Standard Template Construct Ships - Now with DOWNLOADS!

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Standard Template Construct Ships - Now with DOWNLOADS!

Post by Ulric Jorgensson »

Well all, I got the idea that it would save me time, and headaches, to make my ship skeletons in advance, so I began by throwing some pieces together, then a better idea struck me: Standardized Ship Skeleton Templates.

Each of these was to be a simple way for us to simply load up a single file and work from it to make nearly any sized ship. These skeletons are going to be the basis for the new low-tech fleet I'm currently working on, feel free to use them if you want! (if I can ever figure out how to load up a file and make the link work)

Firstly, the lowly Corvette. A simple, three piece skeleton with OODLES of possibilities.

Image

Next up, the Frigate, made with some modified parts, but nothing spectacular.

Image

After that, I came up with the Battlecrusier Skeleton, and I think this one works pretty well.

Image

Then, I made the first of the big ships, the Dreadnought Skeleton. This one actually took some doing to get everything to look right.

Image

After the Dreadnought came the Light Carrier. I figured I'd give it wide and deep sides, since Carriers mainly fight broadside style.

Image

This is the bigger brother to the Light Carrier, the Heavy Carrier, with more space for allocating flight decks.

Image

And then, to cap it off, the Capital Ship Skeleton. This beast took me an hour, just to get this done.

Image

So all, tell me what you think! Too constrictive? Or are these a good idea?

Another one I had come up with that I forgot to get a picture of was the Destroyer Skeleton I had come up with:

The battletech ships I made grew from a similiar structure, though mostly because I wanted a distinction between "Internal Structure" sections and "Armour" sections.

Nice :)

Also looks cool as they take damage, armour gets peeled away to reveal the bones of the ship underneath.
If you make it idiot proof, they'll just build a better idiot.

Yep I do that with all my ships as well. Go and try to chew apart one of my "Hammer of dawn" class dreadnoughts and you will see what I mean.

Behold the glory that is the Standard Template Construction Ship Skeletons! Four new ships made in under half an hour, and their all combat worthy and very effective. For low-tech ships.

(And yes, I do realize I'm re-using names)

First, the first ship off of the STC production lines: The Dagger Class Corvette. It's armed with 6 Missile launchers, 6 broadside mounted Blasters and a GatBlaster for it's prow weapon. A quick, effective ship for something of it's size.

Image

Then their's the Jitte Class Corvette, made to be a heavy attack craft and armed with a punishing arry of 7 prow-mounted blasters and 8 missile launchers, with two GatBlasters mounted in turrets. The Jittle, while well armed, is vulnerable to sustained attack, since it's main weaponry is short ranged.

Image

The next ship off the STC development lines is the Stiletto. Made for quick, slashing attacks against enemy vessels, the Stiletto can punish any un-suspecting opponent.

Image

And the last of the Corvettes, the Main Gauce. Armed to the teeth, the Main Gauce is heavily armed and armoured, carrying twin Gatblasters, 10 Blasters and a compliment of 10 missile launchers. Ten Flak Guns keep this ship safe from enemy attacks.

Image

So, what do you all think of my idea now?

Eh? Missiles and blasters? Short range?

I think not.

25% will have looked at their ceiling
The last 25% can now feel smug because everyone else has taken orders from a little sig box.

Yup! Look nice, although last 2 ships are projectile-proof.

Speaking is skeletons: Would be nice to see a ship looking like skeleton.

Glad your all liking these! I've had to re-evaluate what ships were what, and the sizes. So, there has been a few class changes. Everything has taken a step up, so those four Corvette's up there? Yeah, their now Frigates. I've made four Corvettes to show that, yes, I CAN make small ships!

First, the Caltrop. Designed to be a effective, high speed battler, the Caltrop is lightly armored, but effective.

Image

Next is the Ripsaw, made for fast, slashing attacks against enemies, the Ripsaw is armored and armed according to it's mission.

Image

After the Ripsaw comes the Jarmak Class Corvette. Armed with only two Teller Torpedo Launchers, it relies on it's partner's for covering fire while it unloads it deadly payload.

Image

Last is the Seax Class Corvette. Armed simply as a interceptor with twin Blasters and twin Missile launchers, with two flak cannons and 6 Particle Guns for defense, the Seax is hard to get rid of, and is used to give it's partners cover fire.

Image

Well, that's the Corvettes, now it's time for the Battlecrusiers!

First, the Machete Class Battlecrusier. Made for general brawling, the Machete lives up to it's name with brutal combat capabilities.

Image

Next is the Fransisca Class Battlecrusier. This one has been made to use it's Teller Torpedos and other weaponry to pound the enemy into scrap.

Image

After this is the Mattock Class Battlecrusier, though it should be called a Missilecarrier. 8 Teller Torpedo launchers backed up with 16 frontward facing Missile Launchers make the Mattock a hard ship to assault.

Image

Next is the unparalleled terror that is the Misericorde Class Battlecrusier. It's used as a light carrier.

Image

And Finally, there's the sickness that is the Flamberge Class Carrier. Be afraid if one of these ever sets it's sights on you.

If the flamberges' first volley phails, it's screwed for the cooldown period.

Not That Badly, all those Demeters should keep the enemy fairly busy.

That's a neat idea, I assume you stack the parts on top rather than build around the skeletons?

Both. I build off the skeleton, and then up off the parts. It works very well, and has streamlined a lot of my building problems.
