 Post subject: Help me make this game

I've been itching to create a game for awhile and I've finally caved. I'm making a sorta roguelike game where you command a single starship and roam the galaxy. The idea is that players will go out and explore the galaxy, destroy alien ships, mine asteroids, investigate anomalies and generally romp around space. Discovering stuff gives you Tech Points which you can beam back to Earth. When your ship is destroyed, you use the Tech Points you've accumulated to research new technologies and design a new ship for your next "life". The core gameplay is the player piloting the ship (the control scheme is similar to DarkSpace), issuing targets for weapons, activating modules strategically and giving commands that affect the state of your ship (think yelling "Brace for impact!" to reduce incoming damage).

If you can see this forum it's because I would like you guys to help me make this game. This is just a side project for me and I can't devote too much time to it so I'll need help putting together a lot of the assets for the game. I'm still writing this in GameMaker so I'll still be doing all the coding (also, I've gotten a lot better at coding in the past few years). Message me if you think I should give someone access to this forum.

Help Needed
I need sprites. I need a set of sprites to use for section and ship core sprites. I would like a large bank of sections that look good with one another. You guys know what sprites are out there way better than I do so if you guys could point me towards sprite sets that fit the bill, I'd really appreciate it.

In the future (read: when I get some kind of editor up) I'll need help making enemies. A big world is going to need a lot of enemies.

Currently, I'm loading ships from a JSON format. I think it will be feasible to create a .shp -> JSON converter of some kind so that we can use the existing ship maker to make enemy ships. If anyone is able and willing to help with this task, I'd greatly appreciate it. Yell and me and I'll tell you all about the format.

I'll obviously chip in with sound effects and music, but I'm more than willing to help with other stuff too.

This is a pretty rad christmas present for the BSF community, to be honest.

Comrade th15, it's good to see you in action again. I myself have tried fruitlessly over the past few months to like-just-make-game but it never actually got anywhere because ADD. Regardless, I hope I can be of help.

I can sprite sections and GUI elements, write blurbs, and code GameMaker if needed (you've seen my funkyfresh BSF extensions).

I most need section sprites right now. The sooner we can pick a style and have some stuff going the better. It's actually really important because it'll hold up a lot of stuff: I need section sprites so I/we can design ships, I need ships to be designed so I can balance weapons, and I need both ships and weapons to be balanced before the game will be any fun to play.

If you can get kaelis's or the other spriters attention, you wouldn't have to worry much about sprites.

So the mechanics of the game is similar to starsector, only a lot slower

Heh. Will you be adding all the weapons seen in the campaign of BSF? Weasels, beamers, plasma thingies...
