Interesting games: The series

Post by jwa8402 »

Watched some pretty interesting videos on Kinetic Void today. It's an Indie game that focuses on shipbuilding from the ground up using many sections. This is pretty much what I would envision BSF being like after a few more...well lets be honest, decades? I'm downloading the shipbuilder demo right now to see if it's legit, but seems to have some cool ideas behind it.

Maybe I'll update with some ships if I get it working.

Came across this game but can't play it yet for the same reason I can't play BSF  Looks great though for being an alpha. Don't know if any of you were ever into Minecraft but it is basically that plus a spaceship builder, almost a 3D Captain Forever in the way you gather pieces from enemies. The potential for building large ships looks good though! There is an early play-through here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgHgcttS39w , though they don't get very far. Looks like 3D ship building games are getting more and more common though!

Looks cool, the layout reminds me of a mixture of Spore and GOF2. I might check it out.

Impressive. It makes a Homeworld 2 feel also and finally a 3D shipmaker (Hey R0ni, i see you thinking about building Orentis!)

though they don't get very far. It isn't as realistic looking as Kinetic Void but it is free, and the full version upgrade for when it is released is only $3 right now. Looks like 3D ship building games are getting more and more common though!

Aww, I can't play cuz of my crap graphics card :(

Aha! it was just an out of date driver.
The game is quite good despite lag (although everything seems to lag on my computer).
If you like Minecraft and free roaming space games then you would probably enjoy this.

Made the beginnings of a ship in Starmade. It is an incredibly well designed game for an alpha. Don't have any lag to speak of. Wish they had more parts though.

A major part of the design philosophy for this ship is based on a strange part of the game architecture. The more of a block such as a gun or engine block you stack together, in a line, or certain patterns, the more powerful and efficient it becomes. So yes, the entire nose will be filled with cannons which turns a rather average laser into a gatling cannon. Sadly no lasers yet, at least not the offensive kind.

Would I also consider a shit ton of Salvage cannons and a salvage computer, just so you can mine some planets and earn credits really quickly.

I also suggest mining the stations for their valuable plexiglass.

In keeping with the thread topic:

KERBLE SPACE PROGRAM!!!
(will find vid later)

A ship building system not unlike Spore except all rocket pieces are realistic.
Basically you are like NASA with an unlimited budget :)

Nice ship Jwa, can you even get close enough to get in it without lagging out completely? :P

@Necrontyr1998 Yes! I still haven't gotten it but it looks really fun! I've watched several very good playthroughs but if you get the game or do one yourself let me know!

@BB Surprisingly little lag while building. My problem right now is that the view distance limit is so low(at least on my computer?)that I very often can't see where I am flying, or the whole length of the ship. That is less the ship though, because it is fairly small by most standards, than the alpha status of the game I think.

Cool, glad it's actually useable. You can change the view distance in options and stuff, though I don't know what the upper limit is. How much does it cost to spawn in? As for not being able to see, stick a cockpit on the nose and maybe a couple on the sidepods?

Yes! I have KSP and surprisingly (dispite it's scope) there is little lag. Having great fun, although I'm really bad at making anything substantial get into orbit.

Well worth the money in my opinion.
