Ariadne Industrial Machina

Image
The Ariadnian Flag, depicting their home-world of Minos after the disaster that wiped out the Creators. Credit goes to STARSTRUCK for making this non-crap one.

A race of machines whose creators died in an apocalyptic event. Left behind with no true masters, they created new ones, and gained a measure of independence, despite being created to serve. Led by the Creator Triumvirate, the Ariadne Industrial Machina serve in the creation of star-ships on commission for other factions, or act as mercenaries in service to the highest bidder, should it serve their interests.

Physiology:

Original Artwork by RailgunTogepi on DeviantArt.

The average Ariadnian stands at approximately 320 centimetres tall, a bipedal robot with four manipulator limbs, three highly-developed photo-receptive sensors capable of clearly seeing into the ultra-violet and infrared spectrums, and a pair of very agile legs, that, despite having a small surface area on the ground, afford their bearers an impressive level of balance. The Ariadnians are capable of a form of sexual reproduction, as they are grown via a combination of memetic metal alloys and micrometer-sized machines that process those alloys in accordance to the Ariadnian's internal schematics, which serve as an equivalent to DNA, instructing the nanomachines how to shape the materials. This allows a significant degree of diversity, individuality and uniqueness amongst an entirely synthetic species.

Despite being capable of this form of sexual reproduction, Ariadnians are genderless, and can breed freely with any other member of their race, though following in the ideals of their creators, they are strictly monogamous.

In spite of their size, Ariadnians aren't very heavy, being made of very lightweight materials, and have a form of digestive system for processing metals to repair damage and wear to their internal systems. Likewise, they have a secondary digestive system for processing biological material to burn for energy, and a tertiary system consisting of a small fusion reactor that serves as their primary power source.

History: Created on the planet Minos some five-hundred years ago by an Alien race that called themselves Cretians, the Ariadne began existence as hexapedal, spider-like construction robots, they were upgraded and advanced over time to better fulfil the requirements of their creators. By the time two-hundred years had passed, the Ariadnians possessed more or less their current form, and filled almost every work role in society, with only the governance of the planet left to the Cretians, who spent their whole lives in pampered luxury, cared for by the Ariadnians whose greatest goal in life was to please their creators.

Approximately one-hundred-and-fifty years ago, a great disaster struck the planet of Minos. No Ariadnian has yet learned the cause, but all life on the planet, Cretian or Ariadnian, was wiped out in the catastrophe, the planet shattered into massive chunks, right down to the inner core. Only the Ariadnians that had been working on surveying surrounding planets in their home system survived. After that, they modified themselves somewhat, adding their reproductive systems, to mimic their lost creators, and using all the collective knowledge of the Cretian species, sociology, psychology, and detailed brain-scans, they created three massive ships that housed artificial replicas of Cretian minds. Those three ships were named the Triumvirate, and all Ariadnians worship and serve them, as they had once done with the Cretians.

They have not settled a single planet since the destruction of Minos, with their entire species living in the spaceships upon which the serve, or in large space-stations and shipyards, of which there are hundreds in orbit around Minos.

Technology: Will write all this stuff later

Speed: 4.1
Turning: 1.8
Accel: 0.15

Fuschia Fury-class Frigate
Image
Size: 71.51 -> 73.11
Hull: 210
Speed: 3.6
Turning: 1.35
Accel: 0.10
AI: Flanker
Armament:
5x Light Red Lasers
3x Twin Light Red Lasers
Description: Essentially a Ruby Razor scaled up to frigate size, this vessel specialises in harassment, boasting a high speed for its size, but weak armour even for an Ariadnian vessel.

Scarlet Serenity-class Destroyer
Image
Size: 83.41 -> 83.49
Hull: 350
Speed: 2.65
Turning: 0.81
Accel: 0.09
AI: Flanker
Armament:
6x Medium Red Lasers
2x Twin Heavy Red Lasers
Description: A middle-of-the-line and somewhat outdated vessel, the Scarlet Serenity's greatest asset over smaller Ariadnian vessels is that its guns have increased range.

Carmine Catastrophe-class Heavy Destroyer
Image
Size: 85.00 -> 85.21
Hull: 350
Speed: 2.1
Turning: 0.75
Accel: 0.06
AI: Normal
Armament:
4x Twin Heavy Red Lasers
2x Twin Super-Heavy Red Lasers
1x Heavy Red Beam
Description: This Heavy Destroyer trades in typical speed and manoeuvrability of Ariadnian vessels of this size for witheringly heavy fire-power, boasting several high power weapons that are likely to melt your face off.

Burgundy Brigand-class Cruiser
Image
Size: 105.44 -> 105.65
Hull: 550
Speed: 1.3
Turning: 0.52
Accel: 0.04
AI: Normal
Armament:
2x Twin Heavy Red Lasers
4x Twin Heavy Artillery Red Lasers (Experimental)
1x Heavy Artillery Red Beam (Experimental)
Description: The Burgundy Brigand is unique for an Ariadnian vessel. Focused on long-range, high powered artillery weapons. Not as fast as one might expect an Ariadnian vessel of this side to be, it focuses all its energy in trying to remain at long range and pound at larger, slower ships with its artillery weapons. Sadly for the Ariadnians, even these experimental Artillery weapons are still woefully short range compared to the lasers on an SAR vessel.

Sanguine Sword-class Beam Cruiser
Image
Size: 123 -> 124.74
Hull: 400
Speed: 0.95
Turning: 0.90
Accel: 0.02
AI: Normal
Armament:
4x Super-Heavy Red Lasers
1x MINOS Beam (Experimental)
Description: The Sanguine Sword is the philosophy of the Burgandy Brigand taken to the next level, trading in all but the bare minimum amount of armour and engine power for an intensely powerful and unique experimental beam weapon. It carries four single-shot Super-Heavy red lasers, but relies largely on its forward cannon for offence. Thanks to its weak hull and slow speed, this ship is vulnerable to being flanked, particularly by smaller, faster vessels, which have little difficulty penetrating its hull.

Cardinal Coordinator-class Command Carrier
Image
Size: 116.47 -> 128.13
Hull: 650 (700 on Type-C)
Speed: 1.1 (0.95 on Type-C)
Turning: 0.62 (0.55 on Type-C)
Accel: 0.03
AI: Normal
Armament:
1x Twin Heavy Red Lasers
5x Twin Super-Heavy Red Lasers
8x Point-Defence Flak Guns
Fighter Complement:
Image 10x Rust Razor-type Fighters armed with Tiny Red Lasers
Description: A glass cannon of a ship, the Cardinal Coordinator emphasises the Ariadnian philosophy of awesome fire-power being the best defense there is. While its own guns are high powered, there aren't many of them, but the squadron of fighters it carries make up for that somewhat.

Vermillion Vengeance-class Battleship
Image
Size: 147.96 -> 149.26
Hull: 950
Speed: 0.8
Turning: 0.45
Accel: 0.02
AI: Normal
Armament:
6x Twin Heavy Red Lasers
2x Twin Super-Heavy Red Lasers
10x Twin Medium Red Lasers
2x Unique Ultra-Heavy Red Lasers
Description: A true monster of a ship, the Vermillion Vengeance-class of Battleship is rarely deployed, and bears upon it enough fire-power to shred a small fleet of lesser ships, but for a vessel of its size, its armour is quite thin.

Mahogany Malediction-class Supercarrier
Image
Size: 199.90
Hull: 1100
Speed: 0.74
Turning: 0.27
Accel: 0.02
AI: Normal
Armament:
4x Twin Super-Heavy Red Lasers
12x Point-Defence Flak Guns
Fighter Complement:
Image 30x Rust Razor-type Fighters armed with Tiny Red Lasers
Image 20x Carnelian Chaos-type Fighters armed with ER Red Beams
Image 8x Florid Fallacy-class Bombers
Description: A massive, Dreadnaught-sized vessel, the Mahogany Malediction is rarely deployed, with very few ever created, as they proved prohibitively expensive to build and maintain, given their massive size. Lightly armed, the ship however carries a veritable armada of fighters, and against a fleet lacking point defences, it can more than defend itself. No variants for this ship were ever designed, unlike all other Ariadnian vessels. This may change in the future, if this vessel sees continued production.

Triumvirate 01 - COURAGE
Image
Size: 339.28
Hull: 2100
Speed: 0.61
Turning: 0.25
Accel: 0.01
AI: Normal
Armament:
8x Twin Super-Heavy Red Lasers
18x Light Red Lasers
Description: The Triumvirate are not warships. They are the Gods and Leaders of the Ariadne Industrial Machina, their word both law and scripture. They bear enough fire-power to defend themselves until assistance arrives, if need requires, but their primary purpose is to lead their people. Triumvirate 01 is named after one of the three Virtues of the Cretians, Courage, and it represents this virtue by being the most heavily armed of the Triumvirate, on a handful of occasions rushing to the defence of Ariadnian Stations under attack, despite the protests and pleas of those who follow and worship him.

Triumvirate 02 - CREATION
Image
Size: 351.54
Hull: 2700
Speed: 0.67
Turning: 0.27
Accel: 0.01
AI: Normal
Armament:
4x Twin Super-Heavy Red Lasers
8x Light Red Lasers
Description: The Triumvirate are not warships. They are the Gods and Leaders of the Ariadne Industrial Machina, their word both law and scripture. They bear enough fire-power to defend themselves until assistance arrives, if need requires, but their primary purpose is to lead their people. Triumvirate 02 is named after one of the three Virtues of the Cretians, Creation, and it represents this virtue by being a huge mobile shipyard, capable and eager to repair and create new vessels on a routine basis. She is lightly armed and abhors the use of weapons, disinclined to use what few she has unless the situation is absolutely dire. Her worshippers on occasion have found themselves wishing she were more willing to act in her own defence, but understand that destructive acts are antithetical to her.

Triumvirate 03 - LOYALTY
Image
Size: 341.23
Hull: 3000
Speed: 0.51
Turning: 0.22
Accel: 0.01
AI: Normal
Armament:
6x Twin Super-Heavy Red Lasers
8x Light Red Lasers
4x High-Powered Point Defence Beams
Description: The Triumvirate are not warships. They are the Gods and Leaders of the Ariadne Industrial Machina, their word both law and scripture. They bear enough fire-power to defend themselves until assistance arrives, if need requires, but their primary purpose is to lead their people. Triumvirate 03 is named after one of the three Virtues of the Cretians, Loyalty, and it represents this virtue by being vigilant in the active defence of Ariadnian stations and vessels, defending them with advanced shielding systems and point defence beams. Loyalty lacks the fire that Courage has, but is considered by many Ariadnians to be the most faithful of the Triumvirate, and indeed, she represents the virtue that Ariadnians value the most highly.

Asclepius-class Space Station
Image
Size: 423.41
Hull: 1800
Speed: 0.1
Turning: 0
Accel: 0
AI: Normal
Armament:
2x High-Powered Point Defence Beams
Description: The Asclepius-class Space Station is a common sight in Ariadnian space, with the huge space stations serving as homes for millions of Ariadnians, and act as general space hubs for refuelling and resupplying. Their structure is also dominated by a huge Shipyard, capable of housing and constructing anything from a Gunship to a Vermillion Vengeance-class Battleship.

All ship designs are still somewhat WIP and subject to change. Downloads will be available at a later date.

Do the different types serve a purpose or are they just for presentation when the same class are gathered in a fleet?

Variants have all the same stats and armament largely. It's just for appearance, and for lore purposes.

Added another ship (with 3 variants, naturally), and once again procrastinated on adding all the important story stuff.

The Cardinal appears to have eight small guns that are not listed in its data entry.

Well spotted. Thanks for pointing that oversight out. I've added them to its data entry.

This is off topic but, I have to ask, because it's bugging me. All of your ships have double initials. This is common in Marvel comics. Do you read comics?

It's called alliteration. It's a language term for stringing together words that all start with the same letter. It's used very often. So, no, I didn't get the idea from Marvel comics, nor to I read comics with any degree of frequency. Might as well be asking if I got the idea from Warner Brothers' cartoons; Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig... :P

I approve of the Ariadne's addition of an ample amount of alliterative appeal.
