The Kralas SpaceYard

Let's face it, the main attraction of BSF is building your own ships. Share them! If you need help, check the Shipmaker Info & Help forum a little ways down.

The Kralas SpaceYard

Post by Yuzazi »

Hey there, my name's Yuzazi and I recently just joined. Hope to have some fun with everybody and get a good looking fleet going...Anyway, I don't know if I should even make a thread for my...Showcase? But, Gotta start somewhere. If I'm doing something wrong, please, point it out to me. Anyway...

Onto the ships!

The Kralas are a faction that recently decided to improve their space fleets and produce a new line of classes.

First up...

The Kralas Warrior-class "Crusader" battleship

Image

Boasting a unique Kralas "Tri-Engine" system, this vessel can jump to warp in a matter of minutes. This vessel is seen in most blockades and major operations. Armed with A KRAL-EMPTORP launcher, 4 "shotflak" cannons to destroy incoming missles and debris, 2 slug machine guns, and two main autocannons. This is only the MK I battleship, but the Kralas are working quickly to improve it and it's weapons...

The Kralas "SnapJaw" Support Craft

Image

This small vessel is an agile support craft that is mostly used in distractions and clearing away a path for larger ships to get through in asteroid fields. Armed with two "Tri-shot" cannons and one Multi-rocket tube.

The Kralas "Barracuda" fighter

Image

An extremely fast fighter that swarms into an enemy fleet. Noted for it's twin blasters mounted on top. Can't come to a complete stop, though. Also, extremely weak.

The Kralas "Blade" AC-190

Image

This vessel is made for attacking at a long range. Made to replace the now outdated "SnakeEye" ABC, this craft is faster, stronger, and just plain better. Armed with one KRAL-TORP60 and two Ion machine guns. Pretty damn fast but still slow...Or something...

the Kralas "Dominant" frigate

Image

The Kralas "Dominant" frigate was made to replace the current "Barbarian" frigate. Armed with two high speed blaster cannons that fire two bolts at a time, two "Yenfarian" flak guns, and one KRAL-WARSHOT cannon.

Excuse my lack of not knowing how to turn parenting views off. I'll fix when I can.

Alright...

1) to remove the blocky glows, go to the options menu, click the color selector until it shows "ship glow" (I think) and set it to black.
2) For god's sake, go grab HorseMonster's detailed weapon set.
3) The ship isn't bad in and of itself, but it looks REALLY flat. go try some of the more detailed sprites, especially the DST, HMRealistic, and Kaelis' shiny sections.

Welcome to the forums!

Well, thank you for the advice.

Downloaded Horsemaster's pack, excellent stuff.

As for the ship being flat, I'm not so good at making a..."3D" ship. After all this is a 2D game. But, I'm sure I can look around for tips on that.

And thanks for the advice on the glows.

Putting up another set of ships. Excuse the lack of invisible thrusters, gotta go change the alpha on them.

for 3d, try shading a ship so the lowest sections are darker than the highest sections, which gives a sense of depth. also try using some better shaded sections such as horsemonsters or kaelis' shiny sections, they'll help a lot. also please don't use stock weapon sprites on sw ships, they look terrible

also, the key to shipbuilding is to not think of sections as separate parts. think of them as pieces that needed to be fitted together in the right way to make a good loking part, and then those parts need to be fitted together correctly to make a good looking ship

Lol, I'll fix the weapon sprites. Also, thanks for the depth tip.

Also, could you link me to the shiny set? Either of them will do since I can't find anything in search.

The first set of shinies are in the first post, the rest are on the second-to-last page.

Congrats! Youve been promoted to head designer for a car company! Now for your first design are you going to cover the car in tires? In axles? In bumpers? NO! Your going design something that uses the right parts for the right places.

Before someone eats you, please crop your screenshots.
An easy way of doing this (which IMO is much easier) is to open up your ship in the shipmaker and hit the "F9" key. Then you drag a box around whatever you want to take a picture of (kind of like selecting icons on your desktop). most members post screenshots of their ships in shipmaker first then they post in-game shots.

I'll certainly do that.

Any recommended size?

only show what you need to, i.e. the ship you want to show, (just make a box around the ship in shipmaker like I previously stated).

Alrighty, updated the OP.

Now has the Dominant. A vessel with depth that I tried my best at. Also, excuse my lack of not knowing how to turn off parenting views. I still suck at BSF and still need to get a feel of all the pretty little numbers and buttons.

Also, updated weapon sprites.

Press P. Or even better, hit F11 to go into Preview mode and take a screenshot from there.

Oh. Well thanks for the info, Arcalane. I'll update the Op in a bit.

Also, tried more on working with depth.

I present the Kralas "Arrow" fighter.

Small and fast. I like it.

I personally think that the front of the Arrow isn't as smooth and pointy as i would have imagined... and if you are going to use the Shiny pack, please make sure that you only combine them with the dst pack .Regardless, for someone new... these ships are fairly good... but nowhere near the best.
