to ever see the schematics were the company that was contracted to build it. To date, the schematics are still kept under lock and key on Planet Earth, in a vault deep below ground. The Damascus Dreadnought rivals the ship recently seen and piloted by Nagaya in his rampage of Fleet HQ, and comes not a moment too soon to help the Terran War Effort. Requiring its own special docking facilities, the Damascus is for now limited to patrols in one sector at a time until fueling issues can be worked out to allow it to range farther out.
The trademark of the Damascus is the blade-like prow, with the noticeable feather-spread "crossguard" near the rear. Two sidearms mount a pair of specially created 5-chamber Railguns, and the "feather-spread" itself is home to a dizzying array of blasters. The prow, as well a the rear "Wings" are lined with Pulse Cannon arrays, modified to allow for longer ranged volleys. The center of the ship is home to a set of modules, including a Flux Projector, and a pair of Nanomatrices, allowing the Damascus to make its own repairs on the spot. A dizzying array of no less than *thirteen* Deflectors is stationed on a power core near the rear of the behemoth. Fighter bays along exterior of the main "rectangle" allow for drones to be unleashed upon the enemy. Cluster Rocket Packs mounted in an angle position to cover wider angles, provide widespread flak-fire into a cloud of targets. A foursome of rearmounted, specially designed and compacted Plasma Charges carry further than the average Plasma Torpedo before exploding, allowing the extra momentum to be transformed into a larger blast radius. A set of sixteen AI-coordinated Particle Guns is inset into the middle of the ship to allow for concentrated point defense. Finally, middle-mounted beamer arrays allow for offensive attacks, even when the Flux Projector is in use.
The Damascus has yet to meet its match in Terran Combat Simulations, proving itself capable of hadlng fleet size combat on its own, only suffering minor amounts of damage. Noted flaws in the design to may or may not be worked out due to the exorbitant cost (The Damascus was a multi-*billion* dollar project; only one is in existence, hence the use of heay simulations as opposed to real combat): Concentrated point defense does not allow for coverage as wide as it could be. Railgun wings are relatively exposed compared to the rest of the ship. Nanomatrices are effective but not wide-ranged enough to cover about half of the prow. Firepower is most heavily concentrated to the front-sides; enemies should be kept to just slightly left or right of the center of the prow.
~~~

Schematics:

Core:
HP: 1000
Speed: 0.50
Accel: 0.10
Turning: 0.15

Armament:
28 Pulse Guns*: Modified to 500 range, no other changes.
6 Cluster Rockets*: Missiles with 5 clip, 10 fire rate, 10 damage, 1000 range, 5 second reload, 90 deviation.
4 Plasma Charges*: Plasma Torps with 1000 range, 25 damage, 5 clip.
2 Heavy Railguns*: 50 damage, 1000 range, 10 fire rate, 5 clip, 10 second reload.
2 Quad Blasters
18 Blasters
6 Demeter Launchers
4 Beamers
6 Shock Beamers
4 Mining Beamers
16 Particle Guns
13 Deflectors
1 Flux Projector
2 Nanomatrices

And for the first time, a download! The Damascus Dreadnought

Oh yeah., I love the new Sandbox functions, love them to death.

Had I had foresight, I would have made it an action shot, showing the Damascus ripping apart the pirates... maybe I'll go do that now and change the picture, or simply add onto it.

The Damascus' black box has been returned to Fleet HQ, and a recording of the patrol through the Kuiper Belt sector has been acquired and looked over to assess combat capability. Heavy pirate resistance was encountered, but due to the Damascus' extreme firepower, along with the inability of the pirates to properly assess the danger they were in, the Damascus has come out victorious.

Preliminary engagements with Raiders and Gunships from all angles. A snapshot taken from the Black Box camera shows a successful Beamer/Railgun volley, though much of the Beamers were dissipated by the heavy amounts of meteors in the Kuiper Belt.

Image

A hasty retreat was beaten by the raiders and gunship, though it proved to be a decoy tactic. While giving chase to the fleeing gunships, a quintet of Priate Warcruisers jumped into the scene, flanking the Damascus and crippling it before it could react, by removing the Railgun batteries. One Warcruiser made the mistake of drifting into Cluster Rocket and Plasma Charge range. This snippet displays the might of the set of Plasma Charges; Fleet HQ points out to any potential crewmembers and escorts about how far the debris from the Warcruiser flies. Plasma Charges are not toys, and represent a serious danger on the battlefield.

Image

Despite the loss of the Railguns, the featherspread blasters, along with the Shock Beamers continue to pound the Warcruisers flitting along the flanks of the ship. Note the destructive power of the overcharged Shock Beamer seen here; the force of the blast has caused a rift implosion, decimating the reactor of the Warcruiser.

Image

The remaining Warcruisers, battered and beaten promptly engaged Warp Drives and fled the scene before they could be destroyed. Black Box recording has captured a picture of the Damascus after the confrontation. Notable damage has occured in the loss of the Railgun arrays (a noted design flaw, and not an unexpected loss. New mounts are already in creation.), and a slight dent in the forward hull of the ship. Other than that, no major damage is reported, and the Nanomatrices have already repaired the majority of it.

Image

Just before Warp Drive was engaged, the black box snapped a photo of the Damascus engaging the Trifecta Warp Drive, a new creation designed to help transport ships too large for traditional hyperdrive. Note the two smaller warps engaged near the rear of the ship that help power the overall warp drive covering the ship itself.

Image

The recording ends here, or at least, any recording of interest. The rest of the Black Box details a peaceful return to Terran Airspace and a successful docking in the God-Sword Docking Facility.[/img]
