A Blast From The Past - Talhydras's Druna Skas

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

I think this thread is for one of Talhydras's ships that Anna is remaking in TSwA style.

Promises to be epic.

Heard about it on IRC.

With the original colour scheme. I kinda like it but I know it's a little funky. A proper updated colour scheme is in the works presently. Here's some of what we've tried so far:

Can't say I'm fond of the purple and green version personally, but that third recolour could probably be decent if the grey was lightened up and the blue brought out a little more. Not too much though.

You also missed a few bits. Spars around the center and such. ;)

Talhydras is definitely one of the best shipbuilders and this was a spectacular ship back when he built it.

But...

Perhaps there is something wrong with me, but it doesn't blow me away the way it did back then. In fact, it doesn't blow me away at all; id even go as far as saying that im a bit sad how it turned out. Even that ship of yours you used in that retarded macro looks better to me.

Maybe its because it wasnt made with SW style in mind and looks flat and jumbled, or maybe my standards rose to ridiculous levels. Maybe it just needs some love. Maybe its just me, everyone else bows before this ship, and im just making a huge asshole out of myself here. I dunno, i just look at it and think that 'meh' would fit nicely to describe my feelings.

Or maybe the world is cruel and full of traps, there was a dream that you could only whisper, invading Iraq was a mistake, and bananas.

I think i need to lie down for a bit.

Now I need to get off my ass and turn off my "EVERYTHING MUST BE LOGICAL" brain and make some damn beautiful ships.

My own mind is a bit blown on two fronts here. Though I'm sure Talhydras could do better now, of course. He always comes back with something better when he picks the shipmaker back up after a while.

Right, since your reading comprehension seems to be impaired, let me put it in simple terms:

I am not sure if my judgement is correct, therefore im being careful.

Sounds simple enough?

Your not sure your judgment is correct, so you attack someone for contradicting your judgment? Well, I guess you are right about one thing, anyway.

Talhydras has is own ideas for colouring, he just went monochrome and shaded the shit out of it, and is planning to add doodad stripes. Further updates will be later, since he disappeared to do stuff.

Also, here's the original colour scheme with 10 times less "AHHH THOSE COLOURS ARE SO COLOURED".

Hmmm...

I think it's good, though the SM screenshot doesn't really do it justice. Normally, most ships have a lot of crisp-ness in SM-shots. This one doesn't because it has quite a few rotated sections to make its flowing hullform which leaves it a bit blurry in various places but not so much in others.

The in-game shot homogenizes the blur and looks far better.

I like the color schemes of the first and third recolor as is. The problem I see with it is the shading of the sections, specifically the lack thereof. While the sections and their arrangement imply depth/height differences, there's not enough shading to drive it home.

Talyhydras's shading does a much better job, though I see some areas for improvement in the 4x mirrored/repeated sections in the front which are repeated 3x around the sides. I don't know which section name that is, so that might be a little vague. Anyway, it's a little light on shading, not enough difference between them to imply a difference in height, which seems to be what it's attempting to convey with the way they're layered.

I like the detail on the rest of the shop though.

That toned down recolour is much nicer, yes.

PS: Miscoloured a section just below the thingy in the middle!

Ah, look at the craftmanship on that.

Have to say, the other sister ship Deathdealer is one of my all time favourites, maybe the all time favourite but this baby is pretty damn awesome. I love the design and the section work toward the aft.

It does look a little flat, but still, an excellent re-rendering of a brilliant ship.

Thanks to Anna.
Hats off to Talhydras.
