TFN Antelope superdreadnought - Part of Task Force 75!!

Not to burst your bubble but pulse guns are absolutely pathetic in terms of damage compared to range for the most part, and beams/rails outrange them considerably. Blasters and missiles are the only weapons of note in that list and even then they're easily outranged by railguns save for missiles.Exethalion wrote:There's an awful lot of pulse gun, blaster and missile fire coming at them.

The pulse guns are there to overwhelm the smaller ships, namely frigates and such. Blasters, yes, cause some damage, but It's the missiles I tried to put emphasis there. All of the missile tubes have a range of 1000 or so, but perhaps I will need to increase this to compensate for the increasing amount of massively powerful beamers on other superships, of which I have none.
But that means upsetting balance when it comes to fighting smaller ships... so I'm stuck.

Beams also have additional power against smaller ships because there is no 'lead target' function in BF, allowing beams to just reach out and touch someone.
They also blow up tiny ships real nice-like.

Crap, so it is. Well, 2000 range it is then!Arcalane wrote:Which is the default range of missile launchers anyway, if one were to take a gander at the W&M Guide.Exethalion wrote:All of the missile tubes have a range of 1000 or so
By the way, is it possible to get missiles to fire out of the tubes and then curve towards the target, without the tubes themselves rotating towards the target?
And with the pulses, I was aiming that to compensate for slow rotation, the whole side of the ship would have a massive volley of them, with a small deviation, so any strafing ships should get caught in the fire. The same goes with the blasters. And cores should watch out for the rail guns.
No, I haven't fought the Ragnarok yet. I can if you want. But It'd be fairer if I put an ally vs an enemy, I think.
Set the launcher's firing arc to something ridiculously small (1 or 5 - hold shift to adjust firing arc increments by 1 degree at a time) and the shot deviation to whatever you fancy - but remember, the shot deviation is +/-, not an entire arc. A shot deviation of 45 = total scatter of 90.Exethalion wrote:By the way, is it possible to get missiles to fire out of the tubes and then curve towards the target, without the tubes themselves rotating towards the target?
I demonstrated such a fixed-launch/curve-missile pretty much as soon as I heard about the capability with a modified Executor;

Thanks derekiv and arcalane, I'll give it a whirl. I was aiming for an effect like the battlecruisers from HW2.
As for the ragnarok not being the 'flagship' if you will, well the Antelope certainly isn't mine either.
However, regardless of the fact that they haven't actually met, I think it is confirmed that the Antelope is no longer 'The next WCW killer', but instead part of this big fleet race.
So without further ado, welcome to the Task Force 75 thread!!!

Pah, what's with all this press about the Ragnarok? RAN Horatio Nelson's a similarly capable and similarly scary ship. With a giant two-page writeup.

In that case, consider my entry into this naval race formal as well. The HC-Tech fleet is comparable opponent to all the other forces in this thread, I've found out.
No, I haven't tested anything against the Antelope yet, but 3 pre-refit Verduns managed to make a mess out of the Horatio Nelson. It got a taste of its own medicine from my ships' 1200 range modified pulsars.
