Added a bunch of lore stuff. Gonna make some more ships now, maybe.

EDIT: Changed the flag. Credit goes to STARSTRUCK for the new one.

Hey man, ultra-violence is an important thing to be able to spot. I bet you wish you could see into the ultra-violent spectrum.

Added a new ship, I'll post it here too, so people don't need to check the OP to see it:
Vermillion Vengeance-class Battleship
Image
Size: 147.96 -> 149.26
Hull: 950
Speed: 0.8
Turning: 0.45
Accel: 0.02
AI: Normal
Armament:
6x Twin Heavy Red Lasers
2x Twin Super-Heavy Red Lasers
10x Twin Medium Red Lasers
2x Unique Ultra-Heavy Red Lasers
Would love any feedback/opinions.

So. . . it vomits red lasers onto its opponents face? I calculate 38 individual projectiles per volley. Isn't that a little CPU heavy?
Sadly, I don't see any PD.

1) That's generally the MO of red lasers. Also, both Anna and I have fairly robust computers. Besides, most of the point of things here isn't simulating the battles, it's the political stuff.

2) Probably because PD was never planned for, and people have only started throwing it in to counter torpedoes/etc. - there are no actual balance rules for PD.

Nothing I can fault the appearance on, I like the use of subtle glows for highlights on the wings.

38 projectiles is nowhere near taxing on the cpu, there are more than that flying about in the stock campaign half the time. PD was never really a part of Laser Wars anyway, as after all it is about lasers.

Edit, ninja'd by Arcalane

Eh, not really.

As the others have said, WFTU is based on Laser Wars, so the focus is more on lasers than on anything else (or it should be), thus I don't really feel I need a lot of PD in my faction. My Command Carrier has some, and I may make another dedicated ship with PD, but the Ariadnians are more about offence than defence anyway.

I use tiny lasers as PD. It seems to work pretty well. Besides, PD does nothing against anything that isn't A) Kinetic or B) explosive.
And Anna, that ship reminds me that you are a god among men.

What is the ship's total DPS? I will be compiling all of the HG ships into a spreadsheet soon. I wonder where the Seraph stands. Yes, I know the value will be higher because of red lasers.

I'm not sure. DPS is a useless measure in this game really. Whether or not you hit is a significant factor, after all, and also the armor rules in the meta_2 build would literally cut the DPS of my ship in half, since most of its guns are very low damage-per-shot. The DPS of all the guns except my unique Ultraheavy red lasers is on the Laser Wars spreadsheet, though, so it shouldn't be difficult to roughly calculate it yourself, if you care that much.
Doogie12 wrote:And Anna, that ship reminds me that you are a god among men.
Man, you're gonna make me blush. But I'm glad to see it was well received. Thanks. :D

EDIT:
I had a bit, and it was easy enough to do, so I worked out the DPS. Just keep in mind that the DPS is only accurate if all its guns are locked onto a target and it gets into range of that target and it manages to hit with all of its bullets. :P
6x Twin Heavy Red Lasers = 368.4 dps
2x Twin Super-Heavy Red Lasers = 137.16 dps
10x Twin Medium Red Lasers = 461.6 dps
2x Unique Ultra-Heavy Red Lasers = 114.28 dps
1081.44 dps Total

That's also not counting armour reducing damage dealt.

Fun times.

Two new ships added to the main post. I also added short descriptions to all the ships. I'll post the new ships here.
Fuschia Fury-class Frigate
Image
Size: 71.51 -> 73.11
Hull: 210
Speed: 3.6
Turning: 1.35
Accel: 0.10
AI: Flanker
Armament:
5x Light Red Lasers
3x Twin Light Red Lasers
Description: Essentially a Ruby Razor scaled up to frigate size, this vessel specialises in harassment, boasting a high speed for its size, but weak armour even for an Ariadnian vessel.
Triumvirate 01 - COURAGE
Image
Size: 339.28
Hull: 2100
Speed: 0.61
Turning: 0.25
Accel: 0.01
AI: Normal
Armament:
8x Twin Heavy Red Lasers
18x Light Red Lasers
Description: The Triumvirate are not warships. They are the Gods and Leaders of the Ariadne Industrial Machina, their word both law and scripture. They bear enough fire-power to defend themselves until assistance arrives, if need requires, but their primary purpose is to lead their people. Triumvirate 01 is named after one of the three Virtues of the Cretians, Courage, and it represents this virtue by being the most heavily armed of the Triumvirate, on a handful of occasions rushing to the defence of Ariadnian Stations under attack, despite the protests and pleas of those who follow and worship him.
