Inter-Galactic Peace Keeping Operation (IPKO)

President and CEO of the S.I.U.S. (Seraphim Industries United Systems), Aradel Seraphim, today signed into law the formation of a group the "Inter-Galactic Peace Keeping Operation", or IPKO. Although currently the only member, he is encouraging other worlds and sovereign nations to join.

This is in response to the formation of the Galactic United Nations, a force which the SIUS has come to believe poses a threat to the stability of peace in the known worlds. IPKO will police the actions taken by other sovereign nations, quell conflicts, and generally keep the peace. Member worlds of IPKO will all encompassed in the same Mutual Benefits treaty, granting trading and docking rights to all members, and free passage through member worlds, as well as military cooperation, should it be found necessary.

One of the founding principles of IPKO is that of Sentient Rights. All sentients, organic and artificial, are granted the same rights, including freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and freedom of religion. Slavery is outlawed. Any sovereign nations wishing to join IPKO must meet these requirements.

Most other policies are open to vote, and for the time being, until there are enough member worlds for an election to be held, President Aradel Seraphim will also act as the temporary Chancellor of IPKO, deciding on which worlds are allowed entry, and having the power to Veto any proposed laws that recieve less than 2/3rds of all votes.

Sounds more organized and fair, and has a stronger military backup. You may not take us now, but I guess NE is going to observe this and might consider joining if UN ends up dead for some reason.

The VA is tempted to join, were it not for the fact that we do not believe in artificial intelligence rights...since everyone knows AI arn't really that intelligent.
Everything else is right down to our ally.

We found your treaty asking too much. While we understand and support the need for a police force, we do not like the idea of automaticly tying our nation to other members with such strict rules.

Trading rights, passage and military cooperation should all be agreed upon separately.
We would never give any other nation free passage tough our space without proper regulations - fixed flight paths, strict rules to follow.

The Ein Imperium welcomes this chance to secure the rights of all Sentients be they natural or artificial.

We enter into alliance with the SIUS and hope this will bring a lasting peace.

IPKO welcomes both the Ein Imperium and White Stars with open arms.

We are disappointed to hear the response from the VA. Sentient AI does exist, and under IPKO laws they have the same rights as any sentient organic being does. This is non-negotiable. Many of our warships possess sentient AI.

As to the other matters, negotiations and concessions could be made regarding limited trade and travel in your systems.

Military cooperation, however, is not optional. As a peace-keeping force, when the need arises that we must fight, our militaries must fight as a coordinated unit. As such, strategies and tactics must all be shared openly with other members. If someone attacks one of our member worlds, it is our obligation to defend it.

If you are unwilling to accept these, then perhaps IPKO is not the place for you.

We might be willing to join your efforts of peace provided two conditions are met:

1. Travel trought our system will be restricted and strictly monitored for all your ships.

2. VA ships will not participate in any actions regarding only the defense of AI. VA forces will be kept out of such matters completely - we will not deal with them in any way - positively or negatively.

A relatively young and low-ranking member of the Leader's Caste from the Coaxus Combine slowly stood and cleared it's throat, affecting a slight accent as it did it's best to speak in the common language of diplomats assembled.

"The Coaxusss Combine'sss represssentative to the IPKO would like to point out that keeping the peacssse by eradicating all who would oppossse it is a rather poor modussss operandi, and that Midgardia ssshould clarify the purpossse of it's messssage lessst it be taken in an incorrect manner by other membersss of the IPKO."

The representative bowed respectfully and sat back down.

We do not enforce the peace by crushing all who would oppose us, nor do we do so through idle threats. I have heard you are a race of violent war mongers, though I am reluctant to believe such rumors, I must ask... why is it that your worlds wish to join IPKO?"

You fail to impress us, midgradian representative.
While we do not force our view on you, any attempt to force yours on us will be met with deadly force.
You have yet to face any of our ships in battle..up until recently you didn't even know we existed. Our technology and firepower is more than sufficient to fend off any attack on our territory.

This should be interesting, I think I'm going to start documenting all this, really. But I'm lazy like that. Anyone not lazy like that? This will turn out to be quite interesting.

If there is war, then we shall stop it by destroying any ability to continue the fight, civilians do not count. But unless there is war, we shall let them be. Aggressors shall be destroyed, any counter attack into non-friendly is to be considered aggression. By that we mean you can retake your own territory, but any step into anybody else's territory which can not be explained as a mistake or invite (proof needed) shall be considered an attack and that ship, and its component fleet shall become a target.

We know of everyone, we choose to ignore those who do not make contact with other races. however, we do know what it is like to be on the receiving end of an unprovoked attack. And before you assume you have the technology to hold us off, consider this.... One of our smallest clan groupings had enough power to hold off 3 entire empires worth of ships attacking simultaneously, and then had the strength to hold the majority of the alien invasion off on their own.

People need to sit down and talk about stuff. Tech levels and power. This kind of bullshit (amongst other things, such as the aliens themselves) is what trashed the first "Cold" War and left it in a mess. It eventually just becomes an 'arms race' and in many cases, wars are practically impossible because ships are designed to wildly differing schemes and power levels.

Case in point; the NEN v Aralonia "war". The NEN got curbstomped - and that is an understatement. Aralonia's forces could have singlehandedly curbstomped the entire NEN and glassed their planets with relative ease from what I gather, even without the assistance of all those who bundled onto the bandwagon.

Also, I'm going to flat out suggest that we retcon the -entire- happenings of the 'Cold' War and pretend it never happened.

Stats of anyones ships don't interest me one bit. This response is in-charachter since this is roleplaying and all nations should be more or less equal.
If you do want to bring stats into this, I have a wankship too..one with 999999 damage beams. So don't even go there.
Sadly, ships in this RP are mostly unbalanced in relation to eachother, so let's keep this on a logical level and assume ships are balanced, shall we?
